Penguins 4, Blues 2

Greiss with the start. Don't see this one as a win. Blues play a playoffs style game. I expect another lose. Then tomorrow they will have the back to back game excuse.

GMJR, may need to think as a seller. I was for keeping Martin. They are not a cup contender. They will not use him on powerplay, even though last year he proved more effective than Letang. I am sick of the Letang or Malkin wide shot that ends up clearing the Blueline. Another game of 71 and 87 getting outplayed. I just see tonight as a bad match up. Need to really consider getting something for asset instead of another loss for nothing. This team does not have the mental fortitude to win in tough situations. Unfortunately it is time to look longer term.

Greiss tonight makes sense, especially if you think the Panthers are a threat to catch you. Non-conference tonight, come back tom'w with Fleury and try to deny FL points.

Heavy team tonight -- time for stars to step up.

More movement, less perimeter play, more getting shots through.

The first 2 lines are finally as they should be...

Step 1 in digging themselves out of whatever this is - more energy. They simply need to play faster and consistently come with more purpose. They're playing like they're thinking through every move.

The legs feed the wolf gentlemen. Time to kick up the energy level a couple notches.

I'm starting to get the feeling Downie will be traded.

Can our D make any more poor passes coming out of zone? Brutal.

Ken Hitchcock is a dead ringer (pun intended) for Paul Bearer. The only thing missing is the urn.

Sid going hard to the net... whats up w/ that?

Great move by Sid. Tough that he couldn't cash in.

Good call Milo. Right on the money.

I don't quite understand the Blues' gameplan tonight; They are supposed to be a "heavy" team, but they have avoided physical play tonight. They did play last night, so maybe the energy is not there for them just yet; the Pens will certainly be happy to play a wide open game with this Blues team.

Nice time to end this PP drought.

PRAISE THE LORD!!!!

High slot shot. Dk has been calling for that.

Sid below the net on the PP... whats up w/ that?

Came to play tonight. Looks like different team.

Isn't it amazing what happens when Hornqvist is the recipient of a teed up Crosby feed instead of Kunitz?

Penguins should move to the Western Conference.

How about the (on net) shots from the blue line tonight?? Really a sight for sore eyes!

I am quite shocked that the 3rd goal avoided Kunitz' skate on the way in. It's exactly the type of no-talent, dumb-luck goal he has built a career on. That puck was mere inches away from many in the media continuing to defend Kunitz as a viable top-6 forward. I'm just happy he didn't interfere with the goalie to nullify the goal.

Back out of the division and 3 nil after 2.

Puck possession and puck support really good tonight.

The puck went under the skate and the skate was across the line. That's a goal.

What's taking so long with this review ? The Leafs game must be over by now.

And there can't be another skater in the NHL who has had more instances like this where an inch or less has made the difference. Crosby has had awful luck.

The puck is in, but it's not provable.

Sid has been inches away on about 5 shots on goal the last 3-4 games.

"The call on the ice stands ..." Um, there was no call on the ice.

I think that was a good call.

The Kings uniforms are interesting. They look like they're playing in long underwear.

Looks like a different team tonight. How refreshing!

Sutter IS alive!

Picture perfect execution of the system right there. 5 guys moving up ice together with speed and purpose. goal.

Terrifying to watch play when a player doesn't have a helmet on.

So they switched up the lines a bit, I guess MJ does have some power to do actual coaching.

Hard to take to much away from a game vs an obviously tired Blues team, but a win on the road is a win on the road. It only helps.

DK any sources saying anything about Jordan Staal?

Johnston just called Kunitz a really hard playmaking winger and kept a strait face. 3 years ago I agree.

Kunitz is still a top six winger.

One might think when the Penguins beat a top-tier team using their backup goaltender mention would be made on the league's webpage.

The Penguins got a PP goal tonight, Do you believe in Miracles?

The Pens look different against the West, more fluid and dynamic. They started to fall apart late in the game. Not surprised they left off the gas with a 4-0 lead.

They came out working hard and lrgely kept it up for 60 minutes.

SOme credit needs to go to Johnston for that. If he's blamed when they're flat, he deserves credit when they work. Now, comes a test that they have failed of late....the quick turn around.

interesting thoughts
1.) Kunitz plus 2 on Geno's line, Chris is fine to keep with Geno
2.) Sid line -2 , no points (sorry PPS points are not line points), people get confused earlier in the year that Sid;s lines had so many point, take away PP points and empty net points and then look
3.) PP Play, we got a goal, Letang behind the net, Geno all by himself playing defense...and how is he my himself suppose to protect short handed goals? system has problems, but hey we got a goal
4.) last 2 minutes, Geno line finally on the ice, notice they were trying to prevent a goal, Sid lines comes on, looks like the whole goal is to a empty net goal, they almost go -3 for the night... that is a problem
5.) we have a lot of problems, number one problem is this team has to be a team, and not how many points Sid gets.... Sid is still calling the shots on this team. He need a coach who can call the shots. Sid need to have input but if we are to win, we must be about the Team.

I was there with my wife and daughter. it's been painful watching the Pens of late. I'm glad they switched up lines too
