Remember, if you will, a time when this year's Pirates were winless in extra-inning games. Hard to believe, but they were 0-6 as recently as June 10.
In the 10 weeks since, they've earned 10 extra-inning victories in 11 opportunities, the latest of which -- a 9-8, 15-inning slugfest over the Diamondbacks in the wee hours of Wednesday morning -- came in truly unexpected fashion.
Two hours after improbably wasting an 8-3 eighth-inning lead, the Pirates found themselves in their longest game since two years ago to the day -- also against Arizona at PNC Park. That game went the Diamondbacks' way. But exactly 21 minutes after baseball's most legendary No. 21 would have celebrated his 81st birthday, the Pirates prevailed when Pedro Florimon bashed a two-out opposite-field triple off the Roberto Clemente Wall:

Hey, things can get eerie after midnight.
"It was my first walkoff, so I have to be happy for that," Florimon revealed after collecting just his second hit in 19 at-bats this year. "Everybody was jumping around."
