Pirates

Column: They might be Giants

That’s eight-runs-to-zero, Madison-Bumgarner-barely-sweating-the-distance and Brandon-Crawford-crushing-PNC-Park-with-a-single-swing legit.

SAN FRANCISCO -- The Pirates aren't the Giants.

And nothing about any one outcome, including their 4-3 edging of the hosts Monday night at AT&T Park, not Gerrit Cole's seven strong innings, not batterymate Chris Stewart's three doubles, not Andrew McCutchen narrowly missing on a fistful of RBIs but settling for two, not some nutty dude in a Pittsburgh-era Barry Bonds jersey interfering with a ball to the Pirates' benefit ... none of that will change that this brilliant city is basking in the afterglow of three World Series championships in the past five years.

That's legit.

That's three rings worth of legit.

That's eight-runs-to-zero, Madison-Bumgarner-barely-sweating-the-distance and Brandon-Crawford-crushing-PNC-Park-with-a-single-swing legit.

At the same time, there's something to be said for growing up with the right role model.
