DiCello: One last look at a lost evening

by Dejan Kovacevic • Photos • DiCello, Pirates

DEJAN
SAN DIEGO — Our Dave DiCello kept about as busy as Jake Arrieta while the Pirates were falling to the Cubs in the National League Wild Card last week.

DiCello's point of viewBut unlike that outcome, this one shows very well.

DiCello: Football, fireworks and poof

by Dejan Kovacevic • Photos • DiCello, Steelers

DEJAN
Our Dave DiCello climbed high above the city for these shots of Heinz Field fireworks just before the Steelers-Ravens game last Thursday.

DiCello: High into the night sky

by Dejan Kovacevic • Photos • DiCello

DEJAN
ST. LOUIS — Our Dave DiCello rises above his peers in more ways than one, judging by all the flights he’s been taking over our city of late. This week’s gallery comes courtesy of a helicopter night ride taken last week.

DiCello: We’re from the town …

by Dejan Kovacevic • Photos • DiCello, Steelers

DEJAN
Our Dave DiCello took many photographs of the Steelers’ 83rd home opener Sunday. You saw his football work on our various files from the game, but he also — as ever — shot pretty much everything around him, as well.

DiCello's point of viewI can’t tell you how happy and proud we are to have this extraordinary talent.

DiCello: Commissioner Gordon gone wild

by Dejan Kovacevic • Photos • DiCello, Pirates

DEJAN
Over the weekend, A.J. Burnett asked me if anyone had taken any quality shots of the Downtown skyline last Thursday when his return to the mound was greeted by laser-powered Bat-signals, courtesy of Mayor Bill Peduto.

DiCello's point of viewI’m happy to say that the answer, for A.J. and his family, is a resounding yes, courtesy of our very own Dave DiCello.

DiCello: World War II warship on our Shore

by Dejan Kovacevic • Photos • DiCello

DEJAN
ST. LOUIS — The city where I’m writing this is famous for steamboats along the Mississippi, but the city where I live is probably better known for having provided the steel to build … well, half the planet at one point. And that includes warships.

DiCello's point of viewNow through Tuesday, there’s an LST World War II transport ship docked near Heinz Field. Well worth your time … and a few snaps from our Dave DiCello:.

DiCello: Just call it calendar journalism

by Dejan Kovacevic • Photos • DiCello

DEJAN
In the calendar business, it’s always next year. Because hey, who wants to buy a 2015 calender once the year’s already begun?

DiCello's point of viewOur Dave DiCello is already delivering his 2016 Pittsburgh calendar, for example, and he’s shared with us a few shots for this week’s gallery.

DiCello: World’s ‘only city with an entrance’

by Dejan Kovacevic • Photos • DiCello

DEJAN
NEW YORK — For this week’s gallery, befitting my own setting at the time this is written, we’ll quote the New York Times’ legendary line about Pittsburgh that it’s the world’s ‘only city with an entrance.’

Sometimes it takes an outsider to appreciate what you’ve got.

Except, of course, with our Dave DiCello. Click or tap any image to enlarge:

DiCello: A storm this way was a-brewin’

by Dejan Kovacevic • Photos • DiCello

By Dejan Kovacevic
Happy Monday!

The camera of our Dave DiCello knows no fear, least of all some silly storm like the one that assaulted our city — the poor BNY Mellon skyscraper, in particular — last week. No, our man saw this is as opportunity.

Here’s this week’s gallery. As always, click or tap the image to enlarge.

Good morning, and happy Monday!

The camera of our Dave DiCello gets around by plane, copter and even drone to take some of his trademark shots of our city. Here’s a handful of recent ones he selected for this week’s gallery and, as always, click or tap the image to enlarge.

DiCello: A photographer who gets the point

by Dejan Kovacevic • Photos • DiCello, Steelers

By Dejan Kovacevic
LATROBE, Pa. —  While new beat man Neal Coolong and I lounged in the shade at the Steelers’ first practice Sunday — OK, we got around a little — our photographer Dave DiCello was pretty much sprinting sideline to sideline, snapping away all day. And when he finally was done, he decided he’d dramatically whittle down all his work for me to peruse.

So the man sent me 238 pictures, with one tiny bit of guidance: “I just love the one where Antonio Brown is pointing right at me!”

You want to talk about a tough assignment?

I used one of these pics for Coolong’s coverage, three for my column and nine to run with this weekly gallery. Which should tell you an agonizing 225 were left on the cutting-room floor. Or, ideally, for future use in other features we’ll do.

Anyway, here’s hoping you enjoy those that made it as much as I did.

DiCello: Pickles to Pittsburgh

by Dejan Kovacevic • Photos • DiCello

By Dejan Kovacevic
Dave DiCello found himself in quite the pickle this weekend, photographing Picklesburgh on the Rachel Carson Bridge while also trying to get a good dill on a fresh jar.

Sorry.
