After 3 1/2 hours' worth of delays and just 80 minutes of baseball, Monday's game between the Pirates and Cubs at PNC Park was postponed by persistent rain and lightning.
The two teams completed four innings with the score tied, 1-1. Gregory Polanco knotted the game in the third inning with an RBI double, countering Anthony Rizzo's run-scoring single in the top half of the frame.
The anticipated starting pitching matchup between left-handers Francisco Liriano and Jon Lester fizzled after an initial two-hour delay in the bottom of the second. Both struck out three, but were removed when play resumed a few minutes shy of 10 p.m.
