I know Garrett Jones isnt great, but if he gets the ABs, I think he could hit 25 Hrs playing in AL East.

Pirates acquire 1b Hunter Morris from Brewers for PTBNL, most like to play 1b at Indy

I think that tells us Lambo makes the big club ? Look I'm no big fan of Lambo but he has to be a better big league option than Pedro Florimon. There could still be that last minute acquisition of course.

I dont know Milo. We spend 6 weeks going over these little details, then 2 weeks into the season someone gets hurt, someone sucks and it all changes. Im not going to sweat it for awhile, see where things stand after these guys get some ABs.

Yes and Yes.

Milo I think it was you who wondered how a speed guy off the bench would even fit into game strategy given the expected lineup.

Pinch run for Pedro/Hart or Mercer, fine. But is there really another starter you're going to take out just so a slightly above average base stealer can do his thing?

It's not just base stealing. It's probably not even base stealing late in a game. It's scoring from first on a double or second on a single or beating it a base on a slow roller.

Lambo is awful. Not saying Florimon is a much better choice but at least he can run.

Wish this would've come out about two months ago when such things were topical, but FanGraphs just published their Prospect List for the Pirates and it is by far the best any outlet puts together. Well worth keeping bookmarked.

Easily best swing in the system, bpn. He's tightened it up even more since signing.

My second favorite might actually be Connor Joe. Check out the video they have on him from college.

It's that time again. Time for the Dave Augustine story.

Late spring training 1975 and the Pirates were putting the finishing touches on their roster. Dave Augustine was a 25 year old outfielder that had cups of coffee with the Bucs the previous two Septembers. Danny Murtaugh called him into his office at McKechnie Field to deliver the good news, he'd made the club as the 25th man.

But GM Joe L. Brown was always looking to improve the club and on April 5th worked out a trade with the Phillies for a 32 year old outfielder named Bill Robinson. The Pirates sent veteran righty Wayne Simpson to Philly.

Robinson went on to hit 109 homers in a Pirates uniform and helped them win a World Championship. Simpson won 7 more big league games. And Dave Augustine, whose equipment was shipped to Chicago for his presumed first major league opening day, never spent another day in the majors.

I love that story, Milo. It never gets old. I remember Augustine.

In a 15 year minor league career Augustine never had more than 12 HR or 52 RBI. ....and only once had more than 14 SB. His 29 career AB in the show were a gift.

Clark County Idaho is a Pittsburgh Pirates stronghold. It's true!

Really? How many of its 982 residents wearing the Black & Gold make it a stronghold???
