Sawchick is on MLB Network right now with Brian Kenney hawking his book and analytics.

DK:

Consider taking the short train ride from Citi Field to Astoria for some legit Greek food!

"One more ballgame by Muffler Row"
This line from the Monday planner piqued my curiosity so...
I took a ride on Google Earth Street View...wow!

I know NY is a big city, but does every person that needs a muffler buy one next to Citi Field??
What an ugly place for a ballyard, No neighborhood at all around it. Scary looking place to be walking around in the dark.
No illegal activities going on there. What is "muffler" a code word for?

I feel like I am going to watch my tin-eared child sing in the middle school musical. Pray for Happ.

Any word on Harrison and/or Mercer?

Ja on the mound, an a auto loss.

Awesome...thanks for digging up this stuff. The base running quotes are gold.

What!? A 2 seamer at 98+? Unreal.

We are heading to the game right now. If there are any other DK subscribers or pirates fans here, would love to meet you guys. We will be in second 128 row 10

Prayers go out to Bosox manager John Farrell who has been diagnosed with Stage 1 Lymphoma...

It's nice to be able to root for good people.

Free American flag sticker with purchase at fixmuffler dot com.

And marketing pitch it is clear:

"You wait while we fix quickly."

"We are fast and good at very competitive price."

I watched, DK, I watched!!!! Just let me keep my subscription please :) Really neat looking ballpark!

Still no Pirate lineup and must be head off to my game. Have a good night all

DK: loved the video. I've never been to Shea/Citi, but have been to the US Open and to Laguardia a ton of times. Always thought Mets were better served moving to a new area, though land in Manhattan exorbitant and moving farther out on "Laahng Is-laaaand" is inconceivable. But as it is, its a nice stadium plugged in to a strange area.

So shame on me but I typically dont watch the videos as I am typically not in a place where I can have the volume up to hear the interviews. So the end of this video is the first time I saw the new black gold and red logo. Totally love it.

Enjoyed the video, DK. Interesting neighborhood dynamic.

I'll be there Saturday and Sunday - bringing my kids and my dad tomorrow, and just my dad and I Sunday afternoon. With my birthday coming up on Monday - hopefully I get to raise a couple Jolly Rogers...

Think the same company who designed PNC designed Citi. When you're on the promenade there it really feels like it.

Thankfully you got the chop shops in the video. I can't wait to show them to my son when we go to the game on Sunday.

ok. I watched...and read. love the last bit. loved the response about stolen bases as well.
thanks as usual!

Love the video DK. Very cool to see/hear the batting practice. Well done on the editing.

That's professional quality video DK. But how do you know if watched?

I watched. Honest.

Intrigued by the Jared Hughes teaser

Very good video. Please do it more often!
Bell seems to be picking things up at AAA!!!
Even taking away Alvarez errors for the season and using the average for 1B, Pirates are in the bottom third of NL fielding for teams. It's a team problem. If you combine the running mistakes and the failure to hold the runner on steals and the fielding, you have one conclusion: lack of focus. Still a wonderful team to watch.

There sure have a lot of muffler shops

That video was neat. Haven't been there yet, so it enhances the story to see your first-hand view. Be good luck!

You crack me up. But I watched. Just in case....

OK Dad I watched it. I liked it. Can I keep my subscription ?

What's the deadline for watching that video? I mean, my subscription is still good now. Plus, I haven't had my coffee yet and that is in the contract.

So much for new stadiums creating pre and post game drinking and dining options.

colon is not from pittsburgh

This could be one of those times when #18 catches fire hitting home runs. He did it last year. He could easily get to 20 jacks still this year.

The sound of the crack of the bat at the end was awesome. Haven't heard that in a while with no background noise.

DK

Don't post to often but lI've the coverage Great panoramic view of the Mets field. And as a father doesn't get any better than the inights like AJ playing catch with his son. Thanks.

I knew it. They worked on something with Happ - that's why he skipped that start -something small but still..
(Like the video DK, am I good to continue?)

Cubs win again.

This, too, is because he's from Pittsburgh. Love it.

I laughed when I suggested that Walker be the guy to move to first if you're going to put someone with no experience there (because he has a history of flexibility and would open a spot for Harrison at second), and the next comment was that I was saying that because he's from Pittsburgh.

Yeah, no.

Video was lovely; I like the chop shops.

Happ fitting right in with other Bucco starters.... when it comes to his bunting

SNY just noted that Neil is from Pittsburgh....who knew?

I've seen lots of pitchers over the years that looked like Colon. Of course, they threw underhand with a 10 foot arc. Dude can still pitch, though.

This may get ugly quickly.

11 batters and Happ has given up 5 hits and a walk. Not good.

Stewart with a Pedro-like throw there

11 batters and Happ has given up 5 hits and a walk. Not good.

Bullpen needs to be ready by the 5th inning tonight. Lot of pitches so far

Some good work there from happ. Credit where credit is due.

Wow, the Mets really are that bad against lefties.

Wow...tip of the cap to Happ!

Why don't the Pirates bunt on Colon. This guys got to go 300 lbs. he can't move. Its a wonder he can make it back to the dugout after an inning.......

This day in Pirates history...
Mentioned "Rocky Nelson"...
Old Fart ears perked up, aint heard that one in a long time!

Cutch was sure that was a hit so he kept going... Good job

DPdro

JA Happ is a combination of Clayton Kershaw and Jon Lester...

OK, who else in the pool had Happ with 4 scoreless?

Who had 6 pitches for Happ in the 4th inning?

A pitcher's duel...who knew??

Remember when everyone thought a JA Happ start meant the sky was falling? Calm down

DK very funny.

Happ making Locke look bad by getting past the 5th inning blowup.

Thanks for the bunt Gregory - I told you the guy cant move!!!!

3 hits, 80 or so pitches-Happ-y!

I don't get why Aramis is back at cleanup.

The Pirates' average Baseball IQ is substantially below average.

Clearly all the ABs against soft tossing Lyons last night didn't prepare us for Colon tonight.

If you're Happ-y and you know it. Oh darn.

@ Tom P, as far as I am concerned you can be the manager.

Wow, Quick Hook Hurdle. Nice 5 from Happ. 6 woulda been better, but still...

Inside and maybe off the plate. Hell of a swing by Cespedes.

n

Way to clean it up Jared....Jung Ho time...

Nice job by Happ. Tough when you know you can't give up more than one run. On the other hand, how about knocking Colon out of the game by getting some hits.

A much better effort than anyone could expect.

Nice video, liked it. To your 6th Q in the Five Q's.... I practically live for baseball coverage. Love all sports (except NBA) but baseball is by far my favorite. Thanks for the coverage @DK

5 hits off a 4.58 ERA guy tonight

Bartolo Colon is an "athlete" as much as Landry Jones is a quarterback.

Yep this team really needs another arm - 3 runs - 2 runs - 1 run in three of the last four games...

No problem with the offense here...

And what a shame - Pedro once again allows the Mets to tie the game with a hanging curve - pitiful - how do they put him on the field when he does things like this.

just subscribed. love it.

And we could have bundled up a few prospects and one of our OF folks and had a legit power hitting corner OF to track down the Cards - but that would have been silly - stupid - we need those prospects to get all those top farm system rankings.

This is the kind if game the
Bucs struggled mightily with in the first part of the year - tie road games in late innings. At one point their record was something like 1-8 in games tied on the road entering the 9th. Need to take advantage of top of the order right here.

Happ did well time for the offense to do something here

What is capacity? They claim 38,000 tonight.

I can't complain with what they got from Happ tonight. He's never going to be a guy who gets you more than 5 or 6 innings. You just have to hope he keeps you in the game. Tonight, he did that.

Could be free baseball tonight.

DK. I watched the entire video.

EL TORO!!!!!

Nice! What's that saying about a blind squirrel?

big stab there by Pedro

Of all the people to make a big play.

Crickets from LL about Pedro...😎lets go O!

Ramirez and Alvarez flashing leather tonight

Bastardo throwing 95mph. Methinks the gun is reading a bit high at Citi Field tonight.

El Toro with the nice pick. Solid defensive effort tonight overall

Happ pitches okay, the way you'd want a ML-caliber injury replacement to, and there's 174 comments as I type this.

If Happ had given up 5 runs in 3 innings, I'd be it would be 574 comments. ;)

Way to go Pedro

The commentators on ESPN called the Pirate pitchers inability to hold runners and slow deliveries to the plate with runners on (and they were timing the deliveries) an "organizational issue" because it permeates the entire staff. Of course they must be wrong because the best farm system in baseball, albeit one which produces a bluechip prospect once a decade, couldn't possibly have an organizational problem.

Why don't other staffs have this problem if the answer is as simple as Hurdle claims? When a team like the Dodgers -- last in MLB in stolen bases -- is easily and repeatedly stealing bases against the Pirates, the problem is much more complicated -- and serious -- than Hurdle says. And when Hurdle gives a b.s. answer
like that, he needs to be called on it.

Decent pitching Happ and good defense Pedro -- what is going on tonight..

Should be out

Credit where due - two great plays by Pedro

Who would have thought with 6 teams getting to go to the playoffs, that there's a good chance in the National League there will be at least 1, maybe 2 teams with 90 or more wins sitting at home at the end of the season? You'd have to go back to 1993 (the 2-division days) for that in the NL!

Another nice play from Pedro

Pedro with two nicely executed defensive plays.

Good job Pedro. Can we all just agree there was NO better option out there than Pedro??
Pitchers are another matter.

Anybody notice Cuddyer's bat totally covered in pine tar?

All of a sudden Pedro is in the gold glove conversation

OK. Let's get a run or two.

anyone else tired of Mets fans screaming like every fly ball is a homerun.

Perhaps all Pedro Alverez needed was a new glove. I still believe you cant trade him. He'll be fine. Play the man the rest of the year.

I don't care what anyone says..I was pleasantly surprised at how good Happ pitched...hope he can keep it up...bobafrye

BeAutiful!!

Great call by Hurdle to put the hit-and-run on there. We criticize him enough here, credit where it's due.

Polanco will shut them up.

Baseball Jesus!!

Gregory!!

POLANCO ... Clutch hitter EXTRAORDINAIRE!

Absolutely DK! Hurdle pinch runs for Stew with Marte and then pinch hits Cervelli who takes over for Stew. Marte moves up on the hit and run. Great moves by Clint!

Grow a pair and pitch to Cutch

This should be Kangs spot in the order now with the bases loaded!!! HURDLED!

I'll take a 3-1 lead! Awesome to see that hit and run worked out. Could be been disastrous.

Nicely done Rammer!!

Nice AB 17. Just elevate the ball, and he did.

That's 2, would like another please

Good fundamental baseball... That's all we ask for

No, really, Sending Cervelli out on deck, then Marte out to pinch run.... Marte getting the big jump and Cervelli getting the big hit... (also, hi there, Chris Stewart....good job all night)....

Then Polanco showing that even with a clumsy whack of a swing he looks like a guy who is going to have a very big payday in the not too distant future....

......also, I love the Korean following Kang has. He has to be an amazingly unusual "rookie."

That's why they got Ramirez. Professional at-bat right there. And kudos to Clint for great managerial moves!

Statistical oddity with Cutch getting 5 at bats without the ball being put into play

Never easy. Would have been too much to ask for a 1-2-3 inning.

Mark the Shark is being hit hard tonight. He has me a little on edge with Cespedes up now.

Two more outs.

No worries with the Shark !!!!!!!

Is Tony Pena behind the plate?

RUN TO FIRST

It's never easy, is it?

We Had Em ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL The Way !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was wrong, it wasn't a auto loss.

Big win. Good fundamental baseball. Good managing. Ramirez with the GW RBI with a professional AB.

RAISE IT!!!!

Gutty shark performance - that was a quality road win

ElCamino with the win!

Mets are 0-11 vs. bucs, cubs.

Wait thought Happ guaranteed a loss?

Nicely done. Another clean game with just enough offense.

Playoff magic number now 43 pending Giants result

Great road win
Hopefully more good fundamental bb to come

W!

Thank you for the workman-like effort gentleman. Tip of the cap to Hurdle as well. (DK- I appreciate the description of Ramirez's sac fly as "professionally conducted.") Good stuff all the way around- Raise it!

No Happ-less puns tonight.

All the whipping boys live to be whipped another day. See ya guys tomorrow.

Only 270 comments .. Where was everyone?

Great road win in extras. Happy with a quality night!!

JA might be ok until AJ comes back.

Happ 13 ks in 9.2 innings. I'm not saying he's going to be Cy Young, but getting batters to swing and miss is a trait that most number 5 starters lack (and the current 3 and 4 starters lack for the Bucs).

Do teams reseed after 1 game playoff? I.e do Pirates automatically play STL If they have the 2nd best record in baseball & win WC game??

Great game from Brutha Happ. Man thats cool. He was so bad before this for us and his former team. Great game Happ-y. Nice team win too in a tight game. Good work fellas!

What's Happ-ening, everyone!?

5 and 2 in the last 7 against first place teams, both losses coming against the top team in baseball. Not sure why people to continue to say the sky is falling. Lets go Bucs. Hurdle managed a great game tonight, and Pedro did what he had to do.

the video wouldn't load for me.....please don't yank my subscription!

I didn't see a second of the game but caught the 10th on my Sirius in the car. Sounded like it got a little hairy there but a great win none the less.

can't wait for the recap from dk

I know there are all kind of stats and none determine Clutch. However, if I had a choice of who I want up in game winning situations, I want Polanco and Kang. Great win tonight. JA did more than his job.

Suggestion for tonight's column headline: O Happ-y Day!

Cool video, DK. Do you edit from phone or computer? I need to learn how to this!!

Nice video DK. Would love to have seen more of the flight over Brooklyn. Nice to be able to see the Freedom Tower!
