They didn’t need just a backup, they needed a starter for 3 tough games and then a reliable backup plan if something happened to Bell. I’m not saying DW is the ideal guy but they definitely needed someone who was more of a proven asset.

Maybe…Remember this name for your fantasy draft, Travaris Cadet, Patriots. Cheaper, younger, better pass catcher than Williams. I felt that was the direction Steelers should have gone for a backup.

Seems to me Dan’s story focused on the d-backs (where there are so many new guys) and the linebackers (where there are so many guys who yet to have played a full season).

Nothing about the D-line was mentioned. Every news bits article cannot cover every segment of team.

Me, I’m personally angry Dan did not talk about the leader of the punters!!

I want to give him a pass for his injury as well but that’s just because I want him to be solid and not a huge financial mistake. The biggest issue I have when watching him is the angle he takes to the ball. Injured groin or not – you have to take the right damn angle to the ball carrier. The props he got for his “game saving tackle” against cinci were fine but when you watch the replay, the angle he took was atrocious which made the runhimdownfrombehind tackle necessary. I hope to see different things this year. For now, I will buy the whole story line that Troy doing what he did put unnecessary pressure on MM. But until I see it on the field I won’t truly believe it. Call me cautiously optimistic -stemming from being a fan- not from what I’ve seen on tape.

Mitchell may have been the product of what was a superior pass rush in Carolina. But besides injury, I think he can be excused at least for a year, to learn the defense. Let’s not forget the Patron Saint of the North Side, Troy Polamalu was horrific in coverage last year.

I don’t think the defense will be great next year. But I think it could be better if they get pressure.

Injuries are part of the game and seems to me Bettis did one helluva job with pulled groin. If he was hurt as badly as you think, he should not have been playing. He ha never done anything in his career- groin or no groin. Another cheap acquisition by Colbert.
