Penguins 5, Senators 4, SO

Are you logged in? I shouldn't need to be clearing your comments.

Assume cos of the hooking call last night?
Largely the result of an idiot play by Adams, but can't punish THAT guy!

Just logged in again. Seems to have fixed the problem. Thanks

Seems like the hooking penalty was hardly the most egregious penalty he has taken.

In all honesty that was a weak call, so was the hook after that on the Wings.

No, but that would be cool

Yeah, I don't really think so either, but it would be awesome if suddenly they broke out a dominant PP, like they had going early on, as a major weapon for the playoffs

I like the colors and design but that big O on the front looks like a big zero.
But what the heck do I know.

It's simple, it's elegant and it's classy.

It strikes a chord with me for some reason. The Pens' sweater does it for me for obvious reasons, but that Sens' sweater is just aesthetically gorgeous to me.

They are afraid to scratch Craiggers.
Why, we can only guess!

More like Alexei Morozov.

No, Morozov didn't stink. He had a very nice career in Russia. Beau Bennett stinks.

How many games has Bennett played?

Not every player is a Sid or Geno to come in and light the league on fire. Got to give the guy a couple of years to see if he can progress and adjust.

Maybe BB could be MVP of the KHL.

Jury is still out on BB, except for Milo.

Rash knee jerk judgements are what I do. I hope he proves me wrong. But it will probably be somewhere else. Until then, stinks.

This isn't reality Milo, it's Pittsburgh.

Good thing the Leafs fired a Randy Carlyle. Fixed everything.

You see the Hockey News cover of Kessel, all they needed was to put him behind bars. That being said if they are gonna have a fire sale, would it be possible to get JVR outta there?

Is the Hockey News really the National Inquirer in disguise? What a trash move that was

I don't watch the Leafs unless they play us but I seriously doubt Kessel underachieving is all that's wrong with them. The Phaneuf contract was a HUGE overpay, by several million per year.

Johnston uses the 1-2-2 a lot. It stinks. They're lousy at it.

Perhaps they should work on that at some point.

All teams use a passive fore-check throughout a game. The Pens making it their preferred system is a misuse of personnel.

I'm not saying to change their system just as something else to get teams to have to work against. I remember a game back when Therrien was coaching and they went into Philly and in the preface interview with Potash he said they were gonna play a "little Montreal style Trap". The flyers looked clueless and the Pens shut them out.

Sorry, change system to fore-check, all teams have a preferred fore-check. You do see a lot of 1-2-2, if you want to be a trap just changing the positioning of the skaters. I don't think it makes sense to collect power forward types and have them standing in the neutral zone. If the Penguins want to run it exclusively they can, see Rangers when the got a lead last playoffs Vigneault just had them fore checked less aggressively and clogged the zone.

I remember Therrien breaking out "old Montreal trap" in his dying days when he couldn't figure out when the Penguins where getting out-shot on a nightly basis.

I think you are mis-remembering Therrien went to the "old Montreal trap," which is just a passive 1-2-2 in his dying days. I don't think it makes sense to collect power forward types to have them standing and the blue line swinging there sticks. But again all teams trap at times,

That 4th goal looked like they did just that. Kunitz intercepts feeds it to Sid and they score.

Yeah the Pens had been sitting back much of 2nd and 3rd periods, hockey is fluid, the tactics can change on the fly.

The hook isn't why he's scratched. More on Insider tonight.

Not seeing it, my friend.

I'm sorry, that should have read - it was only a matter of time before this great Ottawa juggernaut awakened.

Found him.

You did? Where? Oh, you mean the harmless uncontested 20 ft wrist shot right in the chest of the goalie?

He did collect the turnover and feed Sid for the 4th goal.

Exactly. It's awful. They should never use it. Sens sliced through it like knife through butter.

Ok they stink at it, guess they better outscore everyone, and pray they hold on.

Pens haven't fore-checked hard for much of the 2nd and 3rd. Hindsight being 20/20 and all, I thought the bigger issue which seems to a regular occurrence is breakout falls apart against an aggressive fore-check which Sens did in the 3rd..

16 Senator shots on goal in the third. It's not all Greiss.

You're both right.

Well the Pens pretty much didn't help him in the 3rd, I think the 4th goal was weak. That was also your shutdown pair that parted like the Red Sea on that goal! Just sayin.

(Fleury)

How about now?

Wait, it's already over?

The inability to hold a lead, etc. I'm just not as optimistic as you. Just too inconsistent. To each their own opinions.

they were leading when the game ended. that's what's important, right? go ask a Nascar fan how important it is to lead almost the whole way if they don't take the checkered flag ahead of the rest...

tried to go 5 hole, it happens he's human.

Come on man he had 2 goals tonight, give the guy a break.

Several guys were dragging pianos during third period including Sid and Geno.

Beau had glue on his backside during OT.

Brandon was largely missing.

Man, does Peron have a quick shot!

Go home happy.

Stuart

You understand that how nervous a team makes its fan base doesn't count in the standings, right?

They arrived on back-to-back nights against a rested opponent and won.

My condolences. :)

They are 21-2 when leading after 3

I do, and a win is good, but this game should have been over at 3-0. We will find out this week if they are competing against quality teams with Chicago and Wash. up next. I don't know if Fleury stops all those goals or not, would have been nice to not find out though.

+25 DK

I would think they'd be undefeated when leading after 3. Just sayin...

so now, wins aren't as important as how we get them? lol

Probably the atheists.

Did u see when he stoned Ryan on the penalty shot, and stopped a breakaway a few minutes before. The guy plays like 3 games per month, he is not the scapegoat tonight for the 3rd period collapse. He should have had the 4th one though for sure.

But I know...it's Kunitz/Adams/Sill's etc. fault that it went to a shootout

Um, Scott? You forgot HCMJ's cluelessness and the fact that Harrington/Farnham/Rust/Zatkoff are all in WB/S.

Can we stop with Farnham? He is not good

No argument from me - there's a reason career minor-leaguers are career minor-leaguers.

My point (and I assume Scott's) was that the usual whipping boys in the comments section aren't and never were the problem.
