So Josh brought his mom over for the filming of this episode, and there’s no way you should watch it without first being informed of that.
And she watched us talk about Michael Vick from the football standpoint, Phil Kessel from the first-line standpoint and Neal Huntington from the revisionist standpoint:
In light of AJ Burnette's injury & the inconsistency exhibited by both Jeff Locke and Charlie Morton, adding a David Price, Johnny Cueto or even Scott Kazmier would look really good now. It's nice to have other position pieces, but a bona fide solid starter would be the icing.
Totally get that our society offers people second chances after paying for their crimes and also totally get that Vick is the best backup available right now. Just always was proud of the organization for being a step above all the others and this was disappointing. I know it was just yesterday but hope the Steelers, and Vick if he's smart, do something official to support the ASPCA. Might ease tensions a bit and bring back the class a little bit to turn it in to a positive in that sense.
Do you think Michael Vick got a slap on the wrist for his crimes?
If someone commits a crime against animals, here's how events usually unfold:
The person committing the animal crime is caught and successfully prosecuted and pleads guilty to a federal felony.
As the case plays out in the public domain, there is a wave of social disapproval and a new awareness of the gravity of the problem.
There is a new attitude and resolve in dealing with this crime across the nation. For its part, The HSUS seeks to drive reforms in law enforcement, public policy, social work, and other relevant sectors.
Finally, after the perpetrator is released from prison, he is typically assigned to the equivalent of community service helping to address the problem.
And that's how the Vick story progressed. He served his time in prison, he admitted his wrongdoing, and his regret, and he determined to make amends. His work in reaching out to important audiences now buttresses that of the leading anti-dogfighting group in the nation in its broad efforts to attack the problem.
Not taking a side here, but I think it's only fair this information be acknowledged. Granted, this was back in 2012, but that's just one example. There are plenty more that show Vick doing this kind of work up to today, in both Philadelphia and New York (where he was playing). We have no reason to think he's not willing to do the same things in Pittsburgh.
I love Morning Java with my morning java! A bobble head (NHL Jets, maybe?) magically appeared on the table for the Pirates segment. Do I win a prize for spotting this???
Also...I would love to have a tour of your bobble head collection one day, or an explanation or close-up shot of the ones you feature on the table each week. Lots of fun! :)
From the football aspect of adding Michael Vick, the fact that he is left-handed will be the biggest adjustment for the offense. Not just the fact that protection shifts to Marcus Gilbert blocking his blind side, but also that the receivers will have to adjust to catching his passes....opposite spin on the ball from what they are used to.
Any possibility NH bolts the Pirates at some point over next few years and heads to a San Diego, Philadelphia, or White Sox for example? teams that are willing to spend big on FA? Pirates are a great story and he did an amazing job, but it seems as though ownership is content with one off WC games and will never spend what they need to surpass that. The Pirates will never have as good of scouts as StL, and will never spend like the Cubs...the window, even for one offs, is closing quickly...
