I understand the source here can be taken with a grain of salt ,perhaps even a large one, but this is easily the most well thought out Pro Penn State article I've seen to this point, at least for those of us who haven't had our minds completely molded just yet.

Ah yes, the uplifting world of the comments section!

DK reflects the sentiment that I see as I travel around much of the country for my job. Western PA had a resounding anti Joe Paterno and Penn State reaction to the ESPN coverage that motivated the NCAA overreach that I think resulted in the vacated wins. Spending time in and out of Pittsburgh during the first couple of months of the late fall when the Sandusky news broke - the level of disgust and tone of sports talk radio and columnists was noticeably higher than anywhere else. Seems like the vacated wins made some people feel better about the abuse the children endured, and that still seems like that view is reflected here. As a native Pittsburgher, the number of folks that seem to sound like they have a lot of experience of how they would have dealt with all of this is impressive. The rest of the country doesn't care as much as the Pittsburgh area seems to.

My family and I have had an interesting experience over the last week or so here in the DC area. My oldest son plays hockey down here within the little Caps organization. (I love wearing my Pens gear to all his games, him not so much). The coach of the team the age group below my son was arrested last week for soliciting children online through a police sting operation. After his arrest, child porn was found on his computer. More may come regarding his sick life. No one around the team had any indication of his inclination, and many parents that I am good friends with had not noticed anything weird regarding this guy. He was an ex-player and had what seemed to be a solid coaching rep. My point is these people are sick and depraved, and willing to go to great lengths to manipulate their environment to get what they want. We are thankful that the kids on the team all seemed to not have been his targets. Some have blamed the Caps organization to an extent that people like to do that, and that they should have known what was going on. I don't know how they would know what this guy was into.

So, 20 days into my New Year resolution that I was not going to read anybodies comments section, let alone post in one, I share with you one more thought. Let's hope that the law suit settlement results in many Pittsburgh area kids getting the help that they need to deal with an abusive relationship. The lawsuit was filed to insure that the NCAA must spend the $60 million within the state after all. The reinstatement of the wins was an after thought, as it should be.

Let's not lump people together William. I was a Penn State student several years ago and a huge Penn State fan. I have severely distanced myself from the university since this whole thing came out. I am very outspoken against the university and everyone involved when this comes up in discussion in my life. I have not watched a game since. I have not bought any merchandise since. Maybe some day, I'll be able to regain some interest in the football program, but that day has still not come for me. It is just too sad to think about what they let happen so they wouldn't look bad. There are many Penn State fans who are appalled by what happened like me. I couldn't care less about the wins one way or the other. I just wish everyone involved with or a fan of Penn State would stop fighting the issue, accept full responsibility for dropping the ball, and try to move on.

Couldn't agree any more strongly with this point. Instead of all this energy being focused on the admirable work Judge Freeh did, I'd like some investigation of the half-hearted efforts of George Mitchell. If improved "institutional control" means appointing a bunch of deranged people to the university's board of trustees and having the other athletic teams express an opinion that nothing bad happened institutionally, then I don't know what to say.

The length that PSU supporters go to try and disconnect everything PSU from what happened in "Happy Valley" is disconcerting. I think it showed a total disregard to the people hurt or victimized by what happened there for the universities sports teams to promote "409" in sporting events yesterday and probably this weekend and forever more. Just goes to show you that football and the Paterno legacy is all that matters to too many people.......my only hope is that God grants those victimized some peace and comfort.

I feel for the players (also children) who were told their wins didn't count. But they were there, they know they won. It's not going to affect their lives now.

The part that makes me really angry is the removal of the sanctions. That never should have happened. The program misbehaved. And that's putting it very mildly.

These were children that got abused. And in a lot of the posts below it seems like that is being separated from the football program. That makes me sick. If it wasn't for the football program, it wouldn't have happened at Penn State. If it wasn't for everyone who turned a blind eye, it wouldn't have continued. And I'm including Paterno in that. I'm happy to take him at his word that he could have done more. He should have gone to the police. It was his place to protect the children. I find the inaction just as bad as Sandusky's actions. Children were hurt emotionally and physically. And they let it happen. Those children continue to suffer today, especially when things like this make the news. I can't even imagine how they must feel seeing some of these comments.

Dejan, I happen to agree with your stance. And I'm proud to be a Lunatic. I think that it's going a little too far if this one opinion makes people no longer want to subscribe. I happen to think this was a great view but I wouldn't unsubscribe if I disagreed with it. But that's just my opinion… and everyone is entitled to have their own. I'm glad you shared yours, even if you didn't say much. It said it all.
