I, for one, really embrace the baseball content. I'm an anomaly in Pittsburgh. The Steelers come a distant third in my personal pecking order among the local pro teams.

Now, for the reasons you mention, inspiration, creativity, personality and perspective can merge and produce the kind of work we see here on DK Pittsburgh Sports on a daily basis. Your VOICE has a place to flourish as well as the other writers here.

The Pirates coverage is what made me a subscriber! I was even a subscriber before Josh came onboard. The game coverage in the area before this site got to the point it was 3 paragraphs, intro, highlights, and what's next.

Penguins and Steelers are first for me and I pay for game center live in season and may pay for Steelers digital this year.

Neal becoming very popular does not surprise me. He has been very popular over at the SB Nation blog behind the steel curtain. I have enjoyed his articles there and enjoy his articles and coverage over here.

I follow Pirates through you guys and appreciate everything you do.

When MLB.tv premium goes down to 10 bucs, I will subscribe to that and watch some September ball.

Ha! Great way to end it DK! I am loving the baseball coverage. It's a shame more folks aren't tuning in to the Pirates. While their defensive foibles can drive one nuts, they sure have been entertaining this summer. Haven't missed a game yet and I am out of market! (Nor have I missed a column.)

I follow the coverage for baseball. But frankly I would not be checking multiple times a day of the squad was l performing like the 2010 team. I'd be curious if this dynamic is similar in other cities like Stl. I get the feeling it's a dynamic more prevalent to all of MLB. The demographic for the World Series is telling and should be a concern for any media involved with the sport.

So this is the second time in two days someone has asked if Bud Dupree is a bust already. I do not understand this thinking at all the guy has played one preseason game. And let's not forget that Lawrence Timmons and Martavis Bryant both had rough preseason debuts

...because Pittsburgh. That's what we do. Overanalyze on minimal amounts of data :)

DK - thanks again for everything, I'm a daily reader of the site. As a couple others have mentioned, I'm surprised about the lack of content support for the Pirates. I'm 28 (not too young, but not old either) and a fan of all Pittsburgh sports, but the Pirates are definitely first in my pecking order, followed by the Steelers then Penguins.

Could it be more a byproduct of baseball's - not just the Pirates social media platform - inability to generate interest due to the pace of the game and lack of instantaneous gratification?

Wow I'm surprised to hear that about the baseball coverage. I absolutely love it! I am 35 and grew up in Maryland. The only way I found out how the Pirates did was to stay up for the 11 o'clock news or wait to check the box score the following day. It's just insane how instantaneous and thorough coverage is these days. Makes me wonder how hard the old newspaper folk actually had to work. Thanks Dejan

Seriously having a hard time believing Bucs clicks are that far behind Pens/Steelers. I read bb articles, all the comments, then refresh it all once or twice before even thinking about fb/hockey.

The baseball coverage is what made me a three year subscriber and what keeps me coming back. I like the Steelers coverage and think the Pens stuff here has amazing depth and is helpful to me as a non-hockey guy, but I'm one reader who appreciates every Bucs article.

The only way you could make me happier is if you came to check out the Pittsburgh Thunderbirds professional ultimate frisbee team next spring when it starts its second season. Probably not gonna happen, but it's worth the 8 bucks and then some. I'm the announcer, so if you come as a fan, I'll make sure you get a brat or burger and a shout out from the booth!

Could it be that with baseball, things tend to not take off because there are 162 games and it is night after night of the same thing? Baseball is a grind.

Dejan, maybe identifying the "free content" columns so subscribers can share might help. Maybe after a solid game like tonight the column can be made available. Maybe this could generate interest. The way you intersperse videos, links, etc. might catch a younger crowd. Just an idea or two...

DK - I'm a subscriber for your baseball content. Always found it puzzling that others would care about 3rd string defensive backs pulling a hammy on the third day of training camp vs. the pulse of a tight pennant race.

This might be a dumb question, but can non-subscribers read the articles we share on Facebook? I've never shared an article simply because there doesn't seem to a point in doing so if nobody can read it. I agree with an earlier commenter that suggested flagging the free articles.

DK, count me among those who joined because of baseball (though given when your site launched, that's probably not a huge surprise). I wonder if some of the lack of Pirates support comes from the sheer number of games. Those of us who follow every word from every game probably live up to the lunatic label. It's just easier to be a casual fan in baseball, especially compared to football.

I'm more than okay with the Pens road to the cup being difficult. It creates a tougher mentality that I think will benefit them. Remember, in '09 they went 6, 7, 4, and 7 games. And battled their way in for a spot during the regular season. They've got the team, just need the confidence now.
