I don’t want to say Coates is in over his head, but he doesn’t look particularly comfortable. He’s gotten a few reps with Ben under center, and he didn’t get the ball. Perhaps that’s intentional.

He had a target yesterday on a midrange curl and the DB may have gotten there a step early. He didn’t come down with it, and with the refs on hand, flags were being thrown, but he didn’t get one. Looked like he was holding back a few comments and his body language was not suggesting he brushed it off.

As much as Tomlin pushes Wheaton he has to see it too.

What are your thoughts on Coates? Things I’ve heard/read he sounds over his head, like Bryant last year, just not ready yet.

I’d say hockey is the sport I’ve covered the most, and I still learn quite a bit from coaches and players when I speak to them. Baseball’s the same way, but especially with a sport I’ve only watched, like football.
