A weekly look at what’s new, what’s coming on our site …
• A plan is being made up, though it’s far from firm, for how we could cover colleges in the coming NCAA season. What’s settled at this stage: It would be done mostly by our own staff, with a couple key exceptions, and the schools involved will be Pitt and Duquesne, the ones I covered by myself last season, as well as Penn State, West Virginia and Robert Morris.

I’m interested in hearing about the type of college coverage you’d prefer, and I’d welcome hearing that in the comments below. That said, I’m absolutely not interested in anything related to individual schools. I don’t care which schools you hail or hate, and I don’t want the conversation to plunge off a cliff. To reiterate, let’s hear what type of coverage — features, columns, game coverage, frequency, travel, etc. — interests you.
To make a related point here: I’d actually be doing Steelers, Penguins and Pirates more than ever under this plan. I was covering some Pitt and Duquesne events last season that now would go mostly to someone else. So this plan has very little to do with me and nothing at all to do with coverage of the big three.
Thanks in advance for keeping it civil.
• Inspired by the addition of Dave DiCello and his amazing images, we’ve worked with site guru Jordan Saunders to add a way for you to enjoy all of our quality photography a little bit more by simply clicking on the pic. If there’s a larger version of it — and that won’t always be the case — it will expand right there on your screen. To revert it, click the little X at the top right corner.
• Uh-oh. Benstonium called. I’ve been summoned to duty this weekend. I’m terrified.
• Our new pregame notes have been a hit, judging from the early feedback, so you can be sure to have a set of those before every game we’re staffing. To be honest, I found them kind of fun to do out on the West Coast. Nice little outlet for extra info culled before the event.
