Our third and newest major sponsor for the site: Riverhounds.
I feel compelled to make a post about this mostly out of appreciation for the team’s support of our site, but also because, well, they’re a team I cover for this site. And that sort of thing, in general, can and has raised eyebrows anywhere it’s happened, even though it happens a lot in this day and age of media/sports cross-pollination.
Our agreement with the team is such that coverage, whether praising or critical or none at all, isn’t conditional. If the team doesn’t like what it reads or doesn’t read here, it will be free to file any and all complaints in the same circular file available to the Steelers, Penguins and Pirates. It works the same way for agreements between the Steelers, Penguins and Pirates and both local newspapers — and every one of those entities is connected to one of those papers to some degree — and it will work that way here.
As one wise man once advised, it’s like church and state. There’s business, and there’s coverage.
The Riverhounds’ deal, for full disclosure, calls for one of the three rotations on our app, as well as a display ad on all of our pages. And that’s it. The coverage will be the same as it’s always been, going back two years to the attention I paid to soccer while still at the Tribune-Review. It will be no more, no less, and to repeat, it will come with the same critical eye as before. If that ever becomes an issue, the sponsorship will be ended, plain and simple.
Some of the advertising, as you can see on the page right now, won’t have anything to do with the team but with events at Highmark Stadium, such as the upcoming Steve Miller Band concert.
In short, welcome to yet another supporter of our site, and thank you.
Oh, and expect and another semi-related announcement on this front soon, one that will involve all of our subscribers, actually. Can’t wait for this one.
