Great point on the reviews DK. In test cricket (unless you're playing India who refuse to accept technology) you're allowed one review per innings (half the game) if you use it and you were wrong then that's it, gone.
Nailed it with Pitt and WVU should be playing. As a younger generational viewer, those two teams playing college football was all that mattered. I can almost recite those final three games they played against each other play-by-play.
Great job guys. The new regimes at Penn State and Pitt give the best shot at renewing a home and home series for football but with Penn State it comes down to money and having more home games. Would love to see WVU-Pitt-PSU renew the rivalries.
I'm 48, not 55, and I still remember the rivalry against Penn State like it was yesterday. I remember growing up with it, going to Pitt with it and in the years beyond college. I still hate that team with the same passion I always have and would LOVE to see that rivalry every year.
That being said, I also have very fond memories of the Backyard Brawl. In an ideal world, they'd play both teams.
Out here in Fan-World we are learning to become sport team GMs by paying attention to the reporting. Agreeing to bad contracts doesn't get you good, long term results. Signing Kessler and/or Semin would be just that, bad. In a year of a deep draft, our Pens were left standing on the sidelines watching everyone else bettering their teams. No way we get McDavid or Saad. Good luck GMJR this mess is going to take a pressure washer not a siphon hose to clean up.
I don't know how the TV money works, but it seems to me there's no good reason why all three schools can't play each other in a rotation, like the old days. Seems to me it would be better for Pitt to have the major game on network TV, as opposed to a random game against Iowa, Utah, etc. Would certainly increase the enthusiasm level.
Will today's nhl free agency be tracked with News/Views entries, a column, or something else? Or is it just based on how active or inactive the Penguins are today?
I thought The matching shirts were a celebration of last weeks Supreme Court decision! 😎 Just kidding..great video but I was more distracted by the awesome bobble head collection! Man I'm jealous!👍
Dejan, is there any possibility of covering more penn state football on here? Being a current student it's frustrating to see the lack of coverage on this side of the state, especially when it is compared to the surplus of coverage for Pitt when it comes to the Trib and Post Gazette. I also completely agree with you that Pitt West Virginia should happen. I grew up a Pitt fan and now go to Penn State but I still have this deep hatred of West Virginia
With regards to your PSU rival discussion: It's pretty funny how Penn St. thinks OSU is their rival. Seemingly every year they have some "Hate Ohio State Week" or something like that before they play each other. OSU really doesn't care about Penn St., though. Not even close to a rivalry.
Honestly I am really surprised at both of your lack of insight into what was once one of the BIGGEST rivalries in college football. Every year, before ESPN and the gluttony of NCAA football games televised, ABC would always televise the Pitt/Penn State game on Thanksgiving or the weekend after. It was up there with tOSU/Michigan; UCLA/USC; Alabama/Auburn; Texas/Oklahoma. I think if took a poll throughout Pennsylvania you would find a strong desire to renew it every year. The Pitt/WVU rivalry, while real, actually resulted out of Paterno ending the rivalry.
Really enjoyed Morning Java today! I'm with Josh. I'd be more excited about Pitt and WVU, and I'm a 60 something year old. It's not just for the youngins!! On another note, I had my sound up all the way, but found it hard to hear you, especially Josh.
Found it. From Beano.
"Jack Fleming's house was above the old stadium," Cook continued. "He told me, when he was a child, Pitt would come out on the field, and he would sit on his mother's lap. His mother would point down at them. And his mother would say, 'Son, that's Pitt. You hate Pitt now. You hate Pitt tomorrow. You hate Pitt until the day you die. After that, you will hate Pitt for eternity.' "
The Big 10 tries every year to throw Michigan State down PSU's throats as a rival. I'd love to get back to the old days of Pitt, WVU, Alabama, Notre Dame, etc. on the schedule annually.
