  1. I’ve seen bits of 2 Penguin preseason games.
In those games the Pens looked more like the Nashville Predators than the Pittsburgh Penguins.
    .
    That book doesn’t read!
    .
    I hope it changes starting tonight . . . . .

Thought we did some good things on saturday.

    2. Bettis36 says:

That’s because they’re best two offensive forces have yet to skate a shift. When Brandon Sutter is your #1 center, you’ll look a whole lot like the Nashville Predators.

    3. DJ says:

If by being more like the Nashville Predators you mean having guys actually go to the net, then I’m all for it.
      .
      Encouraging.

  2. Bob Keller says:

Love the new system. Finally support in all zones. Hope Kapy makes the team.

  3. Oshie says:

Game will be rebroadcast at midnight ET on NHLN, if anyone cares.

    1. BillyBaduka says:

I do, living outside the Pens broadcast area.
      .
      Thanks Oshie.

  4. Milo Hamilton says:

Sorry for the interruption but if the Pirates win – Game 1 in Washington is Friday at 12:07. Game 2 is Saturday at 5:37. Thought you’d like to know.
    .
    OK, back to hockey.

    1. Dang!
I scheduled a Friday afternoon thingee so I could watch the game late!

      1. Jim S. says:

Sounds like a thingee might need to be canceled.

  5. hockeymonster says:

And why isn’t bryant getting a look? If JB can’t catch consistently atleast Bryant can draw some interference calls down field.
    .
    Ok back to hockey :)

  6. Milo Hamilton says:

Poor job assigning numbers. I can’t tell whether it’s Dumoulin or Harrington.

  7. Milo Hamilton says:

The Mild have issues with their power play ? You’re kidding.

    1. Oshie says:

This just in. It’s cold in Minnesota in January, also.

  8. hockeymonster says:

Great forecheck and decent shift by Kapanen but he needs to keep his feet moving when he doesn’t have the puck. He’s watching and waiting instead of finding ice.

    .

I think Ehrhoff and PM have another gear in them but we’ll have to wait a few weeks to see it.

  9. Jay Baileys says:
    -1

I see Letang is in mid season pinching form. Nice giveaway in the offensive zone just before he took the stupid boarding call leading to the Wild goal.

    1. AJS says:
      -1

Color me shocked. Oh wait. Typical LeTang. So overpaid. I really cant stand him. More turnovers behind his own net own simple breakouts than any defensman I have seen.

      1. Jay Baileys says:
        -1

The guy has all the talent in the world lets hope this guys system of “activating” D doesn’t mean Letang has free reign to pinch.

  10. Barb says:

I have a question. Does anyone know why Mike Lange is not on the radio side?

    1. Milo Hamilton says:

He usually just does 1 or 2 exhibition games to warm up. Mostly at home.

  11. Barb says:

Okay sounds good. I really don’t like the person who is working with Phil Borque.

    1. Milo Hamilton says:

Steve Kolbe. Yeah, same here. You know it’s bad when I’m listening to Steigy by choice.

  12. Milo Hamilton says:

This Bortuzzo injury leaves them with no physical presence back on that blue line. Letang & Despres are the only 2 guys that will hit you at all.

    1. hockeymonster says:

Yup. And also means a LH dman will have to play on the right.

      .

      Tanger to downie.

      1. Milo Hamilton says:

Two will. Letang is all they have.

    2. Jay Baileys says:

You hit the nail on the head Milo, we have no real big hitters back there now.

  13. Jay Baileys says:

That was the good Letang, fantastic pass to Downie there for an empty net put away.

  14. Milo Hamilton says:

I dedicate that Steve Downie goal to Jandy. ;)

    1. Jandy says:

      Awwww thanks, Milo.
If Downie plays like that all season, I’ll be happy :D

  15. hockeymonster says:

Kapanen getting a bit of a NHL baptism. Hope he stays a bit calmer and more decisive with the puck. Still a lot of time.

  16. hockeymonster says:

So been wondering what if they dont keep kapanen around? Maybe ebbett gets a look on geno’s wing? Ebbett-geno-HQ could be effective till BB gets back. Unless of course we do the unthinkable and break up sid’s rat pack.

    1. Milo Hamilton says:

Andrew Ebbett is a minor leaguer. Geno & Sid don’t need to be playing with minor leaguers. I really don’t think they have any choice but to keep Kapanen. Or, Sutter has to be moved up. They have some choices to center the 3rd line.

      1. hockeymonster says:

Long term there’s no doubt about that. But im talkin a month till BB gets back. If you move sutter up and geno to wing you won’t be utilizing geno at center, which would be a shame. But in spurts you can have ebbett with geno or maybe downie if he can play LW? It becomes a ?

  17. hockeymonster says:

Super duper gets 2 minutes for being too strong.

  18. Wild Bill says:

The Wild are still stuck with coyote ugly uniforms. Like the Devils in the bad old days.

  19. Jandy says:

    https://pbs.twimg.com/media/ByvLdjTIYAE66lF.jpg:small
    This is awesome!

  20. Jandy says:

HockeyMonster, how did Duper look last night? I didn’t get to see the game. Hubby took over the television with his car shows.

    1. hockeymonster says:

      Boooo….bad hubby. :)

      .

Duper looked quick. He took 2 penalties but 1st one was a little ticky tacky by the boards. Duper was all over the puck but think he high sticked someone, but not sure. 2nd call was was BS. 2 minutes for being too strong.

      .

      Kuni playing yet?

      1. Jandy says:

I saw Kunitz playing Sunday, I think. he looked fine.

Will be nice to get the big guns on the ice, and see how everyone meshes. I’m getting tired of the injury BS.

        1. hockeymonster says:

Kuni still shaking off the rust but all the vets have another couple gears in them. Especially PM, ehrhoff, and tanger.

        2. Jandy says:

Oh yeah…you know it. Come regular season, they will be pushing it into high gear.

  21. DJ says:

    Slow sports day.
    .
    Calm before Bucs storm.
    .
Need 7 strong from Eddie V.
    .
    We can do this.

    1. Jandy says:

      Yes.

  22. Jim S. says:

Raiders fired Dennis Allen. I wonder if they’ll pay him for the rest of the year. Pats don’t look much better than the Steelers right now.

  23. hockeymonster says:

Couple thoughts now that I’ve had some coffee:
    .
Nice to see plays at blue line but if it’s a 2 on 2 or 3 on 3 we’re gonna have to get the puck behind D, forecheck and do some hitting. I have no interest in seeing adams, sill n spaling pulling up or getting fancy at blue lines

    1. hockeymonster says:

I know we want to hit the dman joining rush from weak side but if it’s bottom 6 players on the ice then the dmen may or may not be top 4 caliber, so it’s uncertain that taking risk at blue line will result in positive play. Puck possession is not about options, its about high %.

      1. Jandy says:

make sure you let Johnston know that!!

        1. hockeymonster says:

In general i really liked what i saw early in game. That 2nd GA really deflated the team. Between that and MN’s deeper lineup waking up it just became a harder matchup.

          .

If we keep tilting the ice like that with our regular roster we’ll be fine.

        2. Jandy says:

          And Greiss > Zatkoff!

  24. Dom says:

Who’s a worse team, Steelers or Patriots?

    1. Jim S. says:

That’s a tough one, Dom. They both look pretty bad right now. Their division looks as weak as ever. Ours looks tough.

      1. Dom says:

I guess they’re still favorites to win their division. The Jets might be the worst in football. The bill just replaced their QB, who they spent a first rounder last year. The Dolphins are have lost some bad games.

        1. Jim S. says:

Seems like just about every team has been up and down so far. Hard to predict right now. But, this is when things start to solidify.

    2. Steve B. says:

Pretty sure even a bad Patriots team could beat these Steelers. Until they can beat the Jags, the Steelers to me are officially the worst team in the NFL right now. That’s what happens when you lose to the worst team in the NFL. Tag, you’re it!

  25. AJS says:

    Is it wednesday night yet?

    1. Dom says:

      Nope. Tuesday morning.

    2. Tom Armstrong says:

      Today is like Christmas Eve!

      1. Dom says:

        Anybody going to the game?

    3. Jim S. says:

Depends when we read your comment, AJS. :-)

  26. Jim S. says:

My preference was to have Cole rest on Sunday. But, I definitely like the idea of him & Frankie pitching 2x in the next series. I think we need that to get past Wash. We have to find a way past SF tomorrow, but if we do this will have been a brilliant gamble by Clint.

  27. Tom Armstrong says:

You know…I got to thinking yesterday..The WC is obviously one game winner move on. BUT, if we think about it…baseball throughout the whole season are series or sets of games…3 or 4 games. So having one game to decide this thing…is it a little cheap? Just asking.

    1. AJS says:

A lot of people wanted a 3 game set. But the problem was you needed at least 1 day for tie breakers. No one wanted to play 3 in 3 days with travel at leasr once so call it 4 days for wc with a 1 2 format which is lame. So maybe 5 for wc and a day between wc and lds and bam that is antire week off for the division winners to get stale. One game gives one more team a shot and keeps teams going for the prize…the division.

      1. Arriba Wilver says:

Yeah, I have no problem with it. Wanta skip 1 game playin game? Win Division.

        1. Arriba Wilver says:

And they have 162 games to win the Division.

  28. Tom Armstrong says:

I do understand that is the way it is..cant do a best of 3 for the WC, but, I just think its a little “cheap”. Granted, loved the intensity of last year and the results… That was all…just a thought I had.

    1. Jim S. says:

It is quick and painful if you lose, Tom. I’d love to see 2 of 3 WC, but they’d have to cut back elsewhere. The reg. season is so long, but they aren’t cutting into that. So, I think they’d have to shorten the league CS to go to 2 of 3 in WC. I’m sure $$ says no & that’s that

      1. Tom Armstrong says:

That was my thought, Jim…take a couple games from the regular season. Go back to 155 or something like that.

        1. Jim S. says:

Personally, Tom, I would love to see the reg. season end by Labor Day. But, there’s too much money involved, for teams and players, for that to happen now.

        2. AJS says:

It isnt all about where to cut back though. It is about having 6 teams sit around for a week and do nothing. Of course the nl will have sat around until friday anyway but that is a long layoff for baseball.

  29. Dom says:

    Raiders fire their head coach.

    1. AJS says:

No shock there. Now if they could only figure out that the personel and the people choosing the pwrsonel is the real problem. 10 coaches havent been able to win with these guys. 10. Starting to think the coaches arent the problem here.
