Nice rant. I like the pad shrinking and angled goal posts ideas.

I remember the article and agree with the general view, especially the continuous penalties. Make penalties hurt a little more. Allow the offense a more beneficial cage when they beat a goalie. I don't agree about eliminating sliding blocked shots. If guys want to give themselves up to help out their goalie, I'm good with it. It's a team game. Matter of fact, I think they should go the other way to protect players and mandate full face protection. A full cage. A half cage below the visor. Whatever. Crosby's jaw didn't get destroyed by blocking shots.

Interesting discussion . . . .

. . . . but you will find no sports guy in town more pro-hockey than Mike Prusuita, and he seemed to love the Stanley Cup playoffs as they are playing out. The discussion after you left among the 3 guys sided more with his opinion rather than yours.

Personally, I find it hard to watch 1st and 2nd periods, but the intensity of 3rd periods is captivating. The 3rd period of Caps/Rangers and Overtime was intense.

Surprised you poo-pooed the size of goalie pads. You cited stars of 80's and 90's: take a look at the size of the goalie pads they were shooting at. Sure goalies are bigger, but the pads are now gigantic!

Goalie pads could be limited much easier than changing angle of posts or——gasp!!!——enlarging size of goal cages!!

Did you see how Ducks scored on that great stretch pass?
The way to beat all the shot blocking and clutter in front of crease is with the stretch pass———NOT with "puck possession" style!!

Puck Possesion style is like 10 skaters moving to waltz music!!

DK, the 1'st period of Can/Russia was sensational. I was reveling in real ice hockey. I know that you don't care for those tournaments, but it was such fun throughout--not the drudgery of NHL's " skating in tar." Yes, the game became a breakaway, but at least there was allowance for skillfulness.
These tourneys do matter to most of the world. Unlike you, I'm not a soccer fan, but I recognize the world is, so I enjoy their joy in the same. This World hockey does matter and in my estimation, it was so much more like the game I fell in love with in my youth.

What would prompt you to say I'm a 'soccer fan,' Ed? Genuinely curious.

Take a page from the NFL and tilt the rules in favor of offensive production. And don't change how a game is officiated from regular season to the playoffs.

Disagree I think the playoffs are exciting... stop complaining and adapt. It's only been 20 years.

Only 20 years of what? Since the Devils began killing the game? How should one 'adapt' to that, Irwin? I don't get it.

20 years of going against league trends. I suspect you are smart enough to know exactly what I mean.

As for how to adapt... lets start by valuing players who are not injury prone and fragile, let's throw the words puck moving defenseman out of our vocabulary and pursue some players who can play playoff hockey.
