CINCINNATI -- The Pirates have made two moves right at Major League Baseball's 4 p.m. trading deadline, acquiring Michael Morse, an outfielder and first baseman, from the Dodgers, along with cash, for Jose Tabata, as well as acquiring left-handed starter J.A. Happ from the Mariners for prospect Adrian Sampson.

This brings to a conclusion the strange Tabata tenure. He had been relegated to Class AAA for much of this season, his only significant contribution at the Major League level being his controversial at-bat against the Nationals, which ended Max Scherzer's perfect game when Tabata was hit by a pitch. Tabata signed a six-year contract in 2011.
