Willie Gay, the Steelers’ eighth-year corner, saw his NFL career revitalized in 2013 after being released by the Cardinals in March. He appeared in all 16 games, started 11 and had an interception, nine passes defensed and two forced fumbles.
Something not many know: Gay has never missed an NFL game, and his 112 consecutive games are the most of any current corner in the league.
I was over at practice today, as the four team captains were named — Ben Roethlisberger (offense), Troy Polamalu (defense), and Shaun Suisham and Robert Golden (special teams) — with Troy receiving that honor for the first time. That brought this quote from 43, which might have been the best of the camp/preseason: “The best kind of captains are those that walk out for the coin toss at the Super Bowl.”
I’ll have a full column up first thing tomorrow morning on the two players who might be the Steelers’ X factors on either side of the ball. Videos included.
