CINCINNATI - The pomp and circumstance of the All-Star Game was in full bloom the other day at Great American Ball Park and A.J. Burnett was taking it all in.
Then, someone asked about the Cardinals.
Burnett turned serious.
“It’s going to be a battle every single time we play those guys over there,” Burnett said, pointing to the small village of Cardinals in the National League clubhouse. “They know. We know it. It’s the way those games are going to go. These will be great games, a great battle.”
Burnett has an interesting habit of not referring to them as “the Cardinals.” Instead, the Cardinals are “those guys over there.”
