Good morning, and happy Monday!
The camera of our Dave DiCello gets around by plane, copter and even drone to take some of his trademark shots of our city. Here’s a handful of recent ones he selected for this week’s gallery and, as always, click or tap the image to enlarge.
Antonio Brown points right at our photographer's lens during one of the drills Sunday. -- DAVE DiCELLO
July 27, 2015
LATROBE, Pa. — While new beat man Neal Coolong and I lounged in the shade at the Steelers’ first practice Sunday — OK, we got around a little — our photographer Dave DiCello was pretty much sprinting sideline to sideline, snapping away all day. And when he finally was done, he decided he’d dramatically whittle down all his work for me to peruse.
So the man sent me 238 pictures, with one tiny bit of guidance: “I just love the one where Antonio Brown is pointing right at me!”
You want to talk about a tough assignment?
I used one of these pics for Coolong’s coverage, three for my column and nine to run with this weekly gallery. Which should tell you an agonizing 225 were left on the cutting-room floor. Or, ideally, for future use in other features we’ll do.
Anyway, here’s hoping you enjoy those that made it as much as I did.

Dave DiCello found himself in quite the pickle this weekend, photographing Picklesburgh on the Rachel Carson Bridge while also trying to get a good dill on a fresh jar.
Sorry.

The only thing brighter in Pittsburgh than Heinz Field's seats are fireworks on the Fourth. -- DAVE DiCELLO

When Dave DiCello sets up to cover Fourth of July fireworks, he never has to worry about missing a shot. Our next fireworks display is never more than a day away around here.

Our Dave DiCello might have been anchored to his booth at the Three Rivers Arts Festival this past week, but his photography and love of Pittsburgh know no earthly bound, as this week’s series of aerial shots — taken from a helicopter — illustrate.

Our Dave DiCello spent his weekend the same place most Pittsburghers did, at the Three Rivers Arts Festival. And yes, he was prepared for the trademark opening-day torrent of rain Friday, as anyone should at this stage of human evolution given all the precedent.
The man is selling prints at Booth 225 inside Point State Park, close to the Portal Bridge, and he’ll be there Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m.-9 p.m. He told me he’s already heard from dozens of subscribers delighted he’s now part of our site, and I’m sure he’d welcome more.
Below are a few shots from the weekend. If you’d like to see any enlarged, just click on it. When done, click on the X at the top right corner.

SAN DIEGO — Our Dave DiCello is best known for his brilliant photography of the Pittsburgh skyline and related scenes, so I challenged him a bit to shoot … well, another local institution: He spent a day last week with the Steelers at OTAs on the South Side.
Hope you enjoy these as much as I did in going through all the originals. If so, click on any of them, and they’ll enlarge on your laptop, tablet or app.

DiCello: A storm this way was a-brewin’
by Dejan Kovacevic • Photos • DiCello
Happy Monday!
The camera of our Dave DiCello knows no fear, least of all some silly storm like the one that assaulted our city — the poor BNY Mellon skyscraper, in particular — last week. No, our man saw this is as opportunity.
Here’s this week’s gallery. As always, click or tap the image to enlarge.
