Awesome on passing 14000 DK! Well deserved. Wish I could make the bash today. Be with you in spirit from Colorado.

We know that 10,000 was the goal for year one. What's the goal for year two?

Not really looking at it like that. Our short-term focus is on getting to 20,000 as soon as possible. That puts us in a solid position to afford our new hires and all the extensive travel. From there, who knows?

I appreciate the transparency you allow to the site, DK. I always hate when a writer, DJ or news anchor type moves on and it is just like they never existed in the first place. I do wish that I could make it to the bash, I'd like to thank you in person for the entertainment! Maybe I'll be able to make year 2 or 3 or 20!

I too appreciate the transparency. It's one of the ways you're doing it differently, and it's better

Indeed. It helps keep the feeling that we're a family/community here and not simply subscribers.

this does feel like a family #DKOPSfamily

Also in the DC area...both comments hilarious and spot-on.

so, for those of us cheapskates who bought a 1-yr subscription that is due to renew soon, will we get a reminder? i'm not sure which of my 17 cards i used to sign up, and many were compromised (and a new #issued) in the interim. want to make sure i don't lose access even for an hour!

Yes, Matt, and thank you. It's a little complicated if you're one of the many -- and blessed -- people who signed up in the very first two days. We didn't have auto-renewal on until the third day. Those people will be hearing from me via email early next week to make sure all is well. Otherwise, you're on auto-renewal and will be fine.

thanks Dejan, but my point is that, though i may be on auto-renewal, that may not work for me as my card used to sign up may no longer be valid. it might, but i'm honestly not sure. looking forward to tonight! nice coming together of events with MK.

The transparency is nice but it's pretty harsh to hire someone and realize money would be better spent on a Steelers beat writer and fire that person after 3 weeks. There's a huge difference between being a great reporter (which you certainly are) and someone responsible for running and growing a business. I'm sure you'll figure out the latter sooner rather than later.

You attached a correlation between baseball and football, not me. That isn't the case. We've been looking for a football writer all along, regardless of the baseball situation. Football had nothing to do with this. Can't stress that enough.

Coincidence then I suppose. But with a potentially historic playoff run coming up, I liked the idea of a Pirates beat reporter. For what it's worth, I really enjoyed his writing style

Well, I hope you'll settle for me doing most of it. Because that's the plan.

A little harsh, when I imagine you don't have all the facts...hard to be critical of this site

Hello all. I'm feelin bad that I can't make the bash, but hope you all have a good one. I'll be re-upping for my next year soon. Really enjoy the site, hope it doesn't get too big too soon. I for one would be satisfied with you DK, Josh, and Matt for my modest money. Thanks for nearly one full year of coverage, and keep up the good work.

Regards to all,

Stuart

I agree. The intimacy of the site is one of its draws for me. Getting too many writers and making it more like a traditional paper except electronic could compromise that. Im paying for DK and staying for the rest. As long as DK continues to provide the same level of contribution it will be a success. Thats no knock on Josh or Matt or even Nates short stint. Just the ultimate compliment to DKs.

About that name change.... The fact that you are a guy sitting in your basement writing about sports is what makes this situation different and unique (and why I actually paid money when I never subscribe for anything). I think you should embrace the name as a reminder to everyone that this is different and not old school media.

The only time I ever buy a paper is when I travel because I'm either too cheap to onboard wifi or don't trust its reliability. I know it would introduce sharing concerns, but it would be awesome if we could export app content to local iPhone to read offline

I believe if I open the app and the article while connected to wifi, later on when not connected, that content is still there. Just can't load the comments and such.

You got that right DK. I was on my summer vacation last year and one day it got me while I was browsing Trib "Where's Dejan?!?!?". After short panic attack I googled and found out about this "little" project. I've been lurking here ever since the beginning, daily I suppose. Few days ago I went legit, lunatic level of course. Proud to be a member.

Looks like then there will be continued daily PBC coverage. Please, please keep that up. It's why I subscribed almost from Day One. And I have not been let down lately.
