On location: Penguins 3, Flames 1, final

The mumps have been going around the league. Started out west and has slowly spread. For once, it isn't just the Pens!

Sid should be Mumps-protected, all Olympic players got booster shots last year.
But my Lord, anybody see a pic of his Face??? Like a basketball on the right side. I guess it could be sinus or wisdom tooth or whatever, but how in hell did it take the Pens med staff this long to decide to sit him?? Jeebus.
And if the Maatta rumors are true, I'm just going to kill myself with a veg-o-matic.

What's the rumor on Maatta, Sarah? I haven't seen anything besides "could be out a while."

Bone chip on repaired shoulder. Out for the year. Just an insider rumor, but Oy, that would be bad.

"It's the Moors, you idiot!"

Yeah, dunno. I am guessing wisdom tooth maybe? But yikes his face is just like a balloon on that side, poor kid. Give him a rest.

From my limited knowledge of infectious disease it can be difficult to identity mumps in individuals who aren't immunologically naïve. Additionally, certain antibody tests aren't going to able to differentiate between an exposure to vaccine and an exposure to mumps virus.

MMR and any booster shots are not completely effective for mumps, and mumps is easy spread through saliva (which can be a problem in athletics)

It sure looks like his parotid gland is swollen.

If that were an abscess wouldn't he be in significant pain? They wouldn't be screwing around with blood tests trying to figure out what's wrong with him? Got to be the mumps.
