    2. Jandy says:

      YAY! JHay is back :)

  3. Milo Hamilton says:

Polanco is in the lineup ! Hooray !

    1. Chris Matusic says:

if only we could swap Pedro in for Ike we might just have the perfect Pirates lineup, 2014 version.

  4. Chris Matusic says:

I read the MLB At Bat app last night that MLB is going to issue clarification on the ‘catcher blocking the plate rule’… net is that umpires will be instructed to use common sense, not call someone out when the ball beats them by 20 feet just because of a technicality. Wow.

    1. Patrick(ri) says:

Christen this the “Jandy Common Sense” rule.

      1. Jandy says:

        haha, thanks, Patrick :)

      2. patrick(ri) says:

Glad you enjoyed it. It goes to show that just because you wear 9Ws doesn’t mean you are intentionally blocking the plate.

    2. Johnny Styles says:

That would be great, except that I’m not sure any umpire has common sense. :)

      1. Karen22 says:

And THAT, dear friends, is the huge problem!

  5. Jim S. says:

Need to take 3/4 from this team and come back home on a winning note, with the 2nd WC firmly in our grasp and our sights set on StL & SF.

    1. Chris Matusic says:

AMEN. Take tonight’s game is step 1.

      1. Double amen.

  6. Oshie says:

    If playoffs began today…

    1. . . . . there would not be a playoff game played in PNC Park!

      1. stephenjpetrilli says:

Unless, of course, the Bucs win the WC playoff game

  7. Milo Hamilton says:

Roger Goodell grants his 1st interview with the hard hitting, wait for it, Norah O’Donnell. I guess Chef Geoff will be catering. Tonight on the CBS Evening News. Sorry for the interruption, just thought you’d all like to know.
    .
    Back to Buccos.

    1. Oshie says:

I don’t even have to watch it and I know what the canned answers will be.

    2. I’m sorry I lead such a sheltered life: who is Norah O’Donnell? The “Thin Man’s” secretary?

    3. Jim S. says:

I’d prefer Neil O’Donnell – even though I have yet to forgive him for nearly single-handedly losing our first SB.

    4. Karen22 says:

      Oh brother…

  8. 19 games left . . . . . 4 games down in the loss column to the Cards.
    .
If Cardinals play .500 and Bucs go 14 – 5, Buccos tie for the division!
    .
You put yourselves here, Pirates———now go take advantage of it!!!!

    1. toochca says:

      Cardinals remaining schedule (18 games)
      @Reds (3)
      Rockies (3)
      Off Day
      Brewers (3)
      Reds (3)
      @Cubs (3)
      Off Day
      @D-Bags (3)

      1. Chris Matusic says:
        -1

tooch: I’ll go out on a limb and predict 10-8 for the Cards during this stretch…could easily be 14-4, but they do have to actually play the games. Bucs will need to go 15-4. Won’t bet the farm, but am not forfeiting either.

      2. toochca says:

I was just posting this to state that the Cardinal schedule is not particularly difficult at this point. They are 500 on the road at this point however. I was going to also post the Giants schedule but it is essentially D-Bags, Dodgers, Padres (home and away).

  9. Which is easier: for Pirates to go 14 – 5 in last 19 . . . .
    .
. . . . or to go on the road to face 17-game winner and lefty Madison Bumgarner in San Fran for a 1-game Season?

    1. Chris Matusic says:

i’m not super impressed with Madison. He’s no Wainright or Kershaw, that’s for damn sure. Not dissing him, just saying I’d take my chances.

      1. Patrick(ri) says:

        He has been lately.

      2. Chris Matusic says:

Patrick, watched him against the Tigers on Saturday, he was OK, but hardly unhittable.

      3. 17 – 9 —— 3.02 ERA —— 1.10 WHIP —— 199 strikeouts
        .
What starting pitcher for the Pirates matches up with him? 4-win Liriano? 4.++ ERA Cole?
        .
Maybe bring Charlie Morton off the Hospitality List, and he can serve up muffins.

    2. Milo Hamilton says:

Winning 1 game is easier than winning 14 out of 19. Even the Rockies have won 1 game, 59 different times this year.

      1. Milo,
        .
Not fair for you to throw the 1960 Pirates back at me!!!!

      2. Yet the Rockies have won only 18 times in 60 road games.
        .
Playoffs By Infinity would not give good odds for a road game like that——against 2nd best Starting Pitcher in National League.

    3. Jim S. says:

Well, we’re 1-0 vs MadBum on the road this yr … so, there’s that.

      1. Milo Hamilton says:

Beat him there last year too. Barmes took him deep.

      2. That makes the odds WORSE!!!
        .
        Hidden Vigorish!

  10. Oshie says:

Bob Suter has died, 57. Miracle on Ice team member. Former Badger. Wisconsin legend.

  11. Oshkosh b’Gosh,
    .
24 days until the opening of college basketball practice.

    1. Oshie says:

      Great time of the year!

  12. Pirates release Ernesto Frieri.
    .
I give BMTIB grief for sitting on their hands, but I give them credit for this move/attempt.
    .
Grilli appeared done, and maybe a distraction, and Frieri was a good possibility at improving pen.
    .
    No complaints here.

  13. Karen22 says:

Here we go! ONE. GAME. AT. A .TIME……

    1. We can always count on you, Lovely Karen!

      1. Karen22 says:

Sometimes, I’m not so lovely when watching a game. Just ask the hubby. ;)

  14. Milo Hamilton says:

Is this Bo Buchanan or Clint Buchanan ?

  15. Radio wave says:

Locke answered the bell last night. Do it again. Go Nats.

  16. Jim S. says:

Not the start we wanted in the field.

  17. Milo Hamilton says:

    TOOTBLAN.

    1. theplanisworking says:

      ++++++++++++++

  18. Jim S. says:

Don’t look like they came to win tonight so far. Need to wake up fast.

  19. Patrick(ri) says:

Ah, nothing like an mlb game.

  20. Jordy!

    1. Patrick(ri) says:

Mercer for comeback player within the year.

      1. Karen22 says:

He really has picked it up since his dreadful early start. I do like him a lot.

  21. aaron says:

How many runs have the Pirates forfeited this season because of silly base running gaffes?

    1. Karen22 says:

Good question. Baserunning fundamentals appear non-existent. I don’t get it.

  22. Pucknutz says:

Love that play… speed on first….ball rattling around in the left field corner…third base coach pinwheeling the arm (well I don’t know if he was actually doing that but in my minds eye thats what I saw and I am stickin to it) …
    send it home.
    That’s baseball!!!

    1. aaron says:

I was referring to Martin getting caught at second, costing us a run with the Mercer double.

      1. Pucknutz says:

Sorry aaron, had not even seen you post when I took 5 slow painful min to type that ( no keyboard skills at all.lol)
In the ballyard that play is really fun to watch… TV…not bad…but not the same.

  23. Jim S. says:

    Volquez has nothing right now.

  24. Milo Hamilton says:

Yeah, that Walker is a terrible 2nd baseman. :)

    1. Jim S. says:

I think he makes that particular play as well as anyone in the game.

  25. Radio wave says:

    Ev does not have it.

  26. Brandie says:

Kind of meh right now. If there is hidden vigorish someone better find it PDQ.

    1. Brandie says:

Ask and I shall receive! Go HUSTLE MARTIN!

      1. toochca says:

Brandie’s granting wishes tonight!! Keep it up Brandie!!

    2. Jim S. says:

      Good timing, Brandie! :-)

      1. Brandie says:

        Got my zen on!!!!!

  27. Jim S. says:

Nice, workmanlike inning at the dish. Marte with a nice walk, same with Neil. Then, Russ atones for his TOOTBLAN in a big way.

  28. Jim S. says:

I was listening to MLB Radio today. A Bucs fan had the nerve to say Russ was better than Yadi this yr. Casey Stern scoffed at it. I tweeted him & said it’s closer than he thinks & he should do a little research. He said it’s not close. I believe Russ is having the better yr.

  29. Florida Steeler says:

Edinson Volquez makes an absolutely disgusting effort at the plate.

    1. Probably why he’s hitting .022 in 45 AB’s.

      1. Milo Hamilton says:

        I could bunt .022.

      2. Jim S. says:

Only because of your wheels. :-)

      3. Brandie says:

Are you saying Mye-lough is the choose choose with square wheels? Poor Misfit Mi-lowe.

      4. Milo Hamilton says:

Nobody wants a Charlie In A Box.

      5. Brandie says:

Choo-choo. Not choose choose. (Face palm.)

      6. Brandie says:

Are you referring to Charlie Morton?

  30. Jim S. says:
    -1

Feels like Marlon has about a 100 game career hitting streak vs the Bucs.

    1. Florida Steeler says:

Hope Hurdle has quick hook for Edinson tonight–he is not as sharp as usual.

  31. Karen22 says:

Eddie just doesn’t look too hot tonight. Hope he finds his mojo.

    1. Karen22 says:

And just like that, a nice DP. Now let’s put some runs on the board. We’ve got playoffs to chase!

  32. Jim S. says:

I liked the Wendy’s girl better in the older commercials. :-)

  33. Milo Hamilton says:

    That’s a double.

    1. Jim S. says:

That could be a big run.

  34. Brandie says:

    MAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRTTTTTTTAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!

  35. Jim S. says:

That’s a tough strand. Marte misses by a foot or two & Cutch gets robbed.

  36. Brandie says:

BLEEP! Time for more Hidden Vigorish!

  37. hockeymonster says:

I thought it was too high…

    1. hockeymonster says:

Oh come on..no one seen “major league”? Ah….nevermind.

  38. Jim S. says:

The old 0-2 HBP. Must have been a tribute to Charlie.

    1. Milo Hamilton says:

      Paul Maholm.

  39. Jim S. says:

I think this needs to be EV’s last batter, regardless.

  40. Florida Steeler says:
    -1

Ok–that is enough of Volquez for tonight.

  41. Florida Steeler says:

Can we send Snider and Davis somewhere?? Anywhere??

    1. Michael Kamensky says:

Right on, Florida Steeler. Could not have said it better myself. Come on, Buccos, score some runs. Getting late. :)

  42. Milo Hamilton says:

Getting beat by a bunch of stiffs tonight.

    1. theplanisworking says:

So you are saying there is a chance? ;)

  43. Florida Steeler says:

The bullpen comes through again but Neal said we didn’t need to add.

    1. theplanisworking says:

      Let poor Neal alone.
The right move was no move.

      In Neal we trust.
God, I just barfed saying that ….

    2. toochca says:

3 Ground balls and two strike outs?!

      1. Milo Hamilton says:

You forgot about the winning (maybe) run.

  44. Patrick(ri) says:

Rollins hurt. Replaced by a guy hitting .085, who tears it up. Go figure.

  45. Florida Steeler says:

Ike Davis is pathetic and I don’t want to hear about his stats which are elevated because he walks all the time. He is hitting .234–end of story.

    1. Patrick(ri) says:

There he goes, looking at strike three and whining. What’s with him?

  46. Milo Hamilton says:

Getting tired of Ike’s attitude toward the umpires. Swing the bat once in awhile.

    1. Florida Steeler says:

Begs for walks so his ops is blown up.

    2. Patrick(ri) says:

Exactly. Or, he could retire and join us on the blog where whining is appreciated.

      1. Florida Steeler says:

ha-ha, best post of the night–maybe the month.

  47. Reading says:

Hey, I’m going to fake swing at multiple pitches right down the middle, then get mad when dude rings me up. Swing the bat! Play the game!

  48. Reading says:

How do they lose to this so-called team? Probably going to give one back to Milwaukee.

  49. Jason Baileys says:

Yea enough already at looking at strike 3.

  50. Reading says:

Time for 20 minutes between pitches.

  51. Milo Hamilton says:

    Galvis (.129) 3 hits; Franco (.211) 2 hits & Buchanan (.074) 1 hit. That’s 6 of their 8 hits. Blech.

  52. Just got out of meeting.
    .
All I know is Polanco got a hit and is now on 3rd with 2 outs and Bucs down a run. Greg Brown has not said the score the whole inning.
    .
    There it is: 4 – 3.
    .
Come on Obiwon-JHay-nobi. You’re our only hope!

    1. Darth Vader just cut J-Hay in half with a light saber.
      .
Crap! What did the Cards do tonight?

  53. Reds lead the Cardinals 7 – 4 in bottom of 7th.
    .
Bucs can remain 4 games back in loss column!!
    .
I know absolutely nothing about this game, but it was a bad one to drop. Could be 3 games back!

  54. Dejan says in tweet-tweet land: “NUTTINGBULLPENHUNTINGTONSIGNMARTINBOYCOTTIKELOOKSLIKEADAMLAROCHECHEAPCHARGEEIGHTYEAROLDSFORAUTOGRAPHS.”
    .
    At least we all agree!

    1. Dejan Kovacevic says:
      -1

I’d have put it here, too, but it actually FELT like more than 280 characters. :)
