Thanks DK did read the piece in question. You gave them credit for the Miami win, good for you. Still don't agree with a so what approach to a bowl game though. Will agree that no one should be satisfied or happy with how season played out or state of the program in general.

I unxerstand there are 72 bids available. So far 79 teams have qualified with two more possible. I assume my school Ohio U will miss out. We don't have a draw like Conner.

I think it's sad that a .500 team goes to a bowl in the first place. I understand the "extra practice" thing. How bout this ? Let em have the extra practices even in they don't go to a bowl game. If your mediocre in the real world you don't get a prize. They shouldn't in CFB either.

Dejan, love the article. Pitt alumni. Went to Pitt during Hackett/Majors era. Only time I can say in the past 25 years where there was a major improvement in the program was when Harris took the program over. Went from getting crushed by good teams and loosing recruiting battles to MAC teams to respectable, slightly above average performances. So, they fire Harris because he can't get over the hump, and look at what they got? A whole bunch of other coaches that can't get them over the top AND not enough support from the athletic department.
So, yes, I yawn at this win, just like Dejan and this season.
Wake me up when they fire Pederson, up the recruiting budget and force Chrystal to hire a decent defensive coordinator. I don't think firing Chrystal helps right now. But, there are big changes that need made.

If this was the 1975 Sun Bowl, I'd disagree with DK's column. But this is an era in which way too many teams with .500 records make bowls. Pitt, which I have followed for the four decades I can remember, is stuck on the hamster wheel, spinning from one .500-caliber bowl to another. Bowls no longer are exceptional accomplishments, when more than half the teams playing Division I football make them.
Way too many feelings hurt on this. I'd give Chryst one more year -- one more -- to play his way to at least nine wins and/or show that the future does not hold more of these nonsense bowls. As for Pederson, he's had his chances.

The problem is 76 of 128 teams go to bowl games or 59%. (38 bowl games)
Too many bowl games.
6-6 teams don't deserve to go to bowl games.
Back in the day there were only 15 bowl games and only 30 teams. It was special to get selected.
Now, it's just another game.

Two things:
1) I'm a UConn alumnus. I'd be deliriously happy with 6-6 and a bowl game, even if it was against West Eastern Kentucky State.
2) You complain about being satisfied with mediocrity, then put in a plug for Starbucks. Which proves that pretty much everyone settles for mediocrity in some part of their lives.

Those extra 30 extra practices that they received the last 2 years sure have made a difference. Can you imagine how bad the defense would be without them?

I don't know what it is about Pitt fans, but mediocrity has ALWAYS been the standard. They are always looking for something to feel good about, and as long as they can find something they are happy. Last night's win could have been their first of the year and the Pitt fans would still be ecstatic. "Hey, at least we won a game this year! Yay for us!" It's the same thing with the basketball team too. Some of Dixon's teams should have accomplished much more than they did, but the Pitt fans' response is always "At least we made the tournament." The standard is the standard at Pitt, and the standard is mediocrity.
