A weekly look at what’s new and what’s coming on our site …
• The overwhelming majority of offers I’ve had to help with the site — say, oh, 99.9 percent — have been offers to write or report. And while that’s certainly taken in the right spirit, I’m going to be the only writer on here for the foreseeable future.
But the other 0.1 percent, wow, have they made a difference. Proud to say this morning that we’re adding our first two paid staffers: Annie Shean of PensNation will handle our WordPress issues on the site, and Alex Messmer of Pens Pride will handle our graphics.
Both are younger folks and, as you can guess from their affiliations, diehard Penguins fans who came to us of their own volition when, frankly, we needed it most and bailed us out. I’ll appreciate that forever and look forward to having them be part of the site for a long time.
• A similar shout to Jeff Schroeffel of Pittsburgh Internet Consulting. He subscribed to the site early, saw everything that was wrong with it related to search-engine optimization, reached out to us and put us on the right path. It was great to meet the man on Friday, and I look forward to doing business with his company.
• The app has one more day of testing remaining — today, Saturday — and it will be sent to Apple for approval Monday. This is like having a third child for us at this point. Including the excitement.
• Just a note about commenting: No one pays to comment here. The subscription price accounts for the main content and the delivery of that content. If there are any issues with commenting or getting along or anything like that, the easy option is to not comment at all.
• As of this writing, we’re at 5,104 subscriptions. The site turned three months old Thursday, so we were well past the halfway mark of our full-year goal of 10,000 before reaching the quarter point. Our unique page views are rapidly approaching the million mark, at 948,369 as of 11 p.m. Friday.
• We do gift subscriptions, and it works like this: Buy a subscription, whatever level, as if it were for you. Then, email us at [email protected] with the name and email address of the person on the receiving end. We’ll do the rest and, once it’s done, we’ll send a fun graphic note to welcome them to the site.
