News: The U.S. women’s national team, including Gibsonia’s Meghan Klingenberg, blew out Japan, 5-2, to win its third FIFA World Cup in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Gibsonia is an unincorporated community in Richland Township. The USWNT page lists Gibsonia as her home town. Of course, being from Gibsonia, she would have gone to school in the Pine-Richland school district.
Btw, just mentioning it, shouldn't the USWNT have sat her for AT LEAST the first group stage game? No punishment? We don't like that in the NFL.
And I say this with full knowledge of what a tough childhood she had.
Not a huge fan of that joke, but US Soccer definitely deserves all the bad press it's gotten over the Solo situation. They suspended her for a while earlier in the year, but new details came to the surface afterward.
Matt, up in Seattle she and Stevens were frequently in the news...if not for the altercations, then it was for their reactions to the fact anybody was upset. They both have enough that they should have been reimbursing the local PD/county offices for the time and energy spent. I was up there for their tired act.
She is a brilliant talent. Better than anybody else at her position in the world. It's sad to see women's sports cross that terrible line into lax accountability. Congrats...women have achieved equality on another level.
I promise I will let it go after this - you can see I posted something very positive earlier...I do love this team.
Here's my gripe: We all love to get on somebody else who doesn't hold the line - whether it be a team or a commissioner. Somebody has to stand up and be better than that. We weren't - we as in a USA team. And we could have done it seemingly low risk with a one game group stage suspension.
We didn't.
When the NFL lets two NON Steelers off the hook this year (or the NHL lets off a Colorado goalie again), I don't want to hear it.
A national team shrunk in a morally defining moment.
(But boy, did those women step up big on the field - this wasn't their call and they shouldn't be blamed.)
Let's not forget her hubby got DUI'd in a freaking US Soccer team van. But hey no harm no foul. Ridiculous. U.S. Wins cup without Solo and U.S. Soccer Federation fails the sobriety test on not sitting her.
It was interesting the way the broadcast showed all of the wonderful emotions of the players during the post-game celebration. Made me tear up! But it was also noticeable that they tried to keep the camera away from Solo, I assume intentionally. Congrats to the team, I'm very happy for all but one of them!
Thrilled for Tobin Heath who has had to overcome being dubbed the next Mia years ago and numerous injuries. Thrilled she got a goal. Also for Wambach and Rampone, Wambach's 1st and Rampone is 40. FORTY!
Amazing job, and thrilled for all of them, including the straigh ahead style of play today.
So glad to see them win. Watched in 07, 11, and 15, plus all their Olympics since 08. So glad they finally got the cup. I'm debating getting a Klingenberg jersey to area to their game at Heinz in August.
I was into the Women's World Cup, I have to admit. I enjoyed the tourney and was thrilled with the win. I wondered why I was so into it. I figured out why. I had a vested rooting interest. Well, I mean vested to the point of having what would be "my team". I enjoyed this more than the Super Bowl, or NBA or NHL finals. And again, I realized why. If my team, (Pittsburgh teams) weren't playing, at the end, even if I hate (cough Patriots cough) the team, I still really could care who wins if my team is not in it. Obviously Team USA was "my team", so it was fun rooting for a team to win a championship.
My wife and I went to Pipers Pub and to watch the final and it was awesome. Great atmosphere, and with how the start of the game went everyone was going nuts! Congrats to the US Women World Cup Champions!
