And now, one from the forgotten grooveyard of favorites – today the Pirates did nothing.

I was a little angry so I put in some Sinatra to calm me down – September of My Years. It only served to remind me that I’m old.

    Now I’m depressed.

    1. toochca says:

Pedro’s is starting!! That should make you feel better!!

    2. The Gunner says:

It’s the same old story with the BMTIB, Milo

    3. toochca says:

They did claim a pitcher off waivers from the White Sox!!

  2. stuart66 says:

I was kind of rooting for Bonifacio and/or the A’s shortstop. It doesn’t say much for Chase d’A et al at Indy that Morel and Martinez are on the 25-man.
Now it’s time to switch Bell to First, just in case he might be ready next year after the usual super-2 nonsense. Stu

    1. toochca says:

Wouldn’t the Arizona Fall League or Winterball be a better place to make a position switch? Bell was just promoted and has enough things to worry about right now just making that switch.

      1. stuart66 says:

I wouldn’t consider it a “worry” to learn the best position to get him to the majors as quick as possible. I hope I’m wrong, but I don’t think our current roster has us in contention by the next ” “deadline”.

        Stu

  3. Eric Bowser says:

    What an impressive bullpen:
Mark Melancon, Tony Watson, Jared Hughes, Justin Wilson, Jeanmar Gomez, Ernesto Frieri, and Stolmy Pimentel.

    #AllIn

    1. stuart66 says:

Not as impressive as the bench Eric.

      Stuart

      1. Eric Bowser says:

I’m more than happy with Harrison as the super utility and Snider is doing well as pinch-hitter but I’m not thrilled with Stewart, Sanchez/Davis, Morel, or Martinez.

Can’t keep going cheap with depth.

      2. Karen22 says:

The bench right now is a disaster.

  4. JMB says:

at least the other teams in our division didnt get Lester or Price.

  5. Biz says:

For all this time, we’ve heard that minor league talent rules, now today, as Dejan pointed out a couple of times, the trading chip was major league players with some control. So trade Pedro? If JHay gets hit with a fastball in the wrong place or pulls a hammy doing his magic

    1. Biz says:

Houdini on the bases, who’s at third?

  6. stuart66 says:

DK, I’ thinking about writing a book on the Pirate’s 2014 season to be published in September. What do you think of my probable title “Three bricks shy of a load”?

    Stu

  7. Biz says:

Marte will be a bigger chip as he grows

    1. pattonbb says:

The same was said about Tabata. And I like Marte. A lot actually. I just don’t think he’ll be much more than what he already is.

  8. Biz says:

Let it be said, on the 8th or 9th day of this blog, it got broken by too much conversation. ;-)

    1. Eric Bowser says:

      It broke?

      1. stuart66 says:

Crashed big time at the deadline.

        Stuart

    2. Biz says:

As far as the website, down for 2 hours, lets see, 1.50 for 30 days, 24 hours in a day, Dejan you owe us all 2 cents ;-). My 2 cents, not easy at all, starting this place ;-) But its started, so lets go. And Lets Go Bucs

    1. Biz says:

      Thanks, JAL

    2. stuart66 says:

Thanks Joe. Sure would like to see Dejan arrange an exception to the character limit for your links. Off to a good start though.

      Stuart

      1. JAL says:

Dejan and I have agreed to do 3 links for now. I pick what I think are the best 3. Number 2 never showed up this morning, was a good piece arguing that the July 31 trade deadline makes no sense today.

  11. Oshie says:

I wish JRay would join the clubhouse. Always gives good in game info, and maybe he is at tonight’s game.

  12. toochca says:

Matt Cain and the Giants are weighing whether the righty will undergo a procedure on his right elbow to clean up bone chips and other debris, reports Andrew Baggarly of CSNBayArea.com. Tommy John surgery is not on the table.

  13. Bill Born says:

Cliff Lee just walked off the mound hold his elbow.
Reading lips saw him say I heard it pop.

    1. toochca says:

Tyler Skaggs of the Angels just left the game. He pointed to his forearm.

      1. DJ says:

If Burnett pitches an inning his next start and then points to his groin we’ll all know something’s up.

  14. radio wave says:

Feels like like a trap series.

    1. Tom P. says:

You might be right, but do think the Bucs learned their lesson last weekend in Colorado?

  15. Oshie says:

Just was reading that GM for Toronto is making what probably is an unscheduled trip to Houston to talk to team about the club’s conspicuous inactivity today. Players are said to be grumbling. Wonder if there is any grumbling with the Buccos ?

    1. toochca says:

I don’t doubt there wasn’t/isn’t some grumblings. Weren’t some of them fairly vocal recently about the lack of activity by the GM?

    2. JMB says:

      Human nature is to grumble

      1. Oshie says:

        True that, JMB.

  16. Milo Hamilton says:

    Ru$$ell Martin.

    1. theplanisworking says:

If they don’t re-sign him, the C position looks bad.

      1. Lad 9 says:

Plan! Good evening my friend. I must disagree with you ire the C position if they don’t resign Martin. They will have to improve quite a bit to get up to bad if they don’t sign him. It will be Chernobyl-esque.

      2. theplanisworking says:

Lad, that is radioactively funny !!!

And, just for your pleasure, I bought another New Castle basketball mug today. Preparing for the hot chocolate season.

        :D

      3. Biz says:

Chernobyl ?? It happened due to not following procedures. NH has procedure for wiping his butt

      4. Lad 9 says:

Biz I forgot that you have much experience in preventing a Chernobyl type situation. I of course defer to your expertise in that area. :).

      5. Biz says:

No problem Lad, It just rang a bell

  17. Martin must have read DK’s column this morning.

    1. theplanisworking says:

Reverend, maybe he DID read it, and that is why the site crashed.

      Maybe.

      1. :D
We do have a couple catchers in the development process, but 2 or 3 years off.

  18. pattonbb says:

If they don’t re-sign Martin, we can look forward to another Huntington “we were close, we were aggressive, but at end of the day, we felt the right re-sign was no re-sign” speeches. Those don’t ever get old.

    1. AJS says:

No cajones. Hes scared to death that any move for prospects will result in the acquisition being a bust and the prospects all being studs.

  19. Milo Hamilton says:

    “The Fight Doctor” Jordan Pacheco.

  20. Milo Hamilton says:

You’re 2 feet from the play. How do you miss that ?

    1. Wild Bill says:

      By sheer incompetence.

  21. Wild Bill says:

Locke rises to the moment and fills in the hole he dug for himself.

  22. Rock says:

    Some Houdini work from Locke…

  23. Rock says:

So who are the internal candidates that could bolster the bullpen? I know Worley is one but who at AAA?

  24. theplanisworking says:

Quote about Beane and Dombrowski :

“I tip my hat to Billy Beane. He’s got a lot of guts to do what he did, and the same with Dave Dombrowski. You can’t be scared if you’re trying to win, and he’s never scared. You utilize your scouting. You utilize your instincts. ”

    Yes. Yes.

  25. Karen22 says:

OMG – 1st ground ball to Pedro and he throws it in the dirt! Tie game! MADNESS!

    1. Lad 9 says:

Not a great throw, but the first baseman has to make that play. I would expect a high school 1B to come up with that.

      1. scott says:

Well he is expecting the ball to be ten feet over his head, so he did the best he could

    2. theplanisworking says:

      +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

      1. Karen22 says:

        Hey, plan! :)

      2. theplanisworking says:

Had to give you the pluses on the new blog to make you feel welcome. :)

  26. scott says:

    did that really just happen?

  27. pattonbb says:

    Pathetic.

  28. scott says:

seriously…why is he playing? Can’t hit, can’t field….pretty there’s a dude in that dugout that can play third other than the greatest momentum killer in history of baseball (not really)

  29. Biz says:

Not a Pedro error at all, lighten up, lunatics

    1. scott says:

Put yourself in the first baseman’s place. It must be like playing dodge ball when Pedro throws over there…there’s a thirty foot range where the ball can go now, lol

    2. Lad 9 says:

Tough crowd Biz. I am defending him and even I think his best spot at present is DH!

      1. Biz says:

Yup, but Ike closed his glove too early, could of and should of snatched that no problem

      2. hockeymonster says:

        It’s NH’s fault. :)

  30. Lad 9 says:

Neil! Pleasure watching him this year.

  31. hockeymonster says:

Who’s the Mike Keenan version of baseball? He and Pedro are going to have to have a pow wow.

    1. hockeymonster says:

      It worked! :)

  32. Smitty55 says:

man,I feel for Pedro. Having played, there’s no feeling like letting your teammates down….over…and over…and etc.

  33. AJS says:

Someone explain why Locke even started the 6th. Hes been having everything hit hard for the last three innings.

  34. Smitty55 says:

ty ajs wonderingn about that too

  35. Scott says:

guess they gave them the ‘neighborhood’ play there…

  36. Scott says:

spotting a team 2 free runs plus giving up 3 HRsisn’t getting the job done either.

  37. Scott says:

there has got to be better arms in the system to run out there every 5th day besides Locke.
