  1. Dave G says:

We get to see the new goalie!

  2. Biz says:
    -3

I have a bad feeling the Pens will be at 500 after tonight

  3. Sarah says:

No matter how The new G does he will be the most popular kid in town! Kinda like the backup QB lol!

  4. Sarah says:

Apparently Harry is still sitting. Why bring the poor kid up and give him no ice time. Ridiculous.

  5. Karen22 says:

Really need a pick-me-up tonight. C’mon, Pens – make me happy.

    1. Milo Hamilton says:

I’d suggest alcohol but I’m not sure if that’s legal on the internet. ;)

  6. Radio wave says:

Is it correct that the wings are no longer the powerhouse they used to be?

    1. Sarah says:

We’ll….we just made the Flyers look like world beaters so not sure how much it matters lol!

  7. Oshie says:

Playing at a venue in which a bankruptcy judge recently ordered sold and then demolished.

  8. Milo Hamilton says:

Fleury, Scuderi, Dupuis, Kunitz, Adams, Letang, Malkin & Crosby.
    .
The list keeps getting smaller. Those are the only guys left from 2009.

    1. Not coincidentally, all among Penguins’ worst performers vs. Flyers.

      1. Milo Hamilton says:

Yeah, I said to someone today that the level of stink was directly proportional to how much money they make. The stars have to change that situation.

  9. Jim S. says:

Boy, how did we not even get a shot on that 2 on 1? Ugh!

    1. Jim S. says:

Well, the 2nd 2 on 1 was much better!

  10. Oshie says:

    Whooop! Where’s Jandy?!

  11. Jason Baileys says:

Nice 2 on 1 there and finish by Duper!

  12. Oshie says:

OMG, I’ve been saturated with Governor political ads here. Turned on the Pens game on the package and now I’m getting hit from Pennsylvania! I can’t escape!

    1. Milo Hamilton says:

Yes. Please make it stop. If people haven’t decided by now they should just stay home.

    2. Jim S. says:

Who could possibly be swayed by political ads these days? Each one is more outrageous than the last.

    3. Biz says:

At least you probably aren’t getting the somewhat constant phone call ads ;-)

      1. Jim S. says:

“Nope. Haven’t changed my mind since yesterday. Ok, I’ll talk to you again tomorrow.” :-)

      2. Oshie says:

Oh, I’m getting those too Biz. As well as people at the door. They all want me to vote early. I tell each one that : 1. I enjoy the communal aspect to voting on election day and 2. I will vote even if there is a blizzard raging. They apparently never tell their bosses that.

        1. Biz says:

What I really dislike is the auto calls, recordings

        2. Jim S. says:

In IL, they prefer that you don’t show up so they can vote for you. Sometimes multiple times. ;-)

  13. Sarah says:

    Maatta???

  14. Jason Baileys says:

    Maata would not be denied

  15. Milo Hamilton says:

    Olli Mackerel !

  16. Milo Hamilton says:

If nothing else they sure look well rested.

    1. Sarah says:

      They should be!

    2. Arriba Wilver says:

The Governor candidates or the Wings?

      1. Biz says:

Candidates play much dirtier than hockey players

  17. Jim S. says:

Swede Wings but the lead in half.

    1. Jim S. says:

      * cut

  18. Milo Hamilton says:

They’ve talked so much about being a puck possession team. When you watch how they play defensively, you see why they talk so much about being a puck possession team.

  19. DJ says:

Not enough we have Wing screening Greiss. We’ve got Scuds in front of the Wing for a double screen.

    1. DJ says:

Guess when you can’t move someone out of crease better to just join them.

      1. Sarah says:

How many goals this year has Scuds NOT been on the ice for?

        1. DJ says:

Give me a minute. But first tell me how many goals other teams have scored.

        2. Dodkong says:

          15: Anaheim 4, Toronto 2, Dallas 3, Isles 1, Philly 5

        3. Sarah says:

15 really? Good lord. I wonder how that stacks up league wide…

        4. DJ says:

Was gonna guess 12. 15 is crazy.

  20. Jason Baileys says:

How is Adams still getting a sweater dude is worthless

    1. Might be less than that.

      1. Jason Baileys says:

Just brings nothing now and forost of last year

    2. Sarah says:

He has pictures of somebody I swear lol!

    3. Jim S. says:

      Even under a new administration.

  21. Jim S. says:

    Kuni!

  22. Jason Baileys says:

    Hornqvist driving the net

  23. Jim S. says:

Great puck movement. So close to #4 there. LeTang whiffed on a couple good chances.

    1. Jason Baileys says:

Just look like a different team. Making that 1st pass out of he zone quickly tonight and moving forward with numbers

      1. Jim S. says:

Yeah, what a difference a day makes sometimes.

  24. Jim S. says:

    Next goal looms very large.

  25. DJ says:

Seems like only 8 or 9 posting tonight. Cozy.
    .
Jim, you bring matches for the fire? I’ve got rolled up gubernatorial ads for kindling.

    1. Jim S. says:

They’ve been brutal in IL as well, DJ.

      1. DJ says:

And 2 more weeks of it. Crushing.

  26. Dom says:

Good job by Sid to draw that penalty.

  27. Jason Baileys says:

Goal on pp would be huge

  28. Milo Hamilton says:

Jimmy Howard has been great tonight. Pens have had a lot of high quality chances.

  29. DJ says:

One thing clear. Greiss > Fleury with stick.

    1. Jim S. says:

Was about to say the same thing – although, sadly, that could be said about just about any other G.

      1. DJ says:

Always been baffling. Anytime he leaves net he tenses up. And it only compounds problem. Fish out of water.

    2. Jason Baileys says:

He looks in control and no panic about him. I like him.

  30. Jason Baileys says:

    That’s 40 good minutes need 20 more.

  31. Biz says:

Its tough to follow the game on ESPN.com, looks like the Pens are up by two at the end of 2.

I hope they can close this one

    1. Jim S. says:

      Yep, 3-1.

  32. Wild Bill says:

Gonna keep watching other stuff, cause every time back, our lead is bigger. Not that I’m superstitious or anything.

  33. Sarah says:

    Testing…

  34. Sarah says:

    That was odd.
Anyway….wondering about Crosby’s faceoff nbrs….not sure his wrist is right….

    1. Wild Bill says:

      Please, not again.

    2. Milo Hamilton says:

      6 of 11.

    3. Milo Hamilton says:

Your point is well taken. He’s looking like playoffs Sid the last 2 nights.

  35. Jason Baileys says:

    Dumb penalty by sid

    1. About as stupid and selfish a penalty as you’ll ever see a captain take.

    2. Milo Hamilton says:

      Dare I say Geno-esque.

  36. Jim S. says:

I’m impressed with the composure of Greiss. Just calmly goes about his business. Pucks slides through the crease & he coolly flicks it away.

  37. Jason Baileys says:

Greiss looking like he wants #1 star.

  38. Oshie says:

Sarah called it. Backup Quarterback Syndrome. Haha!

    1. Sarah says:

      He’s having a nice game.
I fear there is a reason he’s 28 and has played 9 of the last 10 yrs in Germany, the E or the A however.

But he’s far better than Zatkoff.

  39. Jim S. says:

I’m sure Detroit will give up a PP goal at some point this year. Right? Right?

  40. Milo Hamilton says:

If things go south the last 11 minutes, remember that power play. Or lack thereof.

    1. DJ says:

Tocchet pulled #1 PP because trying to thread passes into a mouse hole.

      1. DJ says:

The culprit? None other than man with C.

  41. Jason Baileys says:

I’ve bashed Martin pretty hard, I think he’s playing a pretty good game tonight

  42. camchuck says:

    Griess is a wall….

    1. Milo Hamilton says:

We shall call him – The Berlin Wall.

      1. Milo Hamilton says:

        Or not.

  43. Sarah says:

Pretty deep in the net there….hmm.
    Nice shot tho.

  44. Jason Baileys says:

    Unreal

  45. Jim S. says:

Well, that was ridiculous. Happening a bit too often. We don’t score with open net chances & they score twice.

  46. Jason Baileys says:

We’ll the Pens played 57 good minutes

  47. DJ says:

Going for free points instead of lock down. Never learn.

    1. Wild Bill says:

Dupes trying to take something that wasn’t there, and off they went.

  48. Sarah says:

Pathetic weak attempt by Duper there.
    Welcome to the Pens, Greiss…..

  49. Milo Hamilton says:

I go back to that power play they got with 13 minutes left. Not only did they not score they lost momentum.

  50. Milo Hamilton says:

I suggest the captain wake up.

  51. Jim S. says:

Has LeTang caught a pass cleanly in the offensive zone all night?

  52. Sarah says:

OMG shoot it Letang you moron

  53. Oshie says:

    Wow.

  54. Milo Hamilton says:

What a complete & utter bleeping disaster that was.

  55. Dodkong says:

Can we change the team name from Penguins to Tin Men?

    1. Gene Z says:

      Tin Men? Try CHOKERS.

  56. DJ says:

Letang left alone in front of net?
    .
Hey, why shoot when you can pass to right circle.

    1. DJ says:

Guess he didn’t want to give away his shootout move.

  57. Poz says:

Apparently the Steelers aren’t the only Pittsburgh team that cannot close out a game. Pitiful.

  58. Wild Bill says:

Most of the critical errors I saw were from the guys who’ve played for us the longest. Old habits dying hard.

    1. Milo Hamilton says:

      Astute observation.

    2. DJ says:

Looking to pad stats over the W.

  59. Bman says:
    -3

SAME OLD PENS. New system my a**

  60. Jason Baileys says:

Wonder what DK will write about?

    1. I’m not in Detroit.

      1. DJ says:

        Lucky you.

  61. Adam says:

Really hope this is the last game I see Paul Martin in a Penguins sweater. How he managed to be +5 is a mystery, but it says alot about the relevence of +/- stats.

Liked the line of Malkin/Comeau/Dupuis. I think Malkin/Comeau/Bennett could be good when BB returns.

  62. emmalinesadie says:

To paraphrase an old head coach, they look “soff”. Discouraging going back to those old bad habits.

  63. DJ says:

They should just forfeit the point for those last 3 minutes and OT.
    .
    Utterly pathetic.

  64. Sarah says:

I would be perfectly happy if they traded Letang and Martin tomorrow and sent Scuderi to Wheeling.

This team needs to be shaken up arse first.

    1. DJ says:

In contrast, could you even imagine Shea Weber or Drew Doughty unimpeded and approaching slot passing to circle?
      .
There’d be rubber skid marks on the goalie mask.

  65. Rock says:

What the hell is going on out there?
    (Vince Lombardi voice)

  66. Biz says:

    I said 500

    Its early

  67. Adam says:

Look when BB returns the team will be stronger as he’ll bump Adams to the pressbox. Then the lines could be Sid/Kunitz/Hornqvist, Malkin/Bennett/Comeau, Sutter/Spaling/Dupuis, Goc/Sill/Downie. 3 competent lines and a 4th line of grinders/agitators/energy.

    1. If. That’s always an if, Adam. :)

  68. Jim S. says:

    Serious lack of leadership.

    1. Robsdaddy says:

I’ve said for years that it was curious (at least) that every year @ the deadline Shero (love him or hate him) was ALWAYS looking for “leadership” or guys that are “good in the room”. What does that say about your captain that your GM is continually looking to add leadership?

  69. WVStarship says:

Been watching hockey since the early 60s; the last 3 minutes + OT was quite possibly the worst exhibition of awfulness I have ever seen on the ice. If this is what the new coach/management have to offer they can leave Pittsburgh tonight along with Martin, Letang and Scuderi.

    1. DJ says:

Coach? Management? How about the players? Starting with guys who have 10 years or more in the league.
      .
ALL of it on players tonight.

      1. 101 percent.

    2. Jay Baileys says:

Not sure I blame the coach for this or the goalie. MJ looked a little pissed in his post game presser. These guys need to play for 60 minutes, not 10 like last night and not 55 like tonight.

  70. DJ says:

Hopefully guys like Maatta, Depres, Pouliot and Harrington will all be here soon to lead the vets to winning hockey.
    .
    Someone’s gotta do it.

    1. Jay Baileys says:

Yea might help if the guy with the C starts too. Taking dumb penalties and disappearing against your rival is not leadership.

  71. frankgrocks says:
    -1

Why can’t Geno give real effort? I lose more respect for him each and every year. He is just collecting a paycheck.

  72. Heisenburgh says:

Not sure how anyone could blame the coaching staff being that its 6 games into a season that followed major system/roster changes.

The franchise hit the reset button and I think Johnson and co. deserve the benefit of some time to make their mark.

  73. Mizery says:

That was so disappointing. Penguins were just waiting for something bad to happen……and it did!!

  74. Radio wave says:

Went to bed and they were winning 3-1. Can’t believe they lost. But trend around the league is to pull the goalie earlier than in thepast.

  75. Bridge says:

Malkin for Weber straight up and Geno can play with his buddy Neal (who had a hat trick last night BTW).

  76. king of rock says:

    older players are gassed

Kunitz, Martin just have less pep at the end

not surprising really, but need more YOUTH

  77. Scott in Orlando says:

The Penguins are, and have been, the most under performing group of “SuperStars” I’ve witnessed in the NHL. While 87 is great, he’s not a leader. Malkin is a headcase who wants autonomy to do what he likes. Johnston’s expressions last night were priceless. He looked shell shocked

    1. supernatural187 says:

If you want to win your fantasy team pick Crosby – if you want to win Stanley Cups pick Toews or Kane .. Sid makes some great plays but turns the puck over way to much for a “superstar”

    2. jimbo831 says:

“Johnston’s expressions last night were priceless. He looked shell shocked”

I agree, but I found it funny on some level. That was like his moment of realizing what fans have been dealing with for the last five seasons.

  78. William Maloni says:

I thought Greiss played well for 57 minutes.

Before the Pens can get through the Flyers, they need to figure out a way to get through the third period of their games

Mike Johnston had the “Mike Tomlin, what was that they did to us” look on his face.

  79. supernatural187 says:

WTF happened – I took my father to the bathroom with 3 minutes left and by the time I got him out of his wheelchair and back in bed it was 3-3 .. Did they put Fleury in the last 3 minutes

  80. Florida Steeler says:

The Pens will win when they hire Mike Babcock as coach and not until then.
