News/views: Ben says media ‘panicking’

So that's great and all Ben and Wheaton want to spend extra time getting on the same page. Is it a little disappointing to anyone else that the guy you needed to step up and take some pressure off your only real receiver and QB didnt do all this say in freaking July or August!

If you accept that Haley is going nowhere, then this team's answers to how to solve the problems are not surprising. Haley won't change the scheme. Given that, they need to focus on executing better. That approach is unlikely to succeed with a bad scheme but they're committed.

That's the thing about incompetence. When you're incompetent, it's pretty much impossible to identify weaknesses and make appropriate changes...
Mix in some arrogance and denial and presto! You have our 2014 Steelers...

If Bell is treated like any other DUI/marijuana defendant, he will get ARD, assuming he has a clean criminal record otherwise. That requires a guilty plea, with expungement after completion of the program. Anything less is favoritism. Anything more is unfair to him.

DK....I thought the players had to November 1st to resolve their case and if they did the NFL would let them revert to the old no suspension rules for first time offenders?

Like the intro to the video!!! Nice.

Yes, it's -always- the media's fault. /eyeroll

So now Ben is stealing Aaron Rodgers' material ? Maybe instead he could start playing like him.

I don't know how much time Ben & Wheaton spent getting in sync over the off/pre-season. Maybe they put in countless hours together. It must not have been enough, & that's all that really matters. I'm glad they are trying to get it right, but that should already be the case.

This is all depressing news. The standard is the standard is just sub-standard. DK, did you ask Ben if he read your Sunday column?

I think Bell will be suspended this season if his case is resolved by Nov 5, it would mean a one game suspension unless he has other activity at the league office

It really takes a season or two for a QB and a receiver to get on the same page. As Wheaton didn't really play last year, I don't find it surprising (or worrisome) that they're having some timing issues.

meant to say Nov 1, his case would follow the old contract

Bell is now in the system and is subject to a court ruling he is to be placed in a health and drug assessment review. I think his plea is to allow for him being treated and the NFL has one or two game suspension.ready. To me the larger issue is risk he violates. it again

They are not panicking cause they are clueless. They just need to play a little bit better and all will be fine. You don't panic when you are blind to your incompetence. I would be alot more impressed if they were panicking. Then it would seem they have some clue of how woefully inferior they are to even an average team.

Methinks Ben doth protest too much.

I find it amusing that any player would think that the media is "panicking," as if they were some collective and had some vested interest in the season's positive outcome. Fans may panic, but media inquires - win or lose, there's a story

He is under a DUI if the tests show he was impaired. That is different than failing a drug test as a first time offender..

Let's see. Texting at a stop light. Ticket for illegal parking. You are on one helluva roll, DK.

If we spot you in a VW bus with "Flower Power" on the sides, you're toast, buster.

Watching that video, one suggestion. You need a dkonpittsburghsports.com mike to stick in athletes' faces.

Even if it's a prop.

This coaching staff sure remind me of the Pens staff at the end of last year.

I can honestly say that "panic" would not describe how I'm feeling. I am PISSED OFF and embarrassed after being blown out by the Browns. After 2 8-8 seasons and a very lackluster start to this season, perhaps Ben, and all the Steelers, should focus on their play and not the media
