News/views: Blount carries Pats to Super Bowl

I could not agree with you more. The part I do not like is Blount quit on 1 team & has gotten rewarded for it. But, what I have learned about the NFL the past few years is that it usually goes that way for players. Also, this has to be the worst possible Super Bowl match up. Yes, worse than Ravens-49ers.

I think New England could have signed Mel Blount,at age 66, and he'd have 166 yards. For years they have had mostly pedestrian backs and receivers around Brady but they manufacture a 12-4 record with a bye week. Belichick is 1 win away from tying Chuck Noll so get used to "is the the best of all time" coach talking point.

I agree with you 100% and I wish this would be on the front page of every sports page in and around Pittsburgh before the yinzer nation goes berserk.

I completely agree with you Dejan, on that matter even if Blount goes on to win 10 consecutive Super Bowls with the Patriots with a couple of Game MVP awards.
Bottomline, he was NOT needed and NOT wanted in Pittsburgh. I could care less if he went on to Baltimore and helped Baltimore win that WC round game.

Spot on. May Blount fumble on every carry in the SB.

What if is coming in now it's time slap a couple people in the front office & Tomlin for letting go Blount . He supposed to be replacing Bell in the wild card instead picking up a player off the street to start ? WHAT !!!!# * DMX Voice *
guess who's going to the super bowl hmm... it's not the Steelers bingo

Only hindsight to me...same as I felt back then...is that they should of suspended him and then traded him...instead of an outright release.

Let's also remember this was done against the Indy Whimps, I mean Colts. Some guy named Gray ran for 200 yds and 4tds for the Pats against them. I believe thats 11 running tds the Colts have given up in last 3 games. Way to man up Indy

They made the right decision, end of story

I understand that Dejan but,

Blount > Harris, Archer, Tate

The hindsight for me is not having a backup will Bell went down.

I guess it is he screwed up here big time then comes out smelling like a rose in NE. No justice, imo

No additional comment needed re: Blount.

Steelers do need a capable backup for Bell. A Mewelde Moore and/or Isaac Redman type, for example.

Ah you are probably right. The o coordinator wod have probably just split him out and thrown a WR screen to him anyway.

Thanks Dejan...I started to let those thoughts creep in watching Blount run last night. You are 100% dead on ...he wouldn't have been the answer against the Ravens .

The Seekers ended up with a solid season that their fans should be pleased with. And this just gives us another reason to root against the Patriots in the Super Bowl.

Releasing Blount was the right decision.

We didn't miss Bell so much as a runner against the Ravens, but as a blocker and an outlet. Ben obviously didn't trust his other backs as that outlet, since he very nearly ignored them.

Blount would not have provided that outlet, either, but he would have at least been a better blocker. Saying that, he had to go. It was the right choice.

Well written. The only downer for me is that it is the Pats who made the situation work in their favor. Can't stand them.

Thanks Dejan! My thought exactly, only written so much better than I could have done! Glad to see him go, but didn't enjoy watching last night's performance.

Bottom line was the Steelers had no Plan B when Blount was let go...that is 100 percent is on Tomlin and Colbert.
