DEJAN KOVACEVIC, DK ON PITTSBURGH SPORTS
Here’s the podcast of my opening rant today on 105.9 the X about the silliness of pointing to Bob Nutting as it applies to the Pirates’ failure at the trade deadline.
I’ll be filling in for Mark Madden again sometime soon. This was fun.
Well done rant. I agree you decide who you want, what it will cost and unless th cost is stupid, like they want Cutch for Andrew Miller, you make the trade without worrying about you sending.
Excellent segment DK. Unless they stop negotiating in fear of losing the trade they wont ever make one.
No doubt! Who cares who “wins” the trade if that trade helps you win? Think the LA Kings are crying over losing Wayne Simmons and Braden Schenn to the Flyers for Mike Richards? Conventional wisdom says the Flyers won the trade, but the Kings have 2 Cups. Advantage Kings!
Some are saying teams like pittsburgh have to home grow all there talent. Oakland is a similar market and has virtually 0 homegrown players right now.
Great rant DK – I too was struck by the Gammons quote earlier today – adding a top of rotation arm like price who would anchor the rotation for the next 18 months was worth any 3 prospects AND throw in Cumpton and Snider…
Outside of “good job on the air,” which it was, here’s a general comment: This site is great so far. I found myself going to local news outlets online much less frequently in the last week or so for sports. Perfect. Really.
I agree, I rarely visit the pg or trib anymore. I wish there was some way of knowing how much of an overall decline there has been in web page views on the trib since the departure of DK.
Obama needs to send Seal Team 6 to Neal’s office and, well…
When NH was hired he was the young, high risk, high reward candidate. Clearly a bright baseball mind. But with NH you get growing pains. You get the Miguel Sano situation, yesterday’s flop, and Brent Morel in our starting lineup.
Over the past few days, guys are going awfully hard on Brent Morel. He’s only up here till Barmes can get back. Nobody ever said he was the 3rd baseman of our future. As it plays out, this may well be Morel’s last time to put on a big league uniform. Give the guy a break.
Who are you the Ghost of Brent Morel???
We’re in a pennant race. It’s a joke that were trotting out Morel and Martinez. Frankly, at this time I’m not concerned about him pulling on a major league uni. I want a better commitment from the BMTIB!!!
So what was NH supposed to do? Have 3.5 WAR infielder kept on the shelf in Indy just in case our reserve SS temporarily goes on the DL? Or should we have traded away assets two days ago to cover for Barmes, even though he’s almost back? Hogwash, tough guy. Morel is a non-issue.
Barmes injury wasn’t a short term one. NH should’ve made a trade before the deadline to sure this spot up. Contingencies should be in place in case of injury. It’s called depth. Something we do not have…tough guy.
DK…quick question…apparently, they weren’t close on Andrew Miller (something they needed). What if the asking price Boston wasn’t budging from was Josh Bell or Tyler Glasnow? Do you make that trade?
I’ve never been into hypothetical analysis. Enough real analysis in which to engage.
