Probably the one that doesn't belong in the starting rotation, unfortunately

If Locke doesn't deserve to be, then neither does Worley. Question is which one goes first?

If Locke comes up with a bad performance tonight, then Worley should be given another chance to start. I think he has better overall stuff than Locke. I think Locke should be on a short leash tonite. Can't afford to give up a lot of runs and then hope for a big comeback
The guy who should be plugged in as our every day shortstop - will be interesting to see if he can keep it up - he is showing as a plus defender also on Fangraphs.
Whoa, DK, great pic "our city". Not that you have not taken some nice pics in the the past , but methinks you have had some help from one of your new hires. lol
Spectacular shot!
And that's why you can't afford to waste good pitching starts in April... When the bats are working the arms aren't and vice versa. No help on the horizon with Kingham having elbow troubled too.
It's also why you don't wait until the trading deadline to fill out your rotation.

This is the 40th game tonight, so NH and Hurdle will have their first "status of the team" meeting.

Cutch plays pretty deep in CF, but here's hoping he had a GOOD LOOK at how Torii Hunter approached that at bat with the bases loaded. No "pull swing for the fences" on an outside pitch... just a discplined hard-strike to the opposite field clearing the bases. Great approach and one that Bucs fans haven't seen very often from their MVP this season.
bingo. we can churn the blog pages all around the edges of this team (especially all the enamor for Tony Sanchez and clamor to get Corey Hart put out to pasture) but this team is where it is because Cutch and increasingly Walker have become an easy out. .500 ball is actually doing well if Cutch and Neil continue this way.

So much for that great breakout coming for Cutch.

An American League pitcher batting. Locke throws him 6 pitches, 1 in the strike zone. And it was promptly grounded through the left side for a single.
that's Locke's MO. When he is going well, he pounds the strike zone and isn't afraid to go inside, etc. When he is awful he is afraid of contact and nibbles and tries to survive out there vs. just attacking. With Locke in 2nd half form in mid May, it's time to pull the plug.
Credit to Locke... unlike Francisco he has grinded to keep this game a game... and save the bullpen at the same time. I still think it's time to go with someone else in the rotation but give credit where credit is due.
Just turned the game on....looks like I haven't missed anything out of the ordinary for this team this season. Locke got hit hard early and the offense is still O-ffensive.
ya, that's it. this team wins 10 more games this season easy if Hurdle just paced back and forth in the dugout clapping and patting guys on the backside. make sure you get Huntington this info pronto...maybe there is still time to save today's game.

I meant to get up and argue a call instead of letting Cervelli get rung up on outside strikes or umps not calling clear interference. Get your players backs.

TOP OF THE ORDER UP IN THE 6th..... TIME FOR NEIL AND CUTCH TO DO SOMETHING.....
MJG was awesome and I loved him growing up but Troy is my all time favorite. MJG was the cog that started the 70's dynasty and was nearly unstoppable but I think Troy changed the modern game like no other player ever has in my opinion. Really can't be wrong liking either one.

Pirates 2014 record after 40 games was 18-22 which will be matched tonight. June can't come soon enough (Pirates 67-40 the last 4 Junes).
I love this team we can never do thing easy. Cutch hits the tying homer we get two guys on and can't capitalize. The cards would have put up 3 more runs there.
I keep hearing how the Cards cant hold up after losing Wainright, meanwhile all they do is keep winning and laugh the Mets out of their own stadium tonight.
Is it selective perception on my part, or does seem like Pirate pitchers frequently blow away first two outs, then struggle mightily to get a third out?
The Pirates have to win one of these extra innings games sometime?
Right???
Related: I didn't know the eccentric qualities of the Steelers migrated across the Three Rivers to PNC Park, where they can be world beaters one series and split with the Phillies/possibly lose a series to the Twins.
He is awful. Another bargain sign by wonder boy Neil. He has done real well with Hart, Cervelli,Bastardo, Liz-- good job Neal. Plus, keeping Locke and Worley.
Three and one-half games behind in the wild card race. Cardinals are not likely to go into collapse mode so first place hopes are fading quicky and we are only in May.
Think about this. When Morton is added to the team they will probably send Scahill to the Indy because he has options remaining. That means stiffs like Liz and Bastardo will remain on the team. So much for putting your best 25 guys on the big league roster
Wonder how soon this mindbending impotency in the clutch is going to start noticably affecting both the gate and local tv ratings. Hurdle can sing kumbaya all he wants but fans are only going to volunteer for abuse for just so long before they start to say to hell with these chumps.
I remember 2 years ago, when people were willing to put up with Pedro because when he got hot, his bat could carry the offense through a series. There was genuine excitement when he smacked a HR because it got people talking - "Is he about to go on a terror?"
We haven't seen that in one full season+40 games. Will it EVER happen again? With his heft bulging like never before, his confidence crushed after last season's despicably bad fielding issues, and an agent breathing down his neck to "cash in," all signs point to no.
0-6 in extra inning games with 1 run in 17 extra innings which is really bad considering you are facing guys deep in the other team's bullpen. Now 2-16 when the score 3 runs or less. Record identical to 2014 after 40 games and ended May 25-30 before going 17-10 in June.
