SUNRISE, Fla. -- Connor McDavid is a prodigy. If you’ve seen him play, you know.
But will the NHL let him be the true superstar his talent suggests he should become?
That’s the real question.
McDavid was just drafted by the Oilers No. 1 overall in the NHL Draft. That’s no surprise. But his life has changed. He isn’t destroying the youth hockey leagues in Toronto any longer. This isn’t Erie, either. No, this is the NHL, where hooking is acceptable, blocking shots is mandatory and goalies are really, really good, whether their pads are too big or not.
The NHL is so very lucky right now. It is receiving a player who essentially has the same amount of physical talent possessed by Sidney Crosby.
Don’t believe me?
Let me walk you down memory lane.
