  1. Biz says:

Congrats for getting the SportsShowdown gig, Dejan

    1. Arriba Wilver says:

I can’t wait for the first time Fillipponi calls him a Steelers apologist.

      1. Karen22 says:

AW – Andrew is juuust a little bit feisty!

      2. Milo Hamilton says:

        Fullabaloney.

    2. Karen22 says:

DITTO! I’ve missed him on it – have been watching the Showdown EVERY night for years!

      1. Karen22 says:

I meant the Nightly SportsCall…sometimes am able to stay up for the Showdown.

I’m pretty surprised that this agreement came together. DK really ripped KDKA back when he was at the Trib. Shows that all that matters in this business is $.

    1. DJ says:

How about the passage of time, apologies by one or both sides, reasonableness and burying the axe as possible explanations?
      .
      Life’s too short.

      1. IronWicki says:

Or maybe it’s about ratings and money. Which we all know DK will deliver on both…DKs the man. Just sayin

  3. Oshie says:

Does ABC/ESPN own the SEC channel ? Brent Musburger and Jesse Palmer are doing the Texas A&M/South Carolina game on the network.

    1. Milo Hamilton says:

Yes. Brent has been farmed out to the SEC Network. No more ABC/ESPN for him.

      1. Oshie says:

Who is the top college announcer at ABC/ESPN now, Milo ? Fowler ?

I guess Disney won’t rest until they own the entire Western Hemisphere.

Love that college football is back.

      2. Milo Hamilton says:

It’s Fowler. His contract was up so he stomped his feet, held his breath & eventually got his way. Dave Pasch & Bob Wischusen are already on their roster & run rings around Fowler as far as play by play goes. But they’ve got NFL gigs & travel prevents them from night games.

      3. -3

Well Milo – worse things could happen – the SEC is just a notch below the NFL – Brent has more money than he can ever spend and chance to own something – pretty cool actually.

And Oshie – as long as the SEC is what it is – Brent is the top college announcer ;-)

      4. Oshie says:

Thanks, Milo. As long as Sam Ponder is still somewhere, I’m OK.

      5. Milo Hamiltom says:

        John,

Whaddya know about this Ethan Hemer ?

      6. Jim S. says:

I see the replay of that game is on ESPNU late tonight & again tomorrow.

        Where is Herbstreit now?

      7. @Stiller_Steve says:

Great that makes it so much easier for him to have access to all the SEC QB’s girlfriends.

  4. Oshie says:

Hemer comes from a small Wisconsin town. Was a walk on at Madison and ended up tying the school record for games played. Tremendous work ethic and very focused. Looks like the Steelers have him playing a bit heavier than he did for the Badgers. Read he went to a Bucs game.

    1. Milo Hamilton says:

Appreciate it John. I knew you could help.

  5. Milo Hamilton says:

Gateway High School’s Dayonne Nunley with the tackle on the opening kickoff. Oh those guys named Dayonne from Gateway. I mean, I think it’s pronounced the same. :)

      It’s close.

  6. chethejet says:

    nice crowd

    1. IronWicki says:

They should move everyone down to the field level between the 30′s like they do for the WPIAL games.

Can’t blame folks from staying away tonight. It’s the 4th preseason game.

  7. pattonbb says:

    Horrible challenge, coach.

  8. Milo Hamilton says:

Tonight’s the night bubble guys come up with mysterious injuries. Martavis Bryant goes off to get looked at.

    1. Milo Hamilton says:

      Shoulder. Won’t return. Scholarship #1 ?

  9. Carlos Danger says:

Just when I thought I had seen the worst of Landry Jones this preseason, he takes his terrible play to a whole new level.

  10. Milo Hamilton says:

The competition committee had a hastily arranged conference call this week. There were 2 flags in the 1st quarter. Both on punts. Draw your own conclusions.

  11. Dave G says:

Just saw the tweet about the USAirways ad at Heinz Field. Ummmm… Throwback Thursday?

  12. Dejan Kovacevic says:

Maybe today’s column should have been about Landry instead. Jarvis is a human splash play suddenly.

    1. muzzled_hockeymonster says:

After whiffing on a tackle that led to big gain.

  13. Macchamp74 says:

And they call this Pro Football??

  14. Dejan Kovacevic says:

    Shoot me now. Hard.

    1. Macchamp74 says:
      -1

At least you did not have to pay for a ticket. :)

    2. Carlos Danger says:

This is a tough game to watch. Interested to see what you can take from it to write a column about.

  15. muzzled_hockeymonster says:

    wow

  16. muzzled_hockeymonster says:

4th n 2 call..what was that? Have they ever had landry roll out? Perfect time for bootleg. Snoop Dogg for OC!!!

  17. muzzled_hockeymonster says:

    85 looks like a player…so atleast there’s that.

  18. Milo Hamilton says:

3 or 4 more personal foul penalties, and maybe we can kick a field goal.

  19. Dejan Kovacevic says:

And that, my friends, is one hour and 23 minutes of our lives that neither we nor the game-clock operator will ever get back.

  20. IronWicki says:

I’m going to re-watch some Brent Morel highlights. Hopefully, I’ll fell better for it.

  21. Milo Hamilton says:

That vote of confidence by Tomlin at his presser the other day for Brad Wing might have been just what the doctor ordered.

  22. muzzled_hockeymonster says:

They should simply call the game and do oklahoma drills for the crowd.

  23. muzzled_hockeymonster says:

    CB should’ve given bigger cushion.

  24. Milo Hamilton says:

Landry Jones worst nightmare – they’re letting Brendon Kay play.

    1. DJ says:

      Kay?
      .
      Oh, Kay.

  25. DJ says:

    Photo above is stunning.
    .
Getty Images quality from a phone?

    1. Milo Hamilton says:

For those out of towners that frequent the blog, the weather is that beautiful here every single day.

      1. Wild Bill says:

Really, Milo….I grew up out there.

      2. DJ says:

Yes, and with global warming we’ll soon have a beach.
        .
Oceanfront lots will move briskly so hurry.

      3. Milo Hamilton says:

Priced to move ! We’ll call it The Inner Banks.

      4. DJ says:

Yes! We’ll need IBX oval bumper stickers.

      5. Milo Hamilton says:

If we’re going to get this off the ground you’re going to have to change your avatar.

      6. DJ says:

        I’ll borrow Drew’s.

      7. Milo Hamilton says:

        Who ? ;)

      8. DJ says:

With a slightly more garish tie, you’ve got the perfect avatar for slick land sales pitchman.

  26. DJ says:

Can’t wait to Pens season starts and more preseason games.
    .
    #addiction

  27. Carlos Danger says:

Kay looks way more comfortable than Jones.

  28. Jim S. says:

You guys were mentioning football announcers up above. I have caught some Padres games on the Extra Innings Pkg this year. Dick Enberg is still calling games & sounds great. I think he’s 79. Sounds exactly the same as he always has. He might outlast Vin.

    1. DJ says:

Jim, kindly observe the protocol. No place for baseball on a Steelers preseason game thread.

      1. Jim S. says:

Well, technically Enberg has done a lot of football also. ;-)

      2. theplanisworking says:

Enberg, Gowdy, ….. announcers that were/are timeless.

Compare them to dreck like Collinsworth. :(

      3. Jim S. says:

And Phil Simms as well, plan. Brutal.

    2. muzzled_hockeymonster says:

Enberg makes me think of tennis. Stop it Jim. :)

      1. Jim S. says:

I heard Mad Dog Russo yesterday say that Enberg will be doing the US Open this weekend, Monster. Enberg used to also announce game shows a million yrs ago.

      2. theplanisworking says:

        Jim:
        .
        SPORTS CHALLENGE !!!!

        :)

      3. Jim S. says:

Was that it, plan? Good memory. I believe he also did UCLA hoops back then.

      4. theplanisworking says:

Yes, he did the UCLA-Notre Dame game in 73 or 74, that ended the 88 game winning streak.
        .
Enberg is a classic. I remember he used to do the Tournament of Roses Parade for years.
        .
He has also done Rose Bowls, baseball, and Olympics.

  29. Milo Hamilton says:

Bill Cowher would keep Ross Ventrone. No doubt about it.

  30. theplanisworking says:

Well, another year of 4 worthless games over.
Don’t know much more about the team than 4 weeks ago. but the picture at the top of the blog is beautiful, so there is a huge plus.

  31. WVStarship says:

Let me get this straight: People paid real honest-to-goodness cash money to watch this crapfest tonight? Why didn’t you just flush it down the toilet? Same thing, and it would’ve been over more quickly.

    1. DormontyDawson says:

If you want the season tix, you’ve got to buy the sucky tix. More proof that NFL cares only about TV ratings. Fans who actually attend the games? Go pluck yourselves.

    2. Wild Bill says:

This is why we will soon have the 18 game season that the players didn’t want – except they’ve now figured out there might be more money in it for them.

  32. Jim S. says:

A&M hammers the old ball coach & S Carolina 52-28. That’s the risk you take playing a key conference game in Aug vs a strong program. Apparently, there is life after Johnny Football.

  33. DJ says:

Before tonight, wasn’t sure Wing had a prayer.
