Cutch and Jordy in the lineup!! Excellent news!

    1. cmat0829 says:

I guess Cutch really was close, eh?

    2. Eric Lauer says:

And the GM says that we have guys in AAA that can help pirates…. Tired of being lied to… I will not renew my season tix.

      1. Beak says:

What’s wrong with Lambo, Tabata, d’Arnaud and Mazzaro..?? Now this new post season ticket policy has changed my mind about supporting this franchise under this current ownership. It’s not about winning a Championship, it’s all about the $$. No chance of signing R Martin now…

      2. Eric Lauer says:

Steelers and pirates can be trusted…. Something shady going on within management of pirates… Nix, morel, Martinez, in heat of pennant race and no moves were made at trade deadline? I feel bad for Mr. Hurdle

  3. Biz says:

So, is tonight a pretty much must win?

    1. Patrick(ri) says:

How about a must play well, for starters?

    2. toochca says:

      It’s only August… But YES!!

    3. Radio wave says:

Two games back of the team you are playing. And at home. You don’t want to be 4 back on Thursday. Two must win games!

      1. Radio wave says:

To correct myself, we are one back of Braves. Still a must win.

      2. cmat0829 says:

YES, Bucs need to play well , play better and win this series.

  4. JG007 says:

Just thought. It’s pretty cool to have two legitimate LH 1b. lets them start Ike, PH with Gaby vs Lefties, and bring Pedro back when lefties are gone.

    1. cmat0829 says:

Cool is one four-letter word for it.

  5. Dejan Kovacevic says:

Small favor to ask: If possible, let’s keep the stuff about the season-ticket thing down in the related post. Plenty enough related to the team and the game for right here. Thanks!

  6. Tom P. says:

As if it matters, what roster move did they make when McCutchen came off of the DL?

  7. Eric Bowser says:

Martinez down, McCutchen activated. Next on the demotion block needs to be Morel. Good to see Polanco get a night off, he’s been scuffling a bit.

    1. Biz says:

I’m thinking a pitcher goes down when Cole gets activated tomorrow. Morel goes when Barmes comes here

      1. Eric Bowser says:

        I agree

      2. cmat0829 says:

Wrong. Morel will go. Pirates are at regular-size bullpen right now as they called up Morel to replace Morton. Sending a pitcher down leaves them a pitcher short. Bench, for now is:

        Ike/Gaby/Pedro (2)
        Stewart
        Snider
        Nix

  8. Milo Hamilton says:

Marcus Gilbert signs 6 year extension.

    1. Milo Hamilton says:

Now we return you to your regular programming.

      1. Biz says:

30 million for 5 year extension

      2. Patrick(ri) says:

With an average viewing age of 54, perhaps an Obit thread is in order?

    2. AJS says:

Sarcasm…Milo please keep steeler related posts in the steelers threads…end sarcasm.

      1. Milo Hamilton says:

Hey, I haven’t posted a death in days.

      2. Patrick(ri) says:

Don’t think you can use “Milo” and “end sarcasm” in the same sentence.

  9. Ragpicker says:

37 games left. Now with Cutch back, along with healthier Mercer and Walker, Bucs need to go 22-15 the rest of the way to make playoffs.

  10. NMR says:

Liriano may set a personal strikeout record against this lineup.

    1. toochca says:

I would just like him to get to 7+ with less than 2 runs scored.

  11. AJS says:

Glad to have cutch and mercer back. 2 games back of wc. 6 back of the brewers. The division is likely out of reach. Second wild card looks like best bet.

    1. cmat0829 says:

I’m not ready to give up on the division, but the Brewers need to slip a notch or two to make that a reality for anyone, even the Cardinals. The Reds may be almost out of it at this point. ANY chance at ANY division competition requires series win at the HoH this weekend.

You said when you started this site you would be announcing a corporate sponsor “next week”. Did that fall through? Where is this sponsor?

    1. Dejan Kovacevic says:
      -1

I actually could easily block this trolling. Too much fun to let it in. And it’ll only become more fun in the days and weeks ahead.

      1. NMR says:

I feel like an idiot for only now noticing these questions are trolling.
        .
The amount of sad, sad people on the internet and what they get a kick out of will never cease to surprise me.

      2. Jandy says:

        Losers lol

    2. Dejan Kovacevic says:

Simply put, NMR, there are always going to be sad, lonely, bitter people who want to see a venture like this fail. So, seeing that subscriptions have been great, they think they can pick on the sponsorship deal. Except for one thing: They’ll be wrong.

  13. kr70 says:

I thought trolling was something you did while fishing, but I’m old.

    1. toochca says:

I thought it was sitting under a bridge too long?!

      1. What’s the population of Yorba Linda?

      2. toochca says:

According to the 2000 Census – 58,918. Probably Closed to 65-70,000 now.

        Why do you ask?

      3. toochca says:

        Here is the cities link
        http://www.ci.yorba-linda.ca.us/

      4. I just wondered if you might be neighbors with Tarek and Christina from Flip or Flop. Thanks.

      5. Neat sight, tooch. I’m guessing they aren’t as popular out there as on HGTV.

      6. toochca says:

Didn’t even realize they lived in my town. They definitely aren’t in my immediate neighborhood. I’m sure I’m not in their “tax bracket” either.

    2. What does it mean exactly? I’m old, too, in comparison.

      1. toochca says:

a troll is a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people

      2. Thanks. Couldn’t find it in the slang dictionary I use.

  14. Milo Hamilton says:

Sorry for the interruption, but Brett Keisel is coming back to the Steelers. Deal should be completed in the next couple of days – per Eddie Boo.
    .
    As you were.

    1. toochca says:

Any idea on the contract particulars?

      1. Milo Hamilton says:

Haven’t seen it anywhere. Probably 1 year at the veteran minimum. This was always about missing training camp. Once Arizona made an offer the Steelers felt they had to act before he got on the plane.

      2. Milo Hamilton says:

Last thought – I think this is bad news for Steve McClendon.

      3. Dodkong says:

You’re assuming Thomas become the starting NT then?

      4. Milo Hamilton says:

The thought had crossed my mind about Thomas playing the nose, yes. McClendon is just getting moved too easily.

      5. Dodkong says:

Ok. First reply I started to type out was along the lines of “But they don’t play the same position” then realized that there is some positional flexibility available.

    2. Wild Bill says:

And – he sadly avoided any damage in training camp!

      1. Wild Bill says:

Sorry, Milo. Didn’t see you had called this already.

      2. Milo Hamilton says:

No worries Bill. This just shows we’ve been around so long we know how these old vets think.

    3. Florida Steeler says:

Rumor has it they are not happy with guy from San Diego??

  15. Dejan Kovacevic says:

Not at PNC Park tonight. Working on a Steelers ‘News and views’ piece for the morning. Will cover Pirates-Braves finale tomorrow.

  16. Wild Bill says:

Saw on Eddie B’s chat on the P-G that there’s a guy who uses my moniker and asks really stupid questions. That is not me, folks!

    1. Arriba Wilver says:

      Wasn’t me, either. ;-)

  17. toochca says:

On this day 63 years ago, the 3-foot-7 Eddie Gaedel stepped up to the plate

  18. aglebagel says:

Wow, great pitch there to get Cutch looking. I think Cutch didn’t like it, but pitch fx showed it right on the outside corner at the knees.

  19. John says:

    More atrocious fielding by Walker.

    1. toochca says:

      How?

      1. John says:

He should get that tag down 9/10 times.

      2. toochca says:

Listening on MLB app. Don’t have the luxury of TV yet.

    2. Patrick(ri) says:
      -1

The tag play looked like a man with a sore back.

  20. Wild Bill says:

Aaron Harang looks like he ate somebody since we last saw him, but he got himself an RBI.

    1. Patrick(ri) says:

Old movie starring Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes fighting an ugly adversary known as the “Dulwich Horror”- looked just like Harrang, before the beard.

  21. Milo Hamilton says:

I think a troll can also be loosely defined as 1 person that posts the same old tired drivel under 3 or 4 different names.
    .
But I could be wrong. :)

    1. G8rh8r says:

yeah we got a few of these, and they even answer their own posts and agree with their alter egos…really stupid

    2. stuart66 says:

Trolls frequently live under bridges where they can watch and listen without being seen or heard.

We have a lot of trolls here. Many including myself read everything, but pick our spots to comment.

I personally enjoy the whole blog, but can’t help dropping a sarcasm once in

      1. stuart66 says:

A while. Some of the trolls only comment on a particular subject like BMTIB usually negatively. Probably 95% on this blog are fans of one or more Pittsburgh sports teams.

        Stuart

    3. pattonbb says:

      Say it ain’t so. :)

  22. WVStarship says:

Does saying that the Pirates really suck make me a troll?

    1. Milo Hamilton says:

I’m afraid it makes you right.

    2. cmat0829 says:

      not tonight it doesn’t.

  23. cmat0829 says:

Frankie’s location is TERRIBLE tonight. Bad. Starting pitching is killing this team.

    1. AJS says:

That doesnt match the rhetoric. They didnt need price and were stupid to spend all their energy pursuing him.

Thats a half truth. Needed something in all facets not JUST starting pitching and thus should have put a little energy into morw than JUST price.

      1. cmat0829 says:

my comment had nothing to do with the deadline pursuit or lack thereof. Just in this last brutal stretch the starters are killing this team.

  24. cmat0829 says:

Both 2013 NL Wild Card teams are playing woefully right now.

  25. Jandy says:

OK so I get tagged for the ice bucket challenge, and I dutifully do it, post it on FB, and do my donation to ALS. Then I turn on the game, to THIS? Not fair!!! >:<

  26. Milo Hamilton says:

I guess getting someone up in the pen here would make too much sense ?

    1. cmat0829 says:

its like playing russian roulette at this point.

  27. G8rh8r says:

snyder has been ripping it…there I said it, lol

    1. cmat0829 says:

so has Snider. (sorry, Snyder is the former catcher and the super on One Day at a Time)

      1. G8rh8r says:

        funny

  28. cmat0829 says:

Boy the Bucs are bashing it but have a bad case of the ‘at ems’ Harang is making quite the impression (on the mound surface that is).

    1. G8rh8r says:

By the way, that was Schneider on One Day

      1. cmat0829 says:

ah, thanks for the trip down memory lane and the spelling tip. I bet John Wehner loves that version of spelling that name.

  29. AJS says:

So how many weeks until football season?

    1. cmat0829 says:

9 days from College Football and 16 days for the NFL.

  30. Reading says:

How about at least putting up a fight? Getting sand basically kicked in their faces in a critical game?

  31. cmat0829 says:

From the “is there hope” department: This Braves team, which is 7-4 since August 8, recently had an 0-8 road trip and scored a total of 19 runs on that entire trip. Now they are hot, just swept the A’s and are throttling the Bucs.

  32. cmat0829 says:

Can we score that last one to Walker an E-(4-6-3)? That could’ve and probably should’ve been a double play.

    1. toochca says:

      That’s a tough call cmat.

      1. cmat0829 says:

yes, its tough but it’s MLB and it’s how I saw it. He is hobbling though so I cut him some slack but his feet were slow there.

  33. Milo Hamilton says:

Last year they struck a bunch of guys out & caught the ball. This year looks like 2011 & 2012. Feh.

    1. Oshie says:

A cold shiver went through my spine at mention of 2011. Still think they may acquire some people before 08/31. By waiting one month after the trade deadline, that’s one less month of paying the guy! They are not out of the race yet.

  34. cmat0829 says:

It really is startling how the Braves are just teeing off on the Pirates pitchers, like they know what’s coming and where. this is a team that has really really struggled at times this year and strikes out a ton.

    1. pattonbb says:

When BJ Upton gets 2 hits off of you, it’s time to wave the white flag.

      1. cmat0829 says:

yes that is so TRUE. One of the worst signings in MLB in the past decade. Truly.

    2. Wild Bill says:

“know what’s coming”…does any relative of Belichick work for the Braves??

  35. Wild Bill says:

When you’re not playing well and have buzzard’s luck at the same time, the opposition has ten runs by the 5th inning.

  36. theplanisworking says:

    Ok…..
DK says don’t talk about Pirate finances when discussing player acquisitions…it’s a ‘tired’ subject. No problem.
DK asks that we keep the season ticket stuff out. No problem.
There are trolls agitating about this site’s corporate sponsors. DK just can’t win.

    1. theplanisworking says:

So, channeling my inner Milo, I will describe this whole day in Pirate happenings :
      .
      .
      .
      STINKS.
      .
Now back to our regular scheduled blog.
      Calling Jandy for a miracle.

      1. Jandy says:

Planimal, I don’t have any miracles. These guys just have to do better. And they need some help. :(

Get those rosary beads ready !!!

      3. Mind numbing. The 2013 feeling is gone. Feels like 2011 and 2012.

      4. Jandy says:

        This makes me sad :(

    2. Karen22 says:

And I’ve been agitating him all night with emails because the site bumped me (it was all a confused, email address misunderstanding). So if he can’t get his column written, it’s all my fault. ;)

      1. theplanisworking says:

No Karen, it’s all my fault.

Never blame a lady for anything.
You, Jandy and Barb (any any other ladies out there), are safe.
        .
I in turn blame everything on my dog, so it’s all good.
        .

  38. Oshie says:

I wonder what football’s unwritten rules call for regarding Manziel’s really mature gesture last night. Baseball’s rules cost us Andrew.

    1. He ought to be fined and made to play against the Steelers in the opener where they can devour him.

      1. Biz says:

There is supposedly a standard fine of one game check or 11K for what he did

    2. cmat0829 says:

I’m pretty sure you have to actually DO SOMETHING in the NFL before you go off with your gestures. But this kid is in for a rude awakening when he gets into a real game. He said it best: “I’m not ready for Pittsburgh”. That be damn sure Johnny.

      1. Jandy says:

This kid is a total douchbag.

  39. Karen22 says:

Just thought I’d check in to say, WOW, glad I’m still reading that good book….

  40. Biz says:

So, a couple of more losses, do you think NH will be a seller come Aug 31st?

  41. toochca says:

Cmat, I just saw your reply to my first comment… The information I received was incorrect.

    I was wrong and gladly.

  42. Jeffrey Antolic says:

Ike Davis – Strikeout with the usual whining to the umpire, 2 weak pop ups…yeah Clint you’re right, Lambo can’t help.

I have no idea why when the game was 10-1 Pedro wasn’t subbed in for Davis. Game is already lost. You might as well get him the at-bats and practice at 1b in a already lost game.

Hurdle waved the white flag when he brought Crumpton in, should have went all in with Pedro
