  1. Rock says:

Morel again? We need a right handed bat if Marte is going to be out long.

    1. Chase d’Arnauld is playing 3rd for Indy tonight. That’ll make Groat happy. He’s been in the OF all season. Trouble is, although he’s a right-handed stick, his BA at Indy is basically the same as Pedro’s is here.

  2. Karen22 says:
    -1

This is just NUTS! Send Pedro down…NOW…and make him live with a sports psychologist until he exorcises his demons! And how about Snider in left and JHay at 3rd? MOREL????? Are we serious, or NOT?!

    1. EyeOnTheBurgh says:

Someone needs to tell Pedro to “free his ears” from insode his hat. Maybe that will help him maintain some equilibrium when he throws to first base. 23 errors (22 of them throws, one fielding). He needs to concentrate on firing his throws at the “P” on his first baseman’s chest.

      1. Keith says:

On the other hand, name one other NL 3B with only one fielding miscue.

  3. Keith says:

Whodathunk we’d be wishing for Barmes?

  4. EyeOnTheBurgh says:

But as far as his hitting… all lefties are down, average and OPS-wise, due to the increasing use of extreme defensive shifts throughout baseball.

  5. EyeOnTheBurgh says:

Keith: I can name the third basemen who have fewer errors than Pedro: every other third baseman in the major leagues. For that matter, every other major league player at *any* position.

  6. Cole has thrown 66 pitches through 4. No runs, 3 hits, 2 walks, 6 K’s.

    1. Keith says:

      Yea!

  7. Keith says:

Eye: No, no – look at what I wrote. Fewer fielding errors. Not throwing. Find someone with less than one.

    1. EyeOnTheBurgh says:

Gotcha, Keith. I was typing about that myself .

    2. steelkings says:
      -1

ok great. The 1 armed 3rd baseman can catch……..

  8. EyeOnTheBurgh says:

Then you look at how good Pedro is defensively, minus the throwing errors (1 fielding error all season), and wonder how many runs he has actually *saved* with his excellent glove work…

  9. Oshie says:

C’mon, Vance! The Giants are reeling a bit. Let’s beat that hayseed, Bumgarner, so he can get back to feeding his goat. (I have moral authority to call him a haysed since I’m one myself).

    1. Wild Bill says:

But since when do hayseeds name their sons Madison?

  10. AJ Burnett – 7 earned runs in 5 innings against the Mets. The stinking Mets !

    1. pattonbb says:

The talented d’Arnaud got him for 3 of those runs.

      1. Please. He stinks too. :)

    2. DJ says:

      Don’t want him back.

      Ship = sailed.

  11. Reading says:

Pseudo playoff series as Pirates are a game and a half behind the Giants.

  12. theplanisworking says:

If the Pirates play Pedro, he will stink, and will hurt the Bucs.

If the Bucs send Pedro down to AAA, he will stink less, but still hurt the Bucs by not being on the ML roster.

If the Bucs try to trade Pedro, he will have no value, because he stinks.

    What to do?

    1. I think you hit on just about everything there Plan.

The only way out of this hole is for Pedro to wake up one morning & be able to throw the ball to 1st base again. Then everyone can go back to killing him for his hitting.

      1. Rock says:

Left handed pitcher or not, if they think Morel is a better choice at this point, where does that leave us? I’d rather take my chances with lunchbox in left and JHay at 3B.

      2. theplanisworking says:

        Milo,

I just don’t know what has happened to him. Almost like Blass in 1973. Baffling.

The Bucs need him to improve BOTH at the plate and in the field.
Makes the $100MM contract talk in ST look silly, huh?

  13. Chase just had a throwing error for Indy, so forget him.

    Free Pedro!

    ;)

    1. theplanisworking says:

      Mercy !

    2. The Gunner says:

Lucky………I heard a rumor linking Casey McGehee and the Bucs. Casey would look good @ 3B these days.

      1. Hard to imagine, Gunner, as bad as he stunk when he was with the Bucs.
But he was good for the locker room.
        ;)

  14. Wild Bill says:

Wondering who got lit up on the first day of practice with pads?

  15. Tom P. says:

Brewers just lost to the Rays 2-1.

    1. Wild Bill says:

The Rays are becoming everyone’s problem. Glad we played them when they weren’t going well.

  16. Radio wave says:

    Brewers lose.

  17. steelkings says:

We wore sun screen when we played the rays

  18. steelkings says:

I posted on Travis’s blog. Clean but with a subtle snark. They deleted it but then I complained about the deletion and they re posted and deleted the complaint. Are things really that wonky over there. Are the Stooges in charge.

    1. ghayestcb says:

Thank you for this documentary of the Littlefield years :)

  19. Radio wave says:

This is a really important wild card series with giants. Can we steal one tonight?

  20. Rock says:

As a night owl, I enjoy watching the west coast games.

  21. Radio wave says:

Nick cafardo mlb writer boston globe says pirates might get in on lester.

    1. steelkings says:

no chance…Roto says the Pirates are close on Latroy Hawkins.

      1. Cmat0829 says:

They must have overwhelmed Geivitt ODowd and the two homeless men on the 16th ST Mall running the Rockies, if I am to believe the myriad of tweets on what if would take to pry the 41yo free agent to be.

  22. Oshie says:

For those keeping score, Andi picked former minor league baseball player (drafted by the Brewers!) on the Bachelorette. Took one for the team tonight. Watched that suckfest with my wife and I still get to enjoy the entire Pirates game! Thank you left coast.

  23. Rock says:

Great at bats early by everyone. NW looking smooth right handed too.

  24. AJS says:

You know what bothers me? Sometimes I have to follow the games on Yahoo sports app. Generally pretty decent play by play feed. But in pre game mode it lists team leaders. For the Bucs I get the great info that Jenmar Gomez is batting 1.000. All 1 for 1. Seriously Yahoo?

  25. steelkings says:

    4 in the 1st …good start

    1. steelkings says:

Did I say Latroy Hawkins? Isnt he in a chair suffering from ALS?

  26. Radio wave says:

    Very nice start.

  27. Reading says:

Can’t wait to read tomorrow’s enlightened post about how JHay still really isn’t any good.

  28. Rock says:

    Say Hay!

  29. Cmat0829 says:

Hello from PAC bell park. Section 315. Bucs all over Madison (girls name?). Giants fans never sit down. Back and forth up and dins all during the action. Annoying. Good start for the offense.

    1. I’ll look for you. Let me guess, you’re the guy in the Pirate hat.

      1. Cmat0829 says:

Yes! I’m the guy getting up and down twenty times to facilitate churro runs

    2. Radio wave says:

      Have a great time!

      1. Cmat0829 says:

        Thank you. 5-0 helps.

  30. Radio wave says:

Giants radio crying about strike zone from the start.

    1. Cmat0829 says:

Nah. Not from my uecker seats. Look good!

  31. Tyler Colvin was the Cubs #3 prospect in 2006 & 2007. He was Baseball America’s #75 overall prospect in 2007. He’s hit less than .200 three times in 6 years & is a .239 lifetime hitter. Please, beware of prospect lists.

    1. Cmat0829 says:

Giants lineup less than imposing. Sabean has more work to do.

  32. Wild Bill says:

Great start, Cmat. It’s all yours; I’ve gotta go to bed. Keep it going, all of yinz.

  33. OK, Chris Stewart is pretty funny. So that’s why he’s here.

    1. Patrick(ri) says:

Agreed. A during-the-inning interview that actually enhanced a telecast.

      1. aglebagel says:

Totally agreed. Just became a Christ Stewart fan.

      2. aglebagel says:

Hahaha, make that *Chris* Stewart. Not THAT big a fan, yet.

  34. Cmat0829 says:

Is it me or do many of the Giants look like they were off catching crawdads before the game. Mullets a plenty

  35. DJ says:

    Home plate ump is excellent.

When you see a good one, difference is stark.

    1. Patrick(ri) says:

Ditto for the ballgame(when you see a good one, the difference is stark).

  36. Dejan Kovacevic says:

That 6-4-3 is about as beautiful as baseball gets, huh?

    1. aglebagel says:

Weirdly similar to the great play made earlier in the night by the Braves’ Andrelton Simmons.
      http://m.mlb.com/video/v34882629/must-c-crafty-simmons-turns-in-barehanded-gem

    2. Patrick(ri) says:

Yes! Let me add congrats for this blog. “Good value,” as they say, and no telling how many marriages it will save among the lunatic nation.

      1. Cmat0829 says:

        Great value.

      2. Cmat0829 says:

The VAR of this blog is off the charts ( value above replacement ).

  37. Reading says:

That was a great throw by Walker on the turn.

  38. Reading says:

Another high quality baseball play. Awesome throw by Martin. Great tag by Mercer. Nice.

  39. Giants unleashing the Joe Panik attack.

    1. Cmat0829 says:

Beats the uggla attack. Giants need a 2b pronto. Worley with a gem tonight. Low pitch count. Can he finish?

      1. Patrick(ri) says:

It would be nice to give Watson the night off.

      2. Cmat0829 says:

Oh Watson will not pitch. No doubt. Hughes if needed to bridge but vanimal has this.

  40. Cmat0829 says:

Blaring “don’t stop believing” at AT&T Many fans singing as they stream out of the park.

    1. Cmat0829 says:

And now a new slew of fans has stopped believing. Vanimal.

  41. Reading says:

When the Giants were 20 games over they won a bunch of seemingly lost games with late rallies. So, they can’t let up here.

  42. aglebagel says:

Here’s another way to shorten up games: Allow a mid-inning new pitcher just three warm-up tosses from the mound. I mean, what’s the point of the bullpen?

    1. Cmat0829 says:

That won’t matter. TV commercial break coincides with that. Just don’t let batters to step out of the box.

      1. aglebagel says:

How do commercial breaks automatically coincide with mid-inning pitching changes? I know the TV stations take them, but only because there’s time to do so. If the change was shorter, so would the commercial break. They still get all their normal commercial breaks.

      2. aglebagel says:

And trust me, I’m very on-board with keeping batters in the box.

  43. James Weible says:

The Vanimal is saying, “we don’t need no stinking starting pitcher help!”

    1. Cmat0829 says:

Just a gem tonight. Two over the minimum and in complete control. Pleasure to be on hand for that one.

  44. Cmat0829 says:

Don’t panic. Joe panik. Giants need some players stat.

  45. tdb1977 says:

Nice game pitched by Vanimal! Go for the series win tomorrow and go season win against the Giants.

  46. Cmat0829 says:

Not a lot of bucco fans but a vocal contingent standing and saluting #48. Well deserved.

  47. Cmat0829 says:

Where’s JRAy with the wrap up???

  48. WarHorse says:

Congratulations Vance Worley on your first Major League complete game shutout. Attaboy!

  49. WarHorse says:

It’s 0600 where I live and well into Tuesday. No better way to start a new day than to watch the Buccos win on the West Coast. Made my day.

  50. Reading says:

Great win! Pick up a game on the Giants in the Wild Card.
