In uniform, no less.

Barnes was introduced as full time Pirates beat writer on July 4th. Now he’s not full time already? Tough boss lol

As recently as Matt Gajtka’s Friday Insider column, he mentioned the Penguins opinion regarding Oskar Sundqvist’s “high hockey IQ”. This, along with the frequent repetition of some ‘baseball fundamentals’-related errors led me to think about player IQ both as it pertains to intelligence in general as well as sport-specific knowledge and mental reaction to live game situations. Do teams have a way of gauging (other than standard IQ scores) a player’s individual cognitive capabilities and if they do, why are these stats not available to the fans, as most other stats seem to be? I’m actually a little surprised that not one of the “5 tools” that get mentioned when addressing a player’s overall performance grading has anything to do with intelligence.

With the Phillie’s being sellers at the deadline, who do you see the Pirates going after? I have heard about Revere, but do you see them being interested in any other Phillie players? And what will it take to get certain players that could help for a playoff run?

We just reduced that list in the top left corner to paid regular staffers. Hoping to add another very soon.

No other company would get into specifics, and I won’t, either. I hope that’s respected.
