The Pirates just placed Josh Harrison on the 15-day disabled list because of an unspecified injury to his left thumb.
The thumb was hurt in the seventh inning of the game Sunday, the team said. No play was cited, but Harrison slid hard and awkwardly with his left hand into second base on a steal in the seventh.
If the ligaments are torn, Harrison likely would miss about six weeks, but he will seek a second opinion later this week, so that's not conclusive.
Newly claimed Travis Ishikawa took Harrison's place on the 25-man roster.
Update 4:31 p.m. by Nate Barnes: Harrison, sporting a heavily wrapped left hand with ice on his thumb, confirmed he hurt his thumb when he slid to steal second base in the seventh inning. Harrison said he felt his hands get stuck in the dirt. Both were cut up after the play, evidenced by bandages on his right wrist, as well.
