Islanders 6, Penguins 3

They dont seem to like the easy route.

He got cross checked for his luck, what a sport.

Same thought, but that Tavares guy is kind of good.

That was a great friggin move he put on him no doubt

He cNt pinch when he's playing with Scuderi.
The Isles are just a better team right now.

I'm not and never was DJ.
This team matches up against us scary well.
Unless we're 100% healthy and playing well, it's not a good matchup.
At all.

Add in Fleury's ghosts in that building, and his tighter play (like tonight), and want to avoid them.

Probably unavoidable though.

They have their hands full with this team. Too bad we will have to play them in the divisionals.
Don't like the match up.

If we see them in the playoffs Pens will be in big trouble

He's not pinching as much this year overall. But he seems to be making bad pinches lately. It would also be nice if his shots from the point hit the net every once in awhile.

Well I'd take an original Warhol silkscreen over Letang.

Kyle Okposo owns Fleury.

Gotta be DK's fault for perpetuating it.

All that tells me is they're still looking at Isles like their little brother.

Sooner or later little brother grows up and kicks your a**.

He made a bad pass no doubt. But he has 4 goals in 5 games if you think he stinks so be it. I will take him any day of the week.

It sure was ugly, Sarah. In the top three at least.

Teams w speed kill us.
Scuds, Adams, Sill, all our slower players, dumpster fires.
We won't get past this team in POs unless those anchors are cast off.
It's not that complicated hockey-wise, but (thanks Ray) it might be impossible cap-wise.
This team owns us at the moment.

Irresponsible hockey at its very finest.

I had a couple playoff flashbacks

Yea they really unraveled after that 4th goal. Really starting to wonder if they have enough on the blue line to hang with these guys.

Adams, Sill and Arcobello are the only 3 players on the team to not be on the ice for a goal against and Scuderi was a -1, while they may not be good players none of those guys had any effect on the outcome of last night's game. The 1st and 3rd lines were dominated 5on5 last night and are the reason we fell.

Check the Corsi Coach D. Adams couldn't be lower. Getting trapped in your own end shift after shift takes its toll.

certainly the worst final 10 minutes

Despres had 7 hits by the midway point of the 3rd, Bortuzzo came was scratch because he has been completely exposed of late and the 4th line was the only line that was not on the ice for a goal against last night. None of the things you mentioned had any effect on the Pens losing last night.

Well to be fair they have yet to play well in their division. They won't get out of the Divison in POs unless a lot changes, and not sure JR has room to pull it all off.
NYI are younger, deeper, faster, and have the better G (not overall, but in this matchup).
And they know they can beat us.
And worse, we know they can too.

Hit the nail on the head. We are in the fast lane to nowhere. 09 is a distant memory. This window is shut.

Yep against the division is the problem. Since they have to beat 2 of them to get to the Conference Final. Unless they make changes that could be a problem.

Absolutely a turning point and not specific to Sid IMO ....the forwards as a whole do a poor job of covering when the D pinches.
That was a critical gaffe.
Downie was the last nail.

When Cap moved Jts line vs Sidney's it tilted the ice in the 3rd.
Kunitz is another dead weight who cannot play at this speed anymore.
Why they give him his preferred side vs Perron is just poor bench mgmt by MJ IMO.

The D had a rough night, but the Team D overall was terrible. This team will continue to disappoint when it matters until they learn to make smart decisions. That go ahead goal was a perfect example. D joins the rush. Perron turns the puck over and Sid makes the wrong decision by starting to chase the puck, basically leaving one D back. Gotta care about preventing goals more than scoring them. Same as it ever was....

This is not a single game. The Islanders have been kicking the Penguins butts for a while now and it is a trend, not a fluke.

My assumption was the Islanders are a better team, and the Penguins haven't really done anything to disprove that. They can play their forth line twice as much as Pens, and against aggressive fore-checking teams the Penguins breakouts falls apart. Fleury's career year has been papering over some of those issues.

Yes there are injuries but that doesn't mean the Pens cannot better deploy and uses the player available.

You couldn't be more correct. For the life of me I will never understand dk's praise and adulation of this team's mediocrity. I have just started leaving him alone about the issue because he is going to bury his head in the sand until we lose in the first round. This is a bad hockey team.

The dead wood this team carries is way too heavy vs. Faster good teams like NYI ....Adams and Sill are absolute anchors.
And Despres is in serious trouble with Scuds who is soooo slow. He has to play a great game to make up for 4, and he didn't this time.

That cannot be a serious statement about Crosby/Malkin. And the Flyers are 11th in the conference.

OK I'll bite!
What part of needng better support for Crosby and Malkin do you disagree with?
Or were you referring to the notion that we struggle v NYI, NYR and PHI?

Nor should he.
And we have to make him pay.

Funny this comment was in the 2 bs period but it says 2am, weird

The site is acting strange. Posts are not appearing for ages. It's odd....

Anyone had the Post Comment box dancing on them up and down?

Bobby Farnham.....!

That was a very bad time and score to take that particular frustration penalty. Downie also kept at it, with that monster cross-check after the slash, that could have been called, but wasn't.

In general, I agree that the refs have Downie in their sights, and don't call infractions on him. But he deserved that penalty last night, and if I were HCMJ, I would bench him for a game for destroying any chance we had in a game that was competitive up until that point.

Definitely snapped at the worst possible time.
Problem is teams know they can go after him w complete impunity until he does snap.
If I'm the opposition I game plan with that in mind. Keep going at him with the intent to get him to retaliate late in the game when it counts.

It's still awful reffing. Actually it's unsafe for Downie. Another thing the refs ignore when it comes to him, besides the rule book. Protecting all players.

The player who elbowed Downie was suspended, so it didn't go unpunished.

That is the role Downie chooses to play, he isn't some victim, that type of treatment from other teams and the refs goes with the role. He is credited with drawing the most penalties on the Pens, which is impressive considering his ice time and that he doesn't carry the puck.

Ehh can't agree. Refs job is to keep it safe and fair.
They do neither where Downie is concerned.

That's fair, my position is at some point it takes some self awareness to realize that officials universally punish the 2nd act. Pens fans frequently complain about Letang, Malkin, and Neal for their retaliatory penalties, have to hold Downie to the same standard.

When Downie snapped after the no-call it was obvious no good was going to come out of it. Coaches should have kept him off the ice for at least a few shifts till he calmed down a bit. Pretty clear he was gonna do something stupid if ya leave him out there.

No

Johnston expression on his face looks lost, confused, surprised most of the time. When searching for a new coach, it was mentioned they wanted someone who could make in-game adjustments. Not seeing the in-game adjustments that result in changing the outcome of the game.
