PNC Park was as quiet as the Pirates’ bats.
Some in the crowd were sleeping, some were wooing, but one thing they weren’t doing was witnessing any runs. Finally, at 1:05 a.m. -- precisely six hours after the game was supposed to begin, though it was delayed 1:26 because of rain -- Starling Marte’s single in the 13th inning scored Chris Stewart, giving the Pirates a walkoff win in their first extra-inning victory of the season, a 1-0 win against the Phillies.
Stewart sliced his knee on a stylish slide into home, but joked after that, when you score the game-winning run, you can behave however you please.
It was likely their most surreal win of the season.
