Looks like it's JHay's turn to sit in the rotation. You know Jordy will be I there with Ground Chuck pitching.

JAL - someone said to check with you. I'm holding out hope they can fix Liz's issues but as far as I know, he still hasn't pitched for Indy yet - his roster status at Indy is still 'Reserve' - is that an admin thing and, if so, has he reported?

Brad I assume it is administrative. Liz will not get paid if he doesn't report so no sense in not doing so.

Thx, JAL.

He's due....

This directly relates to the Corey Hart failure. Every other position on the field has a competent backup for times they're cold, except Alvarez. The club, and the player, would benefit from being able to sit him down for a few in ruts this like this.

Sean rod can easily start at 1b. If they wanted to sit Petey they could easily.

That's the problem. Should be Petey, but yikes! We just don't have that #4 guy.

Glad to see that they are displeased with the way they have played the last two days. Hopefully they will get it in gear tonight.

Well, they couldn't last night, and his over 6 ERA was in the minors!! And Lohse has won more games against the Pirates than any other team. But I digress...

Walker and Marte have hit Lohse well in their careers. Hopefully this will continue. :)

Still think his logic is incredibly myopic. Hart can't play the field or run the bases and has three hits in the last month. Three.

I don't care how you twist it around; that's bad. The Pirates absolutely can and should find a more valuable piece for the bench.

Likely so but you don't just cut hart until you get the upgraded piece. This isn't time to just dump him in favor of decker or lombardozzi. Vets deserve a bit of extra tlc. Just my two cents.

I agree NMR.

Thomas Tull, founder of Legendary Pictures is a part owner of the Steelers. The Steelers have worn the company logo on their uniforms in OTAs.

Maybe that's because KY played the position for MANY YEARS instead of a COUPLE MONTHS...just sayin'.

KY was an excellent first baseman

I love how folks think that 1B is so easy to play, especially when you have spent your life playing only one position.

Wow...that is incredible. To be able to not only see that many, but to be able to call them...totally awesome. I feel fortunate just to have seen a couple on TV in my lifetime...lol.

I love love love this post. My sentiments exactly.

In less than three years, it seems we were spoiled. Trying to enjoy it more myself. 100 games left, a ways to go before things are determined.

Yeah, but you can't keep squandering divisional games.

Divisional games against teams below you mean little more than any other game. Baseball has no tie breaker like football where you must beat your division opponents a win is a win no matter who they are. If you win more games you win your division no matter how you did within the division.

And by Cutch.

Disagree..Starling couldn't risk getting doubled up. Then, the 3rd base coach sent him home. Not on Marte.

I do see now that aMarte got waived home, only question is why

+1 not the first time either

That makes two buccos tonight Milo.

Wasted opportunities.

Just one. Walker's wasn't a hit.

True. I stand corrected.

I can't believe that's been 30 years. Seems like just yesterday. Think I'll go try to find my green weenie

He provided the soundtrack of my youth. Just loved the guy.

Hard to believe it has been 30 years.

I grew up listening to the Pirates and the Gunner - can still here his voice.

Hopefully we can close out tonight with...

"We had them all the way!"

Wow! That's one way to overcome bad baserunning

438 ft

Come on man...geeezzz

If he had the men on base Walker has had, he might have 40 rbi's

Had the pleasure of meeting Bobby Bragan in Ft Worth a dew years back. He was a character.

If you ever run into Dick Groat you might want to avoid the subject.

I agree Milo...I thoroughly enjoyed filling those out.

I'll never forget it they had that inning where they scored nine runs or whatever

Sure do. I was there. They scored 9 runs the first inning he called. They played the Dodgers that night and Al Oliver played left field for LA.

The one call I seem to remember him saying that night was, "There's a bug on the rug, that's going to get us another run." Just hearing that type of game calling gave me the chills that night

He was the best11

Yep. Doing their damnest to let dog slop pitcher Lohse(r) off the hook

Everyone would have enjoyed the play if Lincoln hadn't been shot too.

Bad decision on his part.

Offense still scuffling a bit.

No kidding bpn...talk about a bonus!

Yep.....1 run HRs don 't count.
He has 10 HR more than me this year.
How many more than you?

What a stupid comment- grow up.

Alverez came into tonight's game hitting .308 with men on. Perception is not always reality

Its not merely that you weren't right......you were SPECTACULARLY WRONG.
Thus be it to all naysayers.

You know.....he does that on purpose.....just to annoy you.
SUCCESS!!

My friends and I were playing pinochle when the Gunner said his chicken on the hill with Will thing

".....lack of Hurdle"????

Morton is doing his part. :)

Going to need Watson now

It's Elementary!

Yay, my wish come true (it seems)!

He has never his them in the majors.
.171 against them last year.
.185 this year.

Not according to NH. He said the key to Polanco was hitting lefties.

I LOVE NH......but numbers do not lie.

Just going by what he says Frank...and he knows better than you or I do.

So .171 last year was good?
His .185 this year is a regression?

I get it.....numbers don't tell everything.

But with numbers this bad.....where is the upside against LHP?

Don't get me wrong.
He is a Pirate.
And I will ALWAYS pull for him.
But.....after turning down a $75M contract......he might want to consider changing representation?

You're bad Milo.....BAD!!

Mostly miss, unfortunately

So much for his power this year...he is all hit or all strikeout right now.

In all fairness, he's not a cleanup hitter. Nor is he a 2 hitter. It's a shame Pedro is too much of a head case to bat cleanup.

True, but he's a better run producer than what he's done so far this year.

Unless he signs the most hometown discounted contract in history.....he will not be here long term.
So.....I hope he is being shopped.
He is a good player.....and a good Pittsburgher.....but his performance cannot justify what he would receive on the open market.
Too bad.
Seems to be the kind of guy who I would like to have on my team.

He left the game due to dizziness.

See my comment above Frank...

Walker's a bum!

Happy now?

strikes out looking more than any 4 hitter in majors.... Your middle of the lineup needs to go up there looking to drive runs in, not take strikes with men on base

Seriously.....he reminds me of Edgar Martinez.
Hits the ball hard almost every time.
No speed.....but a smart hitter.
Edgar's first full year (age 27) he his .302 with 11 HR.
2 years later .343 with 18 HR.
3 years later .356 with 29 HR and 113 HR.
History probably won't repeat.....the Kingdome ain't PNC.....but they are similar hitters.

You beat me to it Milo. Fortunate that Morton was on his game again. Bats need to pick it up again. Phillies gave up a ton of HR's vs Cincy the last few days. No reason the Buccos can't take advantage of that. They are sliding back to the April bats.

Or two.

Or in this case, two of em

Factually.....we DID have them all the way.

Never trailed.....right?? :)

A 7+ inning 3 hit shut-out win from your #4 starter......UGLY??

This is BASEBALL......not fantasy league.

This is how ML baseball is meant to be played.

You DO know that in '68.....Gibby was shut out 1-0 on 5 different occasions.
And the Cards still managed to win the pennant.
Not exactly Murderers Row along the Mississippi.
Give me stellar pitching.....and I will take my chances.

Good counterpoint. I'm going on record predicting that this Pirate band of brothers wins the first round of the playoffs. As long as your #5's ERA hangs below 5, you're in the mix. NH, Hurdle, Searage & Co. are already Pittsburgh Pirate Hall of Famers in my book.

1968 was totally about pitching - I believe after that season they changed the pitching mound to help the batters. We unfortunately have the Cards in our division so we need some of our hitters to start carrying there weight. I do not want a 1 game playoff again - in order to win the division we must have the bats get going to go along with the strong pitching.

DK excels at not letting this happen if it can be avoided.

++++

Actually did not NEED this win.
The season would not be over had we lost.
But still.....a good win for the team.
And for a pitcher unjustly maligned by the "fans".
In MLB.....hard to win if you aren't healthy.
And when Charlie is.....he DOES.

These are the types of games you DO need to win with one of the worst teams in baseball. The last I looked we are still looking up at the division leaders. No excuses for losing the series to the LOWLY Brewers !!!!

Yes.

20 years of losing leaves a fossil. Time to leave the fossil behind.

one word. locke

Well said my friend. Couldn't agree more.

Officer, I am all in with you

@Mancuso below

I do believe theyve got a lot of good talent, a lot of really good guys, and potential to be great. But theyre still 2-3 moves away yet. Sound moves.

If the Cardinals can keep up their YTD performance I'm Popeye.
