  1. Radio wave says:

Off to the yard to see if EV can do it again. And to think he looked like a dumster dive in st.

  2. Chris Matusic says:

Bucs lineup (no Marte, Lambo at 1B):

    JHay 3b
    Snider lf
    Cutch cf
    Walker 2b
    Martin c
    Lambo 1b
    Mercer ss
    Polanco rf
    EV p

Also, Morton will start Tuesday vs. the Red Sox, Worley to the bullpen.

    1. JAL says:

      Cubs:

      Arismendy Alcantara CF
      Javier Baez SS
      Chris Coghlan LF
      Luis Valbuena 3B
      Chris Valaika 2B
      Mike Olt 1B
      Matt Szczur RF
      John Baker C
      Jacob Turner RHP

    2. Arriba Wilver says:

On Morton and Worley I would reverse that.

      1. Chris Matusic says:
        -1

I’m ok with it. Worley at this stage is a question mark. Cholly has better upside. Short leash no matter what.

      2. Ghost says:

Definitely with AW. Worley has mostly pitched well this year while Morton has been the been the big question mark his entire career. His hip isn’t helping — might even end his career. Right now, he’s been out of it for too long and certainly can’t be depended on to start.

      3. Biz says:

        AW please check your email

      4. Arriba Wilver says:

Right, Ghost. No one’s said his injury has healed. I don’t get it.

        Biz—responded.

  3. Patrick(ri) says:

We got lucky yesterday. Time to make our own luck. On less obvious points: it looks like CH has lost confidence in both Worley and Ike?

  4. Patrick(ri) says:

Hey, it looks like this is going to be a “smart” day for the Pirate defense!

    1. Patrick(ri) says:

      On the other hand . . .

  5. Jim S. says:

This is ridiculous, Volquez. Please don’t five the game away.

    1. Jim S. says:

Cubs TV announcers are brutal. Jim DeShaies knows very little about the Pirates, but it doesn’t stop him from going on and on about a whole range of things. MLB needs to fix their rules about protecting home markets. I pay for Extra Innings Pkg & get stuck w these guys 19x.

      1. Patrick(ri) says:

At least you can watch the game w/o endless crowd/sign shots.

      2. Jim S. says:

Oh, we get that too. They pan around the stadium during every break and comment on all the Cubs fans in attendance. If there aren’t many, we see the same ones over & over.

      3. Patrick(ri) says:

I used to ignore them, sort of like eye floaters. This year it seems they have gone crazy, to the point we are looking at some stupid sign, or Robbie doing his human interest stuff even during live action. I like kids, but show some moderation, Root.

    2. We need to win these games against bottom feeders and pitchers with ERA’s close to 6. Can’t afford losses to the Cubs.

  6. Patrick(ri) says:

Wow. I think I’ll watch the Patriots. Defense just as sloppy, but they have some offense.

  7. Jim S. says:

This is a lazy display of baseball by a team that can’t afford it. Very disappointing. Need to pick it up right away.

  8. Patrick(ri) says:

Do these guys party all night on Saturdays? The Sunday W/L record is just unbelievable. O for May, O for August and not much better in other months.

    1. Jim S. says:

You’re right, Patrick. We got a ball hit in a perfect spot there to get out of trouble. It’s time they start hitting this kid.

      1. Patrick(ri) says:

I fact checked myself. We won one in May, and are above 500 in combined April, June & July. Still must be one of the worst records .

  9. Jim S. says:

    Triple play!!

    1. Patrick(ri) says:

      A spark?

      1. Jim S. says:

Cutch tried to keep the momentum going but his bullet hung up for the RF. Then, Neil did keep the momentum going.

    2. Chris Matusic says:

Trip-trip-triple play!!! Now I’ve seen it all.

  10. casper in a-town says:

Triple play and a stand up inside the park home run within a span of a few days. Awesome.

  11. HOF Coach says:

I am at the game and just witnessed the FIRST Triple Play in PNC Park history and now, Walker’s 20th HR, most for a second baseman in Pirates’ history!! Comeback time…

    1. HOF Coach says:

      Comeback time, indeed!

  12. Dejan Kovacevic says:

Some triple-play notes: First for Pirates since April 12, 2009 at Cincinnati. Last one in Pittsburgh: Aug. 10, 1993, vs. Cardinals. Last true around-the-horn variety: July 23, 1979, that one going Madlock to Garner to Stargell.

  13. Jim S. says:

Volquez should not be batting again unless the score changes for the good before he comes to the plate. Or, if it is 2 out & none on base.

  14. Jim S. says:

    Crush one, GP!

  15. Jim S. says:

Pinch hit right here. Go for the big inning. Nope, of course not.

    1. Arriba Wilver says:

      Worked out.

      1. Jim S. says:

        Only out of the inning.

      2. Jim S. says:

If Volquez gives them 2 more solid innings, AW, it will definitely have worked out. But, he has not pitched all that well IMO. If we plate a couple more here, hopefully it won’t matter. Most mgrs do what Clint did. I just don’t agree w them.

      3. Jim S. says:

& I’m really only talking about pinch hitting there because it’s a Sept pennant race game. I think you have to manage differently right now.

    2. Arriba Wilver says:
      -1

It was a sacrifice on a perfect bunt by a pitcher with a .022 average. You have to be joking complaining.

      1. Jim S. says:

I’m not joking. He’s a terrible hitter. Saying he came through is after the fact. You didn’t know he’d come through because usually he doesn’t.

      2. Arriba Wilver says:
        -1

You were still complaining after he successfully bunted, Jim, by saying he had made the only out. To each their own.
        .
Hard to complain about a 6 run inning.
        .
Eddy threw 9 pitches( in the 4th and 8 in the 5th. And he’s been our best pitcher this year.

      3. Jim S. says:

AW: I said before the inning he shouldn’t bat if we have runners on base.

      4. Arriba Wilver says:

What did saying he made the only out with the successful sacrifice mean? Just factual?

      5. Arriba Wilver says:

That’s what I was responding to, Jim.

      6. Jim S. says:

I said that because you said it worked out. I thought it was a matter of interpretation at that point as to whether it worked out because a PH might have gotten a hit & I don’t like giving outs away. But, it is true that after we scored all the runs it worked out fine.

  16. Chris Matusic says:

JHay team MVP. Bucs are alive!!!

    1. Jim S. says:

Even when he has a few bad at bats in a row, he just always comes through when they need it.

    2. Arriba Wilver says:

      Agree.

  17. Patrick(ri) says:

Break the Sunday/getaway curse, for sure?

  18. Brandie says:

Bummed that I am seed the triple play! Snider with a double! Team doesn’t say die!

    1. Barb says:

Don’t feel bad Brandie I didn’t see it either. Bummer!

      1. Brandie says:

Bodacious…Our boys are in the lead. And there’s your silver lining!

      2. RalphM says:

        Here you go! http://m.mlb.com/video/v36251427/chcpit-harrison-tags-third-starts-a-triple-play/?cid=mlb

      3. Brandie says:

Got chills! Thanks Wreck It Ralph!

  19. Jim S. says:

Ump just cost us 1 -2 runs.

    1. Brandie says:

      FIRE HIM!!

    2. Dejan Kovacevic says:

No, he didn’t. That’s unfair. Nowhere for Ted Barrett to go on a crazy hop like that. Umps and refs are part of the field in any sport.

      1. Jim S. says:

I didn’t say he did it on purpose. If it doesn’t hit him it clears the bases.

      2. Jim S. says:

Sorry. I worded it incorrectly. It was an unfortunate bounce that hit the ump & cost us runs.

  20. Last I checked in, it was 3-0 Chubs. I like this score better. I should take more time off, like plansky always says.

    1. Wild Bill says:

Right ther with ya, Lucky. Took a nap in my recliner and woke up to find out I missed a lot from down, 3 – 1. Lol.

  21. Patrick(ri) says:

Early kudos to the team for the comeback. Looked like the wheels were coming off and they all seemed to get it together.

    1. Jim S. says:

You called it when you said the triple play might be a spark, Patrick. Looked like they were in a daze before that. Immediately after that, they turned things around.

      1. Patrick(ri) says:

Wishes can come true. Now, can the spark plug pad his batting lead?

      2. Jim S. says:

        Stung it.

  22. Brian D says:

    Why not rest Watson?

  23. Arriba Wilver says:

It’s a 9 inning game. (You can quote me).

  24. I like this guy’s ERA, too. 13.50

  25. Patrick(ri) says:

Marte should check EBay for Barry’s body armor.

  26. Jim S. says:

Great move to get Starling an at bat.

    1. Jim S. says:

He whiffed, but it keeps him from sitting an extra day. The quicker you can get an injured guy back the better the chances of keeping his hitting stroke, rhythm, etc. IMO.

  27. Patrick(ri) says:

Got curios when I saw Melancon has itched 66 innings. Mike Marshall pitched 208 innings in 1974 – all in relief.

  28. Tom P. says:

Raise it. Nice comeback. Let’s see if the Rangers can hold on.

    1. Tom P. says:

All of a sudden, Rangers up 6-0, bottom 5. My guess is that the Braves don’t have the offense to come back.

  29. Arriba Wilver says:

First MLB game Lambo starts at 1B he’s involved in a triple play. Probably first player with the number 57 involved in one too. ;-)
