    Just back from vacation.

Any significant columnist move while I was away?

    1. No, but there seems to be a significant downturn in sports readership for the Trib, DJ.

      1. DJ says:

Great to see some of the gang again. Even better to see Luckster doing well.

    2. hockeymonster says:

Define significant. Rossi got a promotion and Milo was Archie Bunker for a while. Is that what you mean?

      1. I haven’t even checked Travis’s blog. No interest in the Trib now. Besides, I was just foolin’ with DJ and being irascible, as he puts it.

        ;)

      2. Karen22 says:

        Rossi replaced DK.

      3. Carlos Danger says:

No one can really replace DK, hence the new site. Rossi can try though.

      4. hockeymonster says:

Ya, i dont even go to trib site more than once or twice, if there’s news.

  3. Biz says:

I know I’m dropping the Trib

    1. Dejan Kovacevic says:

      They dropped you first.

      1. Karen22 says:

Sure did…and I do believe ty’re going to regret this in a hurry.

      2. Biz says:

        :-)

      3. Keith says:

Dangit, DK! My post won yesterday with 5 upvotes. How am I supposed to compete with wit like this?

  4. Radio wave says:

Do you think the Pirates will make a trade before the deadline?

  5. -1

Just watched “Giant Spider Invasion” on Mystery Science 3000. I think I’m ready for some baseball now.

    Woo, Go Packers !

    1. Oshie says:

Almost everyone associated with that great show is from Wisconsin.

They take the Packers so seriously up here that a local station actually has a “training camp play of the day” during the local sports!

How many more days until Sharknado 2 ?

  6. Radio wave says:

Cbs sportsreports the Rockies are giving away a “tulo”jersey tonight and his name is spelled wrong.

    1. Karen22 says:

      TRUE! Pretty darn funny!

  7. stuart66 says:

Listening to Paul Desmond and anticipating a Pirate win. Hey Brandie it turned out you didn’t,t need to sign up for Face book. Hope you find us soon. lucky don,t you have her email?
    Stu

    1. No, but Jandy does.

  8. Cmat0829 says:

Let’s go Bucs. Cutch keys a nice 7-2 win says me.

  9. Radio wave says:

Reds and cards have both won today.

    1. Karen22 says:

      BOOOOOOOO!! :)

I’m not a fan of this long-term but glad to see Hurdle finally moved Polanco lower in the order against a lefty. Let the young man work out of his struggles with less pressure in the 7th spot and force him to be selective with pitches to hit. Taking a walk doesn’t hurt vs LHP.

    1. Karen22 says:

      YES!

  11. WarHorse says:

The Pirates are 29-18 in June and July, the best record in the NL Central. (Brewers: 25-23, Cards: 24-22, Reds: 26-22.) However, 22 of the 29 wins were against teams with winning averages below .500. The Bucs were 7-10 vs teams above .500. Soon, the schedule gets much tougher.

    1. Karen22 says:

Yeah, time to step it up!

  12. WarHorse says:
    -1

Of the four contenders for the NL Central title, the Cardinals have the easiest schedule in August & September. While the Bucs, Brewers and Reds each have 36 games against over .500 teams in August & Sept., the Cards have only 29.

  13. -1

OK, serious observation. 4 games against the Rockies & little to no success against their left handed starters. Our righty hitters have been overly pull happy trying to hit 500 foot 8 run homers. How about trying to stay back & go the other way for a change.

    1. Wild Bill says:

Amen, Milo. And Cutch should lead the way.

  14. JAL says:

    CarGo scratched from Rockies lineup

    1. JAL says:

I see posted above already had him out

If you are an advanced scout, how can you not recommend to the coaching staff, do not throw first pitch fastball and dominate with soft stuff away. Pirates lineup struggles with that junk still….

  16. Eric Bowser says:

My favorite play, a lefty bunting just beyond the pitcher. Perfect execution by Blackmon.

    1. Cmat0829 says:

      Polanco was watching hopefully.

  17. Cmat0829 says:

Now THATS how you throw from third to first.

    1. Eric Bowser says:

that’s exactly what I thought. Not used to seeing that at 3B.

  18. Eric Bowser says:

Now Blackmon with a fabulous sliding catch in foul territory.

  19. The Pirates are 20-27 on the road, easily the worst record of all contenders. That needs to get fixed. Now.

  20. Eric Bowser says:

Russell Martin….. just keeps getting on base.

  21. Cmat0829 says:

Really like the rooftop party deck at Coors Field. Original design was not to have third deck in right field anyway and recent years those seats have been mostly empty. Nice solution.

  22. Cmat0829 says:

Pirates with continued poor approaches and the lack of offense continues.

  23. Eye On TheBurgh says:

Rockies gave out Tulowitzki jerseys tonight. His name is spelled wrong on the jerseys.
    The second ‘t’ is missing.

  24. Gift wrapped. Jeff Locke has twice failed to cover first base tonight.

  25. This is starting to look like the Mets series in New York. You can’t get these games back.

    1. The Gunner says:

A lead off double wasted, the pressure is on Locke to keep the Bucs in the game

      1. Gunner!

      2. The Gunner says:

        Lucky

Hope you are doing better, my man.

  26. Wild Bill says:

Lousy situational hitting after the lead off double.

  27. Cmat0829 says:

Cutch not having a good stretch at the plate. Pull happy and swinging at balls. Tough to not score a leadoff double.

  28. Wild Bill says:

Most of locke’s pitches are waist high or above.

  29. Wild Bill says:

Looks like the Rockies allow umbrellas. My wife and I got snarled at by ushers at PNC back in June during a rain delay while in a totally empty section.

  30. Cmat0829 says:

Rockies know what’s coming. If it’s inside fastball. Outside slow stuff. Locke needs to mix it up. I’d get someone up in the pen.

  31. Cmat0829 says:

Bucs sleepwalking thru this series. Embarrassing.

    1. Patrick(ri) says:

      Pretty boring as well.

  32. Their heads are elsewhere. Maybe it’s all the second hand smoke.

    1. Barb says:

      Maybe it is thin air.

  33. Wild Bill says:

Pirates doing nothing well tonight and a lot badly. This does not reflect well on the coaching staff.

  34. And people wonder why they’re looking for starting pitching.

  35. Their best player has been the lead offender in this mess.

    1. Patrick(ri) says:

He does look like he would rather be somewhere else.

    2. Cmat0829 says:

      YES resounding yes.

  36. Cmat0829 says:

Wow. Cutch overmatched. Bucs won’t score much against leftys if Cutch looks so lost. These guys ain’t Kershaw folks.

  37. theplanisworking says:

In what might be the saddest lowlight of the year so far, the Pirates appear to have pitched around Michael McHenry.

    Can’t make this stuff up.

Maybe the team can bring a witch doctor next time they play in Denver.

  38. Cmat0829 says:

TB on its way to its 9th straight win Price is staying put folks.

  39. I’m mixing Tums & Corona tonight. The things these guys do to you.

    1. theplanisworking says:

Games like tonight make you look forward to fall Friday nights, eh?

      1. We’re working on it already Plan. Selling ads & getting the business part of it taken care of. Can’t wait.

      2. theplanisworking says:

Don’t forget the food (and cookie trays).

        ;)

Glad you are looking forward to it.

  40. Nice to see the Rockies have adjusted to seeing the same pitchers twice in a week. The Pirates have adjusted by just swinging harder.

  41. That’s a combined 14-1 in the last 2 nights to a team that came into the weekend a NL worst -62 in run differential.

  42. I think it is telling that the Bucs bats have been shut down when The Fort is on the Rockies. He is the best scouting report they have on both the hitters and pitchers.

  43. AJS says:

    Lefties. Cant hit em.

  44. Radio wave says:

Lose ground to entire division. Lost weekend in Denver.

  45. Karen22 says:

    Totally uninspired play tonight. UNACCEPTABLE!

  46. The Gunner says:

Let’s hope Ace Volquez brings his A game tomorrow. The Bucs are done tonight.

  47. Carlos Danger says:

This has gone from nearly unwatchable to completely unwatchable.

  48. Reading says:

    A garbage bucket there.

  49. Dejan Kovacevic says:

Ike Davis unleashes his inner Kevin Young.

    1. Carlos Danger says:

I feel like Jason Bay as a Pirate also would put up a lot of his offense in the most non-crucial times. But it wasn’t his fault that almost every at-bat in his Pirates tenure was non-crucial. Kevin Young is a great reference though.

  50. Reading says:

Need 7 more. Not over yet. No, it is not over.

  51. Reading says:

Walker looks like he has gray Hamburger Helper hand batting gloves.

  52. Reading says:

Sunday lineup tomorrow will do trick: Martinez, Morel, Stewart, Frieri ….

  53. Reading says:
    -1

Optimistic that Pirates will play a much better game tomorrow. Prediction: 8-2 Rockies.

  54. stuart66 says:

I wonder if they’re starting to sweat the trade deadline. Actually didn’t look like they were sweating anything. Very poor effort.
