The reason the Marlins escaped the 5th without the Pirates scoring was once again our abysmal 3B coach Sofield, who held Polanco, perhaps the second fastest player in MLB, on Cutch’s single. Yes, there were no outs, but you take runs when you can get them.
I watched the replay twice: The ball was hit to the RF’s right and he wasn’t in position to throw home. In fact, he never even looked toward the plate and was throwing to second when Sofield held Polonco.
The As fired their 3B coach today. Just saying.

DBacks waste a big opportunity in the bottom of the 5th. Goldy grounds into an inning ending DP with the bases loaded.

I will be here for all 4 games. Looks like the Marlins are taking advantage of the fact that Bucs can’t retaliate and risk suspension. I’d be shocked if there aren’t more beanings. What a bunch of cowards these Marlins are.

This stadium is awful. No character. I’ve lived in Miami for a year and a half and they’ve opened the dome ONCE. There’s a great view of the coty skyline but you never get to see it because the roof is closed and people would complain it is too hot if it is opened.

Pirates now with 75 wins and having their best season since 1972 (when they were 77-46 after 123 games).

They need to win out in August (3 against Fish and 3 against Rocks) to hit 81 wins in August for the first time since the World Series championship year of 1971.

I know we’ve been good for a few years now and .500 means nothing to this team, but to think we have a shot of clinching 81 wins before the end of August is pretty cool.

NH looks like a genius for the trade deadline pickups. Ramirez was a great stop-gap until Mercer/Harrison came back. Happ is outperforming AJ before the injury. Soria, while not perfect, has given a sporadic Hughes a bit of a breather and made that bullpen even stronger. Morse still is TBD but he’s not a bad bat off the bench. Me thinks NH knows what he’s doing…

I’d be curious to see what Searage could do with Justin Masterson. Probably too late in the season and too risky to try it, but that could be another match.
